Exploring Mardin 2021- Made new friends!
hello we made it to mardin so today we'll be exploring this is our first day first day in mardin we're going to be getting some food now and then explore the historic city and see what it's got to offer we're staying right in the city center so we went down i think it's like two seconds okay we found this place just off the high street and the menu is really cute it's called marmatba cafe and restaurant and the prices are really reasonable you can find tost for karasik toast for 14TL got pasta for 29TL let me show them in the menu the drinks are really decent starting off with a toast because we're hungry we're super hungry it just a light lunch.. light there's a regional desert it's called harire yoresel tatli which is made from uzum so grapes it's the juice of the grapes that has been dried yeah it's a bit soft and it's with walnuts on top grape juice dried oh it's cold it's a bit does that feel a bit jelly yeah i like it i don't think you'll like it but i like it this is i don't think this is to your taste so for two toasts tea and the dessert we just paid 67 liras so i think that's pretty decent price in the central location with a place that's got a really nice view and it tastes good and fresh one of the first things you want to do is to explore the streets and just wander around and it's very interesting architecture all the houses are all unique none of them look like each other the whole city is built on us on the side of the mountain for protection over centuries so mardin has got a mixture of cultures and history with christians living here and muslims so there's a lot of churches here and to this day they're still in use and a certain population of the people here are actually still christians and this behind us is the syrian catholic church i think it's still being used so i might go to church the nice thing about old martin is that you see historical buildings you see hotels but you also see normal people who actually still live in these houses every corner is different like you should turn around and you don't know what to expect it's like a maze in here it's like a maze in here it's giving you a side eye he's giving me a side eye he doesn't look that happy that's a donkey that is a horse no that is a horse are you joking this is a horse he's offended look come on are you scared to walk a good place to start exploring is also the mardin museum which is just by the center in the old town and then maybe a stepping stone to learn about the history but on mondays it's shut so don't come on a monday and we're here on a monday we're here on a monday we're just gonna explore the streets i find someone who's listening to non-turkish music michael jackson we're just going higher and higher to the top of the city and see if we can get a better view this is the guy that's a nice echo as well the higher you go up though it's more quiet there's literally no one around this place now so that's the secret look how narrow it is now behind me you can see the castle over there that's still in use by the military to get a view of the whole city and ensure protection and they can see any threat quickly you can't go in there unless you're actually part of the army this view you could actually see syria right there it's about eight kilometers from mardin there's a very angry mom at the back we should make our way out this is where the locals live and someones getting told off I don't know who's getting told off she's angry so we're here at the protestant church just walking fast to go to the mosque and it just shows you that mardin is so diverse even in the religion here and these are all still active churches so what was the other church this is a catholic catholic and then we've got the most right next door This is where you can buy all the dried stuff just off the high street this is probably one of the more nice shops because you do get a general kuryemis which is translates to dried nuts and dried nuts and fruits but this is really nice we just walked into the shop and they gave us free coffee tasters this is how welcoming they are it's actually quite nice yeah it tastes a bit different thank you very soon so these are all different coffees different flavored coffees so this one's bananas orange there's just so many walnuts chocolate menengic yeah there's just so many choices iris this is um like it's got sugar coated in something it's so good it's like the healthy sweet it's not really processed like other chocolates it's almost sunset now and i think it's a lot nicer in terms of photos you want to take the tone of the colors on the stones has changed it's really nice and cool to walk through the streets jai that's a sick thumbnail Right we're gonna go to ulu camii which is just over there ulu camii he want's to explain it Bunyamin's house has got the amazing view apparently so we're gonna go up so this is ulu camii it's prayers time this is all Bunyamins cousins this is the entrance in the night time they come here photography skills watch he's learned this he's very good at it he's going to be a future star photographer he took that in like two seconds he did he was like do this do this move your hand closer look at each other his name is foreign look we've got a gang around us now an army of kids from mardin they all want to show us they all want to take pictures yeah they're super friendly they're like can i record can i come in Bunyamin's cousins a bit mature that he's like you guys stay and the other one's sad he's like can i come can i come okay we're going to the copper craftsman shop oh they're all shut it's closed its going to be open soon in a weeks time he wants to record as well but this is where all the boutique shops are and they have all the independent business sellers okay so we were just walking and Berivan and her friends they're selling midye which is mussles and Berivan sells coffee we started to have a conversation Reyhan Kahve bir numara so they offered us coffee we just sat here talking learning about business and economic conditions here their daily life basically they're just sharing their daily life and we just sat here because they're so nice and so she became our first subscriber because we just published our first video Berivan is single so i know we're laughing but people since we've been here the people we spoke to the young people are complaining about the economic conditions and how hard life is based on the salaries everything is so expensive like so expensive for example Berivn is earning 2 500 liras a month and each meal we pay is like 20 30TL per meal per person yeah per person like minimum the cheapest tea we found is like four liras like imagine paying four pounds in the uk and your salary is like 2 500. like that's the cheapest and meals like 30 liras like 30 pounds for example anyway i love you italy which is england england england england england england england island anyone who's single in england or maybe america canada canada wow africa she even says philippines is fine okay we need to find anyone who's filipino who's single let us know in the comments has kindly given us some special coffee reyhan coffee she also wants her number for those who wants that give you my phone number instagram and instagram instagram instagram follow her like and comment so behind us we've got the mussels behind us becet has now served us midye hello so we're gonna give this a try iris is trying to get into it we were sitting with our newly found friends where we had midye they said that places here actually are open until 5am so who would have thought you could actually go out in mardin until five in the morning and they all serve alcohol unlike Urfa you can get pissed here not that we intend to get pissed but if you wanted to you can get pissed in mardin exactly and actually they have special wine assyrian wine which is actually um assyrian people used to drink it not because they wanted to get drunk but actually blood symbolized jesus so interesting fact and you can actually buy that as a souvenir in many shops here
