We made it to ayutthaya how you feeling? its been very confusing that was a nice journey we are going in lecia Ayutthaya a short train ride north of bangkok this city was once the capital of the kingdom of siam in 1350 the city surrounded by three rivers flourished for many years and was an international trading port due to its strategic location in 1767 the city was destroyed by the Burmese army and thus abandoned and never rebuilt today the ruins remain as a UNESCO world heritage site in this video we will take the time to explore some of the many ruins that remain we'll start by taking a tuk tuk to the west of the area to wat chaiwatthanaram hi guys we are here in wat chaiwatthanaram i hope i said that correctly this is an important ruin in the whole of Ayutthaya back in the day they used to do religious ceremonies in this temple it was built by the king and it contains in one of the stupa over there the remains of the prince and princess so lets have a look look at this place its amazing just imagine it 400 years ago all of this place full of life being one of the main temples of the city and people coming here gathering for the ceremonies and look at these walls imagine the amount of history being it so behind me is the river chao phraya which surrounds the whole of Ayutthaya Ayutthaya is actually an island and this river goes all the way down to Bangkok you have to pay 50 baht per person and remember that you have to cover your legs but you can rent or buy a skirt something that we noticed is that locals like to come here dressed at royals there are little shops where they rent typical costumes where you can wear them and take pictures here okay that was a bumpy ride we have made it to the next temple wat maha that so we are now in wat maha that here in ayutthata the entrance fee for this temple was 50 baht same as the other one something reminds me of Teotihuacan were we were in mexico i suppose it is the ruin style and there is something what this temple is really famous for ill show you that in a minute so a few days a go we were in Bangkok and we were in this temple wat pho we saw loads of buddhas like this i'm not sure what material but they were all golden but i can imagine back then all of these buddhas covered in gold and this place being like the wat pho temple in bangkok so do you remember i told you this temple as special because of a famous reason this is why they head of the buddha fell of the body which is over there and it rolled all the way down here and the tree just wrapped around it with its roots that is very interesting so this is one of the easiest temples to get to in the center of the city it is located in the central park of ayutthaya that looks good so basically we went to the night market but it was too late they were closing all the stalls we just got whatever we could we got some squid and a stick and we also got this kind of stuff she said that it has fish inside that is really spicy if anyone knows what that is please let us know we dont have any idea we just want to try things its like a fish paste it tastes good though thats really good its a bit spicy but there is so much flavour hey guys day 2 of exploring ayutthaya we are on our way to get food some 7/11 a sandwich or something to give us fuel for the day someone is hungry look at these ruins just in the middle of the road the first temple we'll visit today is a short drive south east of the main park hi guys we are in our first temple of the day we are currently at Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon I expect to be saying that correctly this is one of the few temples in ayutthaya that have ruins and an active monastery so this temple was built by the first king of ayuthaya it was not until 1950 that they started restoring it again so its not new but quite modern there is also a reclining buddha and thats not the original, its a replica that was build in 1960 incredible to see but not as big as the one in bangkok so to get here we took a grab from the main area to the monastery it took approximately 15 minutes and it was 85 baht to get into the monastery there were no fees I was reading about the buddhas, you see loads of buddhas in each part of the wall surrounding the chedi and because this temple was renovated in 1950 all of those buddhas are new and in the other temples where you can see just the ruins you'll see the buddhas decapitated during the war with the Burmese they decapitated the buddhas you see the bodies but you don't see the heads so this is the reclining Buddha of ayutthaya as you can see already, it is huge bigger than the one we just say in the other temple it's 42 meters long and 8 meters high what we see right now is the image of the reclining buddha it depicts the image of buddha in his dying position as he enters nirvana over there you can see he's reclining on the lotus flower you can see this buddha over here which is a replica it is covered in golden leaf so its believed this buddha was covered in gold as you can see these ruins over here it was suppose to be like the temple in wat pho it was suppose to be inside of a temple as well obviously the temple fell down and this has also been restored in the 1950s some of the other temples that we have visited have models of how the place looked like i suppose because it was the earlier period there is not as much information there is no model in this one maybe they dont know exactly how this looked like as you can see there is not a lot left of the structure it is impressive that the perimeters are still intact yeah it is interesting so these are sema stones i'm curious to know if these are the original maybe this one is and this one is something else new so now we are walking to another temple we thought we'd walk this time we thought we'd walk this time because its nice weather its not as hot and there is shade we are just gonna have to find our way to the next temple I think it is over there you see a lot of locals fishing around here, i just saw some fish I've been having fish for dinner quite regularly here it is quite cheap it's cheaper than beef, more or less the same as chicken considered world heritage by UNESCO in 1991 Wat Phra Si Sanphet build in 1492 was also known as the kings temple and was used for ceremonies by the royal family so this is the temple si sanphet lets take a look so they believed this temple was built in the later ayutthaya period those holes in the walls they are used for the air circulation and the light coming in that kind of construction started to appear in the later period they actually have an APP so you can see how the temple was so this one over here was the kings hall where he used to come and listen to the sermon as all of this was the temple for the royals so you can see the outline of the buddha with bricks, this is the first time we have seen this maybe thats how it was then covered in stucco hello mate so we are leaving the temple si sanphet now and we are going to to to the next one out last one for the day because it closes at 4:30 and its 3:30 already we'll try and catch the sunset they all look so interesting like everywhere you look its amazing this city if you have time, or one or two days to spare in thailand come to ayutthaya if you are interested in these ruins, even if you are not it's just impressive to see so we'll try and get to the next temple and we'll see you there so these are the tuk tuks you take in ayutthaya they are a bit smaller than the regular tuk tuks in Bangkok you have to be careful with you head so this one is called watratchaburana so we are at wat ratchaburana so we are just arriving to the main pagoda this one has been restored as you can see its in a lot better condition it was built by the king in that period in 1424 it was built in the place where they cremated his elder brother who died fighting in battle so not that long ago in 1957 they crypt of the temple was looted they took loads of images of buddha and artifacts that are very valuble was it every found? they found who did it and recovered some of the artifacts but not all of them that was not long ago i'm actually really tired but I really want to go and see whats up there there is our temple dog this is the crypt where all these artifacts were stolen from its interesting to see it from the inside you can also see down as well there are actually pigeons living in here look at that brick work and there is the main hall there
