24 Hours In The World's Most Polluted City (Lahore, Pakistan)
I am in Lahore Pakistan and today is my first day exploring this fascinating city which is currently the world's most polluted city with a dangerously unhealthy air quality index today I will be spending the day in Lahore just like a local would challenging myself to see if I can handle the day-to-day activities under these tough air conditions first I will try to get a haircut and then the plan is to visit one of the oldest markets in South Asia located in the center of the city and since laor is known as the food capital of Pakistan I will be ending the day by trying some hopefully delicious local food spoiler one of these plants though doesn't quite go as expected and turns into a failure throughout the day I will also share how it feels to tour the city under such challenging air quality conditions let's explore La Pakistan feel free to join I just left my hotel which is over there and according to Google Maps there is a barber shop in I think it's this road right here so let me have a look and yeah in case we can't trust Google Maps here then I'm sure we're going to find some friendly locals who are willing to help finding a haircut place first of all oh there's traffic from both sides coming here hello salum let me uh safely cross the road using my hands here we go oh there's actually a haircut place right here oh on the street maybe I can get a haircut here hello Salam alikum hello can I get a hair haircut here I can get a haircut here haircut yeah how much is a haircut here h k now for ha 100 100 okay okay you first I right here oh no no you first I don't want to steal your I can ra hell oh that was actually easier than I thought according to Google Maps there's like a saloon down the road here but I think right here on the streets that's actually a better experience okay all right it's my turn now okay okay so let me show him uh an example picture uh you can do like this ah I'm excited this is going to be an interesting experience I'm sure I yeah I didn't have to wait long here now maybe like 10 15 minutes so I think he's actually doing a quite a quick job which is good sometimes I'm annoyed by sitting for like an hour in the haircut Saloon where they like wash your hair and go into every details but let's see how long it will takes to cut my hair here so we're starting with just shaving the sides the example picture that I showed had a pate on the sides I would be surprised if he would actually do a proper fate here but maybe let's see maybe I will be surprised what is your name Iman Iman okay nice to meet you I have to say I really like this operation here just a chair a table and a mirror and you have your own business here I really like the Simplicity of this operation in Germany this wouldn't be possible we have way too many rules and regulations in Germany you can't just put a table by the side of the road and open your own haircut place but here looks like you can and that is great I like that make starting your own business very easier for example imagine you just lost your job you can't find a new one but you know how to cut here then you can just set up a little operation by the side of the road here and boom you have a new way to earn money that's really cool yeah where I'm from in Germany definitely not possible I actually think that this uh corner here is quite Lively we have uh one guy selling juice this here I think then over there is a second one plenty of a traffic driving by so I actually could imagine that this is quite a good spot for his business here I really love how accurate he works he checks many times in the mirror looks like from this perspective if there's some hair left here and there really like that it's making really professional impression to me I'm sure he used to work in a proper haircut place before and maybe then just decided to start his own business here which I can totally understand it's always better to Be Your Own Boss very good so far and now he's continuing with the Scissor on the top of my head so we are completely done with all the sides now and yet the top of my head doesn't require much work just shortening it a bit [Music] actually to be honest for Street Barber a lot of attention to details here I'm surprised in a very positive R here now clean in the face can I also get a shape here shape everything keep now how much 100 or more okay then now also please hello everyone here seems to be very surprised to see a foreigner sitting here whenever I see people coming by they always look very surprised so he's getting out think it just to make the the skin more more soft Maybe also smell nice oh what is he getting out there oh maybe a headrest oh I can put my head back now oh looks like he's getting out some new equipment what are we having here going R the water getting some new water ah there we have the pH shaving com yeah okay so he is of course using fo to shap my face but first the water what is this a shaving gel for all face type okay so I guess you will apply the water first that's what he just did now the jail and then the Pham three layers having a shap in Asian countries is also at the same time like a face massage and now we applying the foam here we go oh buts very smooth that's very good second round of home doing it all over again to make it even smoother but yeah very smooth experience so far I didn't feel anything and here we go round number two so many people know check it out I think everyone is surprised that there a corer here getting a haircut in the shape oh that burns a bit now it's the after Shake hello hello hello hello how are you I'm very good okay okay okay very good you right oh I like that the haircut looks good the shave feels very fresh and clean oh that was a good experience and yeah total price for haircut and shade 200 which I think is a very local price so I'm going to reward him with a little tip because you know I like it when I get a local price so let me leave a tip good that was a really good job yeah I'm really happy I am Happ yes thank you so much that was a great experience so yeah if you are in laor and you want to get a nice haircut and shave again what exra money extra money extra 300 300 300 more for me no no no for you for you it's okay for you yes thank you okay oh he even wanted to give me back the money but you guys know if I'm getting a fair local price then I have no problems with tipping the people and he did a good job I want to support his little business here so paying a bit extra why not but yeah if you are in laor as well and you want to get a nice little shapen haircut just by the side of the road and this is the Four Points by Sheran hotel right over there so just on the opposite side of the road that's where you can find him unlike Karachi laor actually has a Metro system and we have a metro station right here so I want to check it out and this is my first time using a metro in laor Pakistan let's see how it is and how easy it is to use as a hor now H okay yeah security levels are high in Pakistan and yeah should be only one station right to the market where I want to go to you from I'm from Germany Germany nice so do this here yeah yeah just visiting Pakistan so we have one side for men and one for female to order tickets where you want to go uh I think the station name is GP how much does one take no no it's okay I pay for you no no I can pay thank you very much I really appreciate that thank you so much I think the price of the fair is 25 rupe right and I got a coin now just hold it here single Journey ticket okay and just like that we're inside the metro station do you know which side I have to draw this one okay oh thank you very much your help I really appreciate that you're going in the same direction uh yeah but we go far you go more far I heard that the Metro here is quite new in laor right yeah it's been 3 years 3 years old yeah Chinese Chinese build yeah I think the Chinese are investing a lot in Pakistan right so yeah many of the projects here are actually funded by the Chinese I mean it looks uh very new here modern clean looks like a very nice station here I have to say and we have a screens here announcing the next train even in English that's great this train 2 minutes to Ali Town station and yeah it switches from the local language to English every few seconds okay I would guess that they have cards here specifically for women so probably in the front that's only for the women and then the other cards here are mixed is some part of the train only for women yeah yeah right I remember in India for example it was I think always at the beginning of the train that was only for the females seems like many people using it and yeah we have the the maps here so you can see where you are at the moment we are here lak shimi and I want to go to GPO so it's only one station not that far and then actually there's a station called anakali that's actually the name of the market where I want to go but I think I can get off here and then walk around the area and now we can see a little bit of laor from above because the train is actually it's not like an underground Metro it's actually like a Sky Train so some are underground and some above ah yeah so we just uh went underground so seems like some parts of the Metro is above the ground and some is under the ground so I think that my station will be underground I think we are already stopping oh yeah here we have the station already no that's another one is ill station it's a GPU you want to go in AR I'm not going out here no that's another one I have a ticket to go here is the same where you want to go but now you want to go n yeah yeah another station is yours that's a GPO okay Nar I thought I need to go out the GP to go to the market go firstar then you go the mark okay then I'm actually not going out here I'm actually going out here so one more okay thank you very hospitality of the people here I had the same experiences already in Karachi people are just so welcoming and friendly but yeah let's see if I can find my way out of the station here but yeah I can actually imagine that this is quite a convenient way to get around the city I think it's also cheaper than taking a rick shot for example cuz yeah the ride was literally only 25 rupe now that to me sounds very affordable so I think I need my coin again oh gosh where's my coin ah here it is so this is just entrance and here I can exit the station so probably just like this and here we go and that's how you use the metro in laor pistan very nice to use very easy and convenient even as a foreigner and here we are outside um so I have to figure out where this Market is now yeah I was a bit confused that I had to take two stations now because I had a look on Google Maps earlier and I thought I need to go to GOP station which is this one right here oh hello hello hell hello where is anakali Bazar this side straight just straight here I don't the bike now nice no thank you I just want to walk thank you all right let's find anakali Bazar one of the oldest bazaars in all of South Asia to be honest my very first impressions here the city actually looks quite nice maybe you saw my previous video when I arrived here where I only got like very little First Impressions because I haven't really been out just arrived at my hotel basic but I have to say the area here actually looks nicer than the area around my hotel and also to compare it a bit to Karachi where I have been previously I mean I don't want to judge a whole city based off one street corner but so far I think it looks a bit cleaner than Karachi but let's not judge too early let's wait until the end of the day hello oh we have people selling streets food here H looks like a french fries oh okay maybe later thank you yeah maybe you remember from my previous video I had a stomach infection and actually that is still not gone uh this video is now filmed a few days later after my arrival video here in laor so I'm still struggling actually quite a lot with my stomach so I'm actually not really Keen to eat anything at the moment but maybe later I'm actually curious to try local food later okay I am a bit confused now so I am here now and according to Google Maps the anakali Bazar is here right next to GP station so why am I here so maybe I am in the wrong place but the guys literally just said I have to walk down the street here oh and we have a donkey here I saw so many donkeys is already in Pakistani Hospitality here which is amazing and yeah first update about the air quality the pollution situation I do feel it a little bit but only a little bit for example if I'm doing like this yeah you see it then you feel it a little bit but so far it's not at the point where I would say it's annoying like usually when you're in a very uh polluted city the air quality is very bad it makes you Tire it pretty fast it makes you exhausted pretty fast and I don't feel that yet so so far it's still okay walking around here and breathing the air but yeah if I really do like that then I'm feeling it a little bit but another update later on that I mean wow look at this street here this looks like a street with history with a nice character oh I would imagine that that this street is probably hundreds of years old very interesting they're selling some food here I think this is fish hellum I think they're selling fish here and then maybe some uh samosas hello is this fish yes ah it smells like fish here yeah yes yes oh some fried fish actually I I read that Lori fried fish is actually very famous in Pakistan do you know how old this street is sorry how old is this street it looks very old that's very cool old arali this is anakali right yeah and how many years old uh I don't know you don't know oh but it's hundreds of years old I guess right yeah yeah yeah right it looks very like an an Asian tourist would walk around my hometown and he would find everything so fascinating and interesting I think I couldn't imagine that but uh that's how it is for me here and I think I the best places to eat Pata so yeah I definitely want to try some food here although yeah I'm still struggling a bit with my stomach so I don't want to try too much but I think a parata that's uh good okay so actually the options here sound really really good especially I haven't had any proper food for almost a week now so I'm actually starving and then reading this beef cheese steak CH chicken cheese pizza it just uh sounds very delicious to me I think I'm going to take the Alo Pata potato Pata I would like to have the Alo Pata Alo Pata simple with potato right yes potato so the total price is 296 have a good day bye-bye yeah what I'm going to do now is uh I'm going to get her right back to my hotel it's just a around the corner here actually and then I will eat it in my room yeah here here's okay it's okay okay do you want this you want okay okay goax okay okay sh thank you all right back at my hotel let's go to the room and try this oh really good smelling food okay first of all I have to say that I do really feel it in my throat now that the air quality here is not the best in laa um yeah I feel it back here in my throat and also I have the feeling that my face is very dry especially my lips so yeah you do feel it here and that was just one day exploring around so I'm not sure if I would feel comfortable to explore four five six days around the city here and I actually feel bad for the people living here who experience this air quality every single day but of course the air quality changes literally every day so it's possible that any a few days the air quality here will be already much better but I had a look on the air quality index for a few days in a row now and literally every single day laor was ranked at number one in the whole world the worst air quality in the world currently so it seems like that's a problem here that doesn't happen only like once or twice every once in a while and by the way by the time I am editing this video the air quality in laor got even worse way worse the air quality index is currently at almost 500 which is more than double what I experienced and it's even so bad that many places in Lao have to close and they have a little bit of a lockdown situation because it is so unhealthy to go outside with this air quality and yeah I also have to say it was pretty difficult to get this into the hotel the security guards down there told me that outside food is not allowed in the hotel and I have to say after staying in hundreds of hotels around the world in the past years this is the first time that a hotel actually told me that I can't bring outside food inside the hotel but as you see I still have it here because in the end the SEC beuty guy was very friendly and he said okay I make an excuse just take it and enjoy the food so here we have the parata now actually the smell so far is like a pizza if I would be blindfolded and smelling this I would think I'm having a pizza in front of me and it looks like this a the smell is amazing so what are we having here so this is the flat bread here which is a yeah filled with potato and I think there's chili inside oh oh I should have asked about that I'm definitely not comfortable to eat chili now with my sick stomach so let me uh take a bite oh it smells delicious it looks delicious let's see I hope it's not chilly let me try one bite oh oh it is very spicy oh oh that is unfortunate oh it is very spicy oh I can't eat it unfortunately oh that is sad The Taste is great actually and yeah if you don't know my channel I'm very very weak with eating spicy food my stomach just can't handle it even in normal conditions and now I'm having a sick stomach so I definitely unfortunately can't eat spicy food so this parata is uh enough for me unfortunately well but okay the one bite that I had was uh still delicious nevertheless and also unfortunately this is already my last video from Pakistan I had a few more interesting places planned to visit but yeah I spent in total now a week sick here a few days in Karachi and then also after my arrival here in laua um I spent the past two days just here in the hotel room because my stomach just didn't feel good still not feeling super well today was the first day where I felt okay enough to go out explore but it's not really fun when the stor IC feels bad every day so I have to catch my Pakistan trip short unfortunately I'm going to miss out a few places for example Islam abat that I had planned in the next days but I'm staying positive and I see that as a reason to come back to Pakistan again next year because I had a great time here especially the friendliness of the people here the hospitality is absolutely outstanding and I'm sure Pakistan has more interesting places to offer that I haven't seen yet so I'm pretty sure that I will be back in Pakistan sooner or later and then hopefully with an okay stomach I hope you enjoyed my Pakistan series and if you haven't seen
