[Laughter] [Music] you [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] lavita puruka joined the rest of the gambian community minute killing silence the gambia bilal arabic brad bilal boarding school rabbi school [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign because and non gambian new monkey politics [Music] in their own rights a few questions within these first 20 minutes can you please introduce yourself and tell the government people to malamui and what do you do for the living okay right in my thing is if we are talking to the gambian people the people in gambia we better speak to the gambian language yeah the apple guy on the street or industry can just understand what we are what we say yeah and tell them anyway um nearly 40 years or so we all started hotel together we went through a lot from zero to wherever we are now so please so then yeah i started my hotel career in gambia for many years over a decade then travel to europe then study tourism hospitality being a hotel manager and yeah until now i'm just a consultant now thank you very much consultant speaking um uh mr abubakar um we so far from anyway um [Music] you can travel to the gambia okay yeah but what is happening is that um uh foreign but families you know they cannot travel to granby without making sure that these children have cpr even the children yeah the children because just one example i was supposed to go um day before yesterday i went to the airport the mild one so but they said they should because in europe here you have to be above 12 12 years old but gambia unfortunately they are asking any time to have cpr and that will restrict families from going to gambia so gambia will lose five minutes from coming there even though a tourism yeah families you want to know that yet because it's quite expensive so you buy your ticket at the same time you pay for this for the kids here in england the kids are uh contracted to coronavirus so that's why imam thank you so ganbanyan tagging in london they have to update they should update themselves with the world health organizational information and so on gamba seems to be lacking behind so this being the case they will lose tourists this year families will not come to come there because right now antenna flight player castle every tonight is costing me another 600 pounds to be able to go to gambia so i will still go you know but this is costing me so much money it might affect tourism as well it will it will it will affect tourism families will not come there because neither neither if there are gambia at the same time you have to pay one thousand dollars the airport fee whatever they tax today i don't understand gambia is the only airport in the world i don't know but i mean you can correct me if i'm wrong wherever if you land you have to pay a fee extra fee to the to the authorities there and when you are leaving you have to pay a fee for using the airport so so this is really putting off the tourists all right um i'll let you there what i wanted to know from mr jaban is mr yabang you were previously a manager in the gambia what may be gambian um tourism it is i was not a manager in only of any of the hotels just a supervisor [Laughter] i was not working as a manager in any of the hotels just a supervisor position that i've stopped and then my management uh position started in london in england in england okay uh for climb up for past 14 years anyway [Music] the last hotel around there was bibi hotel in those days i was small but after encounter former hotel indoor sister those ones are still there operating yesterday in dolby but uh tourism endorsed this minika management we don't know too much about them but um that we are doing very good job even though we can dybala because for example [Music] uh this other small business is so like okay and as a result gambia like tourist marketing memphis everyone they come back because in in in the tourism industry within the hotels they don't need to go out in the philippines you have the advantages and the disadvantages okay nico inclusive are dependent torres adobe all inclusivity are favorable because of cultural amounts different a travel agency may be in that particular country either in europe or anywhere welcoming wealthy new malia from their brussels family academy example [Music] foreign the people's expectation is so high and is diverse foreign affirmative just want to enjoy the sun on the on the beach never have anticipated because of the food so asif has the atari so authorization m the average person me and commander from bada foreign saturday and above all ming gyaryat have been on security intellectual security today and tourism security committee reform you can't remember tourism to nyambata gambia it took so many years for them to destroy it now they are all just talking they talk i'm not doing the work work the work but maybe yeah i think i'm back so it will take more years 80s and 70s echo for plain sabbath tragedy former government i mean today in sabah i was so happy but kevin happened happiness foreign with the two operators of course i flew with them anyway exactly observing [Music] there is no security mobile office and some wall only three meters high if you got phone number because of fear yeah so nothing can be seen apart from the tourists in the former city national foreign hotel and this was at a gambia hotel um in security development we have nothing about ten guests well they can be energy my name is eight of them security guard oh welcome back my friend welcome back so nealy and welcome back listen to it repeatedly and they're fine falling around two times three times four times young gambia they have something in the in there in there an old scene in gambia when i was there apart from this smiling coast we said that if you come to gambia and when you're going back they ask you at the airport are you coming back again you say no they will pay you money that's just a saying because the country was nice before so sometimes being foreign put in a bangkok near me oh how are you doing now is this your first time yeah this is my foster house the country very like me can be a sign in tourism exactly so it's they are repeated the young people you have to target customers you want me because you could have a vulnerable eater okay yeah so all young people eat it because he's going to pay a lot of money just for gambia okay a man like a man like myself before i paid 800 to come to gambia for a month why should i not pay 300 to go to mallorca i would enjoy my okay it's nearly the same weather no hustle hustle free but i can't really get in can you in the tv or any of the social media about tourism there can be more the market that this has been an old saying for since i don't know 30 years ago hundreds hundreds of years exactly so one day i went to tourism department in a sense and no entitlement um in london next to the iranian embassy i went inside there then i told the lady let me use your toilet he said on the ground when i went on the ground boom what did i found there tourism office in the cellar and that's what came when i found one and do most of our stories in the volume only want to follow foreign you know but by then i was a manager i was uh five years into my managership in the hotel and then we were about to open a new hotel in the windsor where you have the windsor council opposite yeah i know young girl not invited invite i'm part of the team there is someone saying hi to you lamin i think islam and sisi and he said i should tell you hi do do sonko also well anyway those who want to say hi to lamin uh allow him to finish then later we would we would um a very important topic yeah just to have that atmosphere i told you how to attract other people because ninga tourism is a diverse story yeah intelligence foreign [Music] okay um thank you very much bamba yeah in topic of summoner important tobacco okay um bamba at the moment we need first of all we have to resell gambia we have to rebrand gambia now we have surpassed those kind of uh where those age are gone because near dubai uh now for the last time competition is all over the world everywhere so for the gambia yet tourism by advertising gambia no culture very very important you know yeah i remember the last time festival tourism uh he is mr p a lot of gambians know him mr p you are live on kibaro um we want to ask you what are your your your experiences in tourism sorry what experiences do you have in terms of uh you're taking tourists to the gambia and uh what what have changed can you help us we are we are on a final discussion here okay right okay um well good evening to everybody assalamu alaikum um wow i'm a media professional based here in london okay i am a gambian i live here in london i'm a broadcaster radio presenter voice over and have worked extensively in the area of media i'm an ex-bbc presenter gentlemen can you hear him yeah i've actually worked in gambia a few times covering the roots festival and promoting the great aspects of our country to people here you hanging around the board so um i very much have uh enjoyed roots festivals that have happened over the last few years it's been it's been fantastic it's been brilliant um i'm just disappointed that we no longer have we haven't done good okay we had this kobe uh uh pallava that's happened in the last year or so but but prior to that um i was expecting us to to have roots in uh 2018 it didn't happen sadly and um i think the more of the world need to know about the the variety of things that gambia has to offer especially in the area of our culture and of our tourism as well yeah and it's sad i think that we can't do the roots festival and definitely um there is awesome talent awesome talent in gambia and it needs to be realized it needs to be nurtured and it needs to be exposed and i'm very much interested in in bringing people from other countries to is it an experienced gambia for themselves so they can enjoy um our culture our country and get a good taste of gambia and in doing so it will actually serve as assisting and developing the economy although i don't think it should rely depend upon tourism as a income for the country i think it is a very good secondary or tertiary income that will help many people in gambia uh with making a living it's something important and it needs looked at and sadly i think it's been ignored uh for some time as well as the other uh infrastructural issues that gambia has so what uh what advice would you have for the current government and the incoming government in terms of investments in in tourism um what would you advise them all right this is the first bit of your question sorry to repeat that please what advice would you give the current government and an incoming government if we would have any uh in terms of investment in tourism what would you want them to do differently and they are doing now that could post tourism okay um it's a good question and what i would say is it's just not as simple as um throwing money especially money you don't have at a problem uh that tends to happen i see it happening all the time here in the west with companies uh with institutions even with governments they just throw money at problems no you need to consult and speak with the people that know the people that have the experience and the knowledge of how to actually develop that aspect of your economy um so the existing government um i haven't really seen a great deal of um developments in any area in gambia to be honest with you over the last few years and that is what what i am concerned about and what i see to be lacking um in gambia so the real changes that need to take place and how i would um advise a change in government is to speak with the people that are active and that know and that are able to actually get something get something actually done to bring about those changes to to to train and work with the people the companies that can uh create a sponsorship that can create awareness that you know the media and i'm not just talking about newspapers i'm talking about all aspects of the media that need to be um addressed and that need to be involved in this whole transformation of the tourism aspect there are people in gambia uh one person comes to mind immediate immediately is juliette ryan she's done a lot of work a lot of great positive work you know she's been living there for the last two three years and you know people like her need to be consulted with people like her need to be involved brought on board and spoken to regards the steering and direction especially as she spent you know most of her uh uh her life here in the uk she spent a lot of time here in the uk she understands how things work and these are the people that need to be um involved at some level when it comes to uh the whole tourism aspect marketing and again sorry i i said are you talking about in terms of marketing and um okay yeah because i i i have my own marketing company here i do marketing and advertising and you know this is something that needs to be utilized you know people that can actually advertise that can market that can put gambia on the map yeah these are the people that need to be engaged to get things done thank you very much uh mr usability there's awesome potential okay yeah i was going to say uh we have just uh two more minutes left on this program what i will do mister uh is i would call you then we would have to come back here again spend one almost three hours with these experts and then you will get to know each other on the screen see each other and then we would see how best we can help our country the gambia on that note i wish to thank you very much for taking your time despite you were very busy you did say to me that you would call on and contribute thank you very much you're welcome and thank you for having me on your show thank you thank you very much um thank you sir thank you thank you thank you all right um i'm just once again going to appeal to the government or an incoming government to try and uh focus on tourism let them not neglect it it's a it's a it's a sector that employs so many gambians the youth especially and uh it is the boarding from the government you know um in terms of employment and many many other areas so they should not neglect tourism and that they should preserve our environment let them not just because recently um i understand that you know even the the bad working sanctuary behind palmarema has been sold so things like this they should be careful and think of the future let them not destroy our industry and um you know they need to revive our culture as well our culture is what the tourists are coming for they want to see they can be as a cultural cultural a different culture and that they want to they want to familiarize themselves with this so the government they really need to put experts there that will understand this to run that department you know this is the problem i think either they know it they ignore it or they don't know it this is the point so government need to invest in tourism that's my advice well it's difficult to say a last one but we have to because we're running against time management our life anyway i think what uh buba and the other person have said i mean i totally agree with it because when we say tourism and the way it is in gambia now it's absolutely crazy i think the people who are there it doesn't matter what expert or what you know or how you know or how long you've been there is the support if you want to go and exercise what you know in that place people will always be you know behind you or in front of you trying to stop you from doing things because what have happened in gambia need to be rebrand again and this is what we need it is not going to be easy like what abc or one two three it will take time but for sure we can do it we can learn from other countries it just need the will to do it and we can and one important thing i want to say is i've been discussing this with bubba uh my own way because right now i've been throwing gambia and the tourists yeah the tourism system there for quite a while now they've been lying to the people in there telling them that oh this year tourism will will be good oh a lot of tourists will come and look let's call a spirit state this will take a long time you know we have the covet which have broken the whole economy of the whole world so personally this is my own personal thinking it will take nearly five years before tourism will be very very good to the pre um how to call it a covet era my own way for a simple reason i believe is that before the europeans will think of traveling to the gambia astoris i'm not saying no tourists will go to gambia i'm not saying that they might see two or three people and say oh let me just be lying i don't say that but example if you haven't hundred percent before now you're gonna have maybe 30 or 40 which is not good because the europeans they will talk to their people to make sure and they are doing a lot of marketing right now aggressive marketing when i say that so that they can sustain their tourists the people in here in europe look at the uk for example the the seaside resorts from southampton upwards they all be revived they've made them wonderfully so the tourists can go and spend time there rather than going away out of the country they will not force anyone and what they are doing now if you stay in some countries a matter example in mata if you stay maybe um three nights the fortnight is free gambia will not do that but you have to do something to get something desperate situation need desperate measures so this is something that i want them to have a look at it it's not late this story season is late definitely but still yet the incoming if there is any incoming coming thank god if there is any the incoming or the ones that we want to sustain let us just look at turn a new page and look at properly what we have to do it's not a rocket science we've done it before we've been there before and we can do it again it's gonna take time but we can thank you very much uh mr javan and uh let me i saw you nintendo last one i would drag you back here again i'm coming for another conference in london uh next next next maybe in two weeks time i'll be there please please give me a shout and we will definitely uh try and have a choke over coffee if you're going to buy coffee i'll be there thank you thank you very much ladies and gentlemen that is our wonderful brother uh mr jabal lamin jabang who is a tourism expert like you all know um now what we are going to do is uh we will go into politics politics hey hey koto foreign one president d [Music] foreign uh a telephone phone for my friend president i tell my friend follow follow follow follow president obama president foreign foreign foreign m foreign those of us that have lunch with our banks let's play you know how difficult it is to pay the loan you know how much pressure is put on you when you are called and told that your one thousand dollars is forgiven by the bank that's amazing and this long forgiveness is not just us it's on all of us because when a government owes another government when gambia owes anybody any institution alone what happens is you know every single citizen contributes towards paying that low you pay taxes you are taxed to pay those loans i hope we understand this now china forgives gambia and almost a billion dollars of loan and it is ready to give gambia billions of dollars of loan without interest china said it is going to give gambia loan in the bank of gondola in fact china [Music] foreign foreign foreign foreign um president [Music] um [Music] [Music] [Laughter] foreign [Laughter] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music]
