Amazing WILD jungle food with Iban family in Borneo
first time waking up inside a long house so this is the tourist room which is one of 37 rooms here at the longhouse and each room has a different family living in it so as you can see very long quite literally long in the long house and so my impression is living here is sort of like waking up every day at a permanent sleepover because uh feels like all your family all your friends everybody is all around and they are sleeping in the next room sleeping on the couch sleeping on your brother's bed it feels like a kid again where i was at a sleepover and all my friends were all around so as you can see it goes all the way down and uh very friendly very community last night was a very party so really feels like uh a good place good vibes almost like a permanent sleepover and so with that let's get some coffee maybe oh breakfast coffee and peace and goring what could be better than that let's make an mccann shout out to the youtube channel called beer for breakfast because for one they actually have a video from this very long house which is quite a nice video but for two i was just enjoying my morning coffee and admiring the jungle view when one of the local guys here handed me some alcohol and said no problem just drink slowly it is the morning so it wasn't exactly beer we had for breakfast but some nice rice wine and i feel like i'm ready to hike so we've got our waterproof backpack as well as our adidas kampoon and we are ready to go on a short hike to see a beautiful viewpoint of the jungle like i said guys it's a very community feel feels like a sleepover every day is a sleepover everybody's out and about and the way the longhouse is set up is back here is the bedrooms private area where here is a community area and then each family has a sort of front yard that's uh usually used for drying fish or hanging their fishing equipment or something like that and you can see everybody just sort of hangs out together in this big long hallway it really is a community sort of friendly place good vibes in the uh longhouse okay let's go on a hike i'm excited this is so refreshing and i got a few bug bites on my ankles and the cold water is like a million bucks oh the jungle provides everything you need okay thank you to the jungle the best shout out to the jungle man okay okay okay okay sugarcane oh sugarcane wow oh my gosh i got me moving again we need the energy what is it what is it they told me the headhunters were dangerous oh ginger is it garlic garlic it's something like garlic okay with like soap it's vegemite it's like detergent or something it's red he's having fun oh it's uh is it up it's not it's a dab oh like that you better boil it usually we would boil it and mix it well it's gonna make this smiling a little bit you see the slime oh yeah okay jungle food better than the other one this is good i like this one okay okay fair enough love in this jungle right now and what a scene we have stumbled into we've got some local people chopping and preparing food making a fire this is the place to be right now this is better than any five-star resort or five-star hotel this is where it's at look at yvonne living her best life in the river this is awesome five stars this this this is a throne for princess okay you made a little seed for me a throne how nice these wow thanks look at this view in front of me you got a nice one is it good oh oh yeah the best the comfy the best thanks baby oh very nice 10 stars look at this i like the cup bamboo bamboo cap good is if we uh if we run out of gasoline on the boat we just put this right here this stuff is high-powered oh iban uh pronunciation so like makan makai makai makai makai jalan jalai jalai ai jalai europ europe europe oh is so it's a little bit of a party down here by the river yeah party everywhere everyone's drinking and dancing nice and we're cooking lunch in that uh in this uh sort of like lemon there's rice in the bamboo bowl by the way guys let's take a second to realize how many people are here there's like 10 people taking care of us right it's a nice trip it is it's got a little bit of everything it's got adventure it's got scenery and i think it's going to be really good food oh i think so very nice travel destination by the river come on very nice very nice just suck the juice right yeah very good very good yummy i like him he loves that everything um come on so it's nice wrapped in a leaf yeah the leaf is there to make it not stick to the bamboo that's right it looks so good it's similar to le mans yeah sort of like lemon the jungle oh it looks so good yummy yo i'm getting so hungry look at this nice yo ivana your plate is looking good holy jumping makandulu okay ready to eat jungle food everything was cooking everything was cooked in bamboo let's go oh my gosh this jungle food is amazing even the rice itself like it's so flavorful yeah i don't know what kind of leaf they use to cook it but it's amazing it's something special going on there really really great the rice by itself absolutely right without anything and to be honest the experience we had today was so good that it makes the food better that's true we've been hiking so we're hungry we're hungry and we're in an adventure and everyone out here is laughing and partying and having a good time uh this is the place to be they got the food line out here uh this is the place to be right now now we have elected to take the boat back rather than the hike yeah which is safe enjoying the river the lake and oh really or i think it might be the term where they have the tattoo oh sure the fruit from the flower one from the market remember on the way here is it tastes like a mix of tomatoes cool as a butterfly flies past your face yeah and what could be better than that fresh fish caught from the lake they live in you know what i mean oh my god i have to use my hand look at this yo it looks so good you wanna what a day dude come on um that yellow thing where'd it go i finished it this one it's really nice it's good right tastes like i told you eggplant eggplant and tomato or sour eggplant that's good we're thinking it's the fruit that um is from the flower that same tree that they put on tattoo here yeah yeah yeah something i'm trying it quite good even just adding rice is good yeah mm-hmm very good let me be clear yeah my six-star meal wow this kind of wood is what makes you stay young some food goes to your stomach this type of food goes to your soul that's right very nice very nice i am gonna miss this place what a meal we just had what an experience we just had and now we are going to take the boat on the high seas let's go houston we have a problem epic log jam so we've turned the engine off and i think we're gonna paddle through it this is exciting yo shout out to this lady right now she is killing it right now we're zipping right through the log gym she's using her foot and walking across floating logs is it legal he's going to abandon ship look at him he's floating on a tree trunk that was the coolest thing i've ever seen that was like james bond jungle james bond that was so cool oh oh here we go here we go driving on the shoulder sneaking up the emergency lane on the side here good idea good idea yo is it me or are there a lot of logs right here what is with the logs yo if i was smart i would just get out of the boat right now and i would just walk across the river you could right you could walk across the river right now oh it's so cool i've never seen this before where am i jakarta what is up with this traffic out here i just remembered i'm not wearing any sunscreen oh man overboard maybe faster to swim now this guy just jumped up the boat and now he's standing in the middle of the river he's walking on water look at this i'm a lumberjack and i wonder how many horsepower this engine is he's pushing the boat yo huge shout out to this guy who's in the water right now he just jumped in the water and right to safety and now we're through that was actually the best move he could have done good job was something special that was really something special that was some jungle creativity and some jungle hard work somebody get that guy a beer he earned it oh so our itinerary says free and easy for the rest of the afternoon so i don't know what ivana and i will get up to but we are back at the long house now and we don't have much energy for stuff pretty tired although that was a pretty great experience i really enjoyed that uh hike and lunch and boat ride very nice very nice tiring but five stars absolutely it's like uh over three o'clock right now and we started at like 8 30. all right let's go relax and see uh see how quick we can make dinner come yo the chicken today was delicious maybe it's from one of these chicken kampung chicken mountain chicken huh think we're lost i know the house is so long where's our room all the way till the end tiny alarms oh here we found it is it right yeah upstairs oh here oh this dogs yeah go up laundry day beautiful day oh check it out ivana it's like looking in the time machine isn't it this guy right here that's me in 10 minutes right there nice to meet you in 10 minutes oh that looks good all right so i just had the most delicious nap of my life and i think he wanted it too and i feel like a hundred million dollars right now and so now we are taking a walk to the end of the long house which might take 10 minutes or more and we're going to check out the library which is here which i believe was built by the government so the government has taken some initiatives to help these uh children and uh for example all the children do go to school although the school is quite a ways away so they go for two weeks they get in a boat they go to school and then every two weeks they come home for the weekend so it's quite a big job for these young kids because as you can imagine when they're seven eight nine years old they're living up at school they're taking care of doing their own laundry and washing their own clothes and sort of this is kind of makes sense to me because it seems like everybody here has a very uh do-it-yourself sort of can-do attitude uh there's always work to be done in these small communities and so they're always sort of working on something it seems like morning till night they are uh taking care of fishing nets and stuff so sort of an amazing story to imagine that these kids at starting from six years old are going to school on their own and staying up there sort of like boarding school for two weeks but anyway with that being said we've probably walked i don't know maybe half of the long house so maybe we're halfway there or so and then we'll go check out the library all right so a few minutes later we've made it to the end of the longhouse and i didn't realize there's actually no school age children in the longhouse that's right only small young children or adults because they're in school right now somehow i miss that i think the trip has been set up pretty well yesterday was like a party and this morning was like an adventure and now it's like the learning part of the trip so organized very well and uh the children are actually at school right now now if they were home maybe on the weekends and stuff this is their library so this is where they might do their homework or get some books to help them with their homework and stuff like that so built by the state government ah simple library very simple yeah and separate techno court hey shout out i think the kids probably the parents want the kids to go here but the kids while they go here oh yeah no video games good point no video games no playstation in the long house to connect we've been disconnected to connect disconnected to connect i get it to connect to nature and your body and life yeah and people good one ivana also nice inside okay cool outside is very simple but inside it's uh the students coming back the children's they will set up all the tables and the chairs so since they are cleaning so put it aside when they are on holiday ah yes and also during lockdown they come in oh i see i see so not actually a classroom but more like a library place to do your your schoolwork or practice your school things it was open in the morning sometimes when some of the students yeah especially during school holidays so any one of them they wanted to come here so mr jabu will open the lab okay so were you born in this long house uh no i was born in surya i was from the vidalia tribes okay okay tribes here but you're in diet not necessarily yeah okay okay whoa whoa sorry to interrupt you but oh my gosh for sure black widow yeah oh my gosh it's as big as my head guys is it fake but it's not a spider tarantula for sure yeah it is right yes it is is it what is happening right now no it's as big as a dinner plate guys it's as big as a football easily oh my gosh oh my gosh yo it's a we need to abandon ship right now we need to go to dinner because there's spiders in the library sounds like a movie all right there you have it guys the sun has fallen so now it's time for dinner dinner was so incredibly good although i cannot beat the meal we had at lunch so now ivana is going to brush her teeth and we are going to bed where you going i will say this uh a couple more shots of this is what right here this is the back area brush your teeth area toilet is down there and shower and shower okay one second night here great time so far yo for me it's a must do if you're coming to to sarawak it's a must-do yeah amazing you see the beautiful nature the lake the river on our hike was great you learn about the culture you meet beautiful people amazing i'm loving this and some nice food yes nice food good memories healthy food so that when you turn 71 years old you still look like you're 50. a million bucks yeah okay there you have it guys thanks for watching and we'll
