So guys we're in a new country for the New Year's. It's exactly -27 degrees now guys.. I can't even breath.. Gosh! It's really cold.
OMG! Hello guys and welcome back to our channel Tamil Trekker. Where are we today? We're in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Actually before this you would have seen the Vietnam budget series, a trip in one lakh.
but as time went by it just felt boring because it was a budget series I found it to be dull. and there was news about the Covid too. So I thought I'll leave from there and go to a new country for the New Year's. So I took the flight from there and came to Mongolia directly.. I had applied for the Visa from Vietnam I got down at Mongolia and came to my hostel but look at my first experience on the way to the hostel. So guys we're in a new country for the New Year's.
It's exactly -27 degrees now guys.. I can't even breath.. Gosh! It's really cold. OMG! It's really cold, look here.. For the first time they landed the flight in snow. and look at the airport. We're starting this New Year happily in a new country Look at all that snow. We've come to the extreme guys.
You're going to see a lot of new adventures in our channel this year. and my shoe's wet now. Look at the cars in this snow. It's all covered. Actually the roads are foggy..
There's fog everywhere. It's really cold. So that's how I felt coming out from the airport. That burst of cold.
I've never been to a place that was so cold. Actually that was a crazy experience. So after that I went to bed and it was really cold.
But something crazy happened in the morning, so take a look.. Hello guys, Welcome back to our channel Tamil Trekker. I'm in Mongolia and I'm going out for the first time.
Now we're going out the first time here in Mongolia. What I was really surprised about was.. I was searching to see if there are Tamil speaking people here in Mongolia. and then I got this contact.
His name was Ram Kumar. So through them... Actually they went to India on the same day I came here. They went back home, so I asked them if there's anyone else and they say yes there's someone right behind your hostel. When I talked to them they invited me over for breakfast.
When I talked to them I understood they've seen our videos. So that sister is a teacher here in the school. So we're going to their house now. OMG I can't even breath.. I wearing this like a neck brace because we can cover our ears and our nose..
because it's exactly -29 degrees now Even after I close it I can see the vapor from my nose. So just imagine how cold it would be here. Look the sun's shining bright but still the snow's not gonna melt.
So that sister had invited me over for breakfast and I didn't have my jacket with me. So they said we'll go buy a jacket. So I'm going to her house and I can't even talk.. I don't know how I'm going to stay in this cold weather and shoot a video.. This might look funny.. But reality is.. It's cold.
She said it was in the 7th floor.. Where's 7th floor? Wow! Look at these houses here. I guess that's the Elite school.
She said it's opposite to that. I think it must be that building. I think my eyes and my eye brow will freeze.. That's how cold it is. I don't know how people travel here.
We'd be fine with a jacket. But it'd be very hard without the jacket. Where's the Elite school? I don't know which one's the school.
There's a school zone board here, so I guess that's the school. Or is it that one? Have no idea. OMG.. and I've got no internet to contact her.
So I went on a different direction and I asked someone there "Do you know Elite school?" because he knew English he showed me the way. So I was going that way searching for it and husband of that sister came down.. So he picked me up from there. and just before that my hands froze and I started to tear up..
I had recorded all that but because the camera was being used in cold temperatures it had some issues there. It didn't work. because it's my first experience, I'm not sure what happened with the camera. But I fixed it in the upcoming videos.
So after that I went to their house and had my breakfast and we went to the market.. So come let's see that.. So guys I met her and we had breakfast and now we're going to buy some jacket here. This area is so cold.. I borrowed her jacket too. So gave it to me, so I'm wearing that while I go there.. I feel better after I wore the jacket but my hands still feel cold because I'm not wearing gloves.
Now we'll go to a store and buy the things that we need.. No, no you wear it. She gave me her gloves. Wait let me introduce you. Hello.. -Tell us your name..
Hello, my name's Sarala. I've been in Mongolia for 3 years now and this is my 4th year. I'm entering into my 4th year She's working in the Elite school that I showed you guys. What do you teach? I'm a global perspectives teacher in Cambridge. That's the Cambridge syllabus. So I'm the a global perspectives teacher.
and I also teach English. You wear it here.. It's fine, no problem. You have one.. You're hands are out. -It's fine sis.. So how do you feel living here? Is it okay? In winter it would be a little hard but apart from that the life here would be very peaceful. What can I say.. We won't find a lot of problems here.
because it's not so populated. Population here is very less. So our lives are very peaceful. I go back to India each year and I think I shouldn't back but when I think of this place I'll just wanna come back here.
Other than the winter.. -Other than winter all the seasons are very supportive. It would be really good. and the people are also friendly. -Yes people are very friendly.
Especially for Indians.. We've got a very good welcome and reputation here. because there's a lot of India-Mongolia bilateral relationships, we've get a good welcome here. So there's nothing sort of a threat for us here. You can even go out at 3 in the night. There's nothing to fear. I myself have gone out alone at 3 at night.
So there's nothing to worry here. It is a safe place but people do say many blocks here aren't so safe. Really? -Yeah As far as I remember I lost my phone once.. It was a snatch? Not a snatch I left it in my car.
and then our driver came back to give it to us where we got down. That's superb. that's how it is here. So guys we can't talk without covering our faces here. We'll talk when we're indoor.. It is a little hard right? It's really, really hard.
There's sun but then it's not even gonna matter.. We'll take the taxi or the bus? -We'll take the taxi. We need to go to the other side? There's also an app for taxi here but we get it on the streets too. So we'll just get a ride from here.
I feel bad for the people living here. You're fine? -Yeah no problem. We'll go get one there. -Okay Even when it's snowing here people follow the signals here.
Yeah a lot and moreover people are very ethical here about driving. Let's say we walk in all of a sudden.. There's a lot of respect here for the pedestrian Back home people don't respect pedestrians If there's an senior citizen crossing they don't stop. If they see us in the roads they'll stop for us and the driving here is more ethical. Don't want it.. -No we'll go.
Why not? -It's fine sis.. It's hard to keep it out.. -No I just have one hand out.. It's fine. I won't take it out completely.. There's a lot of vapor coming out our mouth. That's how cold it is..
You feel that it's dry? -Yes it's dry. I guess our body will become dry sooner here. There's not a lot of moisture here in this area.

It's covered with ice.. Look here. It's frozen. This ice won't melt anytime soon. -Yeah even with the sun out it won't melt. Weather's going to -36 degrees today and I don't know what we're gonna do.
I fell many times when I came here -Is that so? When I went to Himachal Pradesh in India I fell many times there. They'll keep the car turned on here? -Yeah Or else it won't turn on. Actually we came here and the store's closed.
Today's the 2nd day of New Year, so it's January 2nd. Even the New Year's done but they still haven't opened the store yet. So there's this area called Sunday Bazaar nearby.. Isn't it Sunday Plaza? -Sunday Plaza. So we'll check there and if that's also closed we'll go the department store which is a bigger store. How are the people here? Are they rich? Most of them are wealthy people and half of them are in mining industry and profiles like that.
See if you're gonna live in this country you need to be rich. because if you're gonna buy dresses for all 4 season that in itself is a lot of money. So if they're buying it, it's only possible if they're getting paid well. $1,000 is nothing here.
Actually this is a bank guys and there are all banks inside that place. Back home we have HDFC, IDFC, ICICI right.. Just like that all their banks are there inside. It would be nice if it was like that back home. We can do all our work at the same place.
Now let's take a taxi from here and get to the next place. We'll go to Sunday Plaza.. Gosh! It's slippery here. If you stay out any longer you won't be able to talk.. You'll kind of start blabbering. and your nose will start to hurt. But the people here aren't covering their noses.. I guess they're used to it
Yeah but most of the time if we don't fall sick it's better to have it covered. Instead of worrying in the pain it's better to have it covered. Have you been to extreme? -Where? I mean has it been extreme conditions when you've gone out. Yeah it has happened.. They had invited me to the Embassy on Gandhi Jayanti .. During that celebration. I didn't check the weather that day and I just wore the normal cut shoe that day.
and after a while it started to snow heavily. We weren't able to stand there and at a point of time we started crying.. When I was walking to your house in the morning my eyes started to tear up.. and then Nimi sister asked me to come with her to the car and then she turned on the heater in the car.. and only then I felt normal and after that I figured out that Mongolia is always unpredictable They have an unpredictable weather. It would be a sunny day but it would snow all of a sudden.
So you should be always covered and you should be layered. I think those kinds of hats that cover our ears would be better. Like what? -Like the one that guy's wearing. No matter what you wear there'll be piercing. I guess there's no other way.. Most of them buy gobi cashmere or Cashmere products here..
Cashmere is that fur.. That woolen fur That would help us withstand the cold. So people usually buy and wear that.
It would generate more heat on the inside. All those cashmere products Actually they speak Mongolian language here. I thought they'll understand a little bit of Russian and I tired speaking to him in Russian with the few words that I know but he didn't understand. So I guess I need to learn a few words of Mongolian here. How many words do you know? I know very few words of Mongolian.. I did try but I wasn't able to learn.
It would be very different from Tamil right? It's very different and the sound that they produce comes from the vocal box.. because it's like that.. It's like Arab, so there's a lot of that 'ha' sound. So we've come to the department store now. I guess only this store is open today. All other stores are on leave. Even the restaurants are closed today.
I guess there was a big celebration for Christmas here. So this is like the malls we have guys.. There'll be all kinds of stores here. and this is where we're gonna buy our sim card and all the jackets and stuffs that we need. It's warm once we're inside All these are make up products Maybe the ladies here wear a lot of make up? -Yeah They're beauty conscious. All these gold are from here.
So they've got mines for gold and copper here. Sp they also use a lot of gold. I guess we could go this way. We need to go up? Okay.. This is a super market.. If you want something we could go there too. I just need to buy a cream.. -Yeah we'll go there after we get this. So guys most of the stores were closed that day due to New year.
So I bought this jacket the next day. and this jacket from that market cost 250,000 Tugrik I'll put the conversion rates down So I bought this jacket. and then I bought this shoe.
If you look at this shoe... It's dog's fur. and it's goat skin on the inside. Go closer.. and it's cow's skin on the outside. So it's made with dog's fur, goat skin and cow skin.
and this shoe cost somewhere around 350,000 and then I bought this cashmere gloves which was around 40,000 tugrik So this is a yoke sock and this cost around 20,000 and then I bought a hat and came home.. That's all for the shopping. and then I bought this pant and it's made with camel hair, so it's nice and soft. and then I also bought this pant. and this is like a cowboy pant and even this is soft. This was around 30,000 We have strap it to our shoulder but I didn't fit for my size, so I gave it to Vishnu. So we bought all this and came back and I spent a lot on that itself.
because when we're in such a cold place we've got no other choice. and next we've got a big journey ahead, stay tuned to find out the reason we've come to Mongolia. You'll soon see the teaser.
