there is devastating loss in kentucky catastrophic flooding has claimed the lives of 28 people including four young children swept away from their parents arms the death toll is expected to rise as more rains hinder search and rescue operations meanwhile many survivors lost everything they owned in just a matter of minutes dale hurd has the story search and rescue operations are ongoing in eastern kentucky where dozens are still missing from devastating floods and the number of dead could rise significantly parts of eastern kentucky receive between eight and ten and a half inches of rain in just 48 hours creating flash flooding that swept away what little some people had their homes i had my own life saving saved him i ain't got nothing took about five minutes for that to happen five to six minutes and it was gone from the time i got out of the house it wiped out areas where people didn't have that much to begin with among those lost are four children ages two to eight swept from their parents arms as they clung to a tree the parents survived kentucky governor andy beshear told nbc's meet the press the final death toll will not be known for some time and we know it's going to grow with the level of water we're going to be finding bodies for weeks many of them swept hundreds of yards maybe a quarter mile plus from where they were lost damage to roads and bridges and even more heavy rain sunday hampered rescue efforts the national guard says it used helicopters to rescue more than 400 this was something that didn't concentrate itself a tornado has a path it hits that swath and it's gone this hit the entirety of the county blistering heat and humidity is expected in the days to come shelters have opened to hundreds of homeless the white house has declared a federal disaster to free up direct relief money to more than a dozen kentucky counties operation blessing has already delivered pallets of water and home depot disaster relief kits to several churches in the area and is continuing its relief operations as needs grow pastor jason adair says the supplies are desperately needed these communities number one are already in poverty stricken areas they were already struggling not just our community but eight counties around us have been devastated by the flood one father who found his daughter after she floated to safety on a rooftop said conservative supreme court justices john john jessup has more on that story from our cbn news bureau in washington john that's right gordon and so far federal law enforcement agencies aren't taking action even as a new poll shows a majority of american voters believe abortion rights advocates have gone too far cbn's katelyn burke has the story protesters keep a consistent weekly agenda wednesday night marches at the homes of justices kavanaugh and roberts thursday nights justice barrett friday's justice thomas and saturday's alito as state local and federal lawmakers argue over whose job it is to deal with them those marching vow no privacy for us no peace for you after nearly three months the protests show no sign of ending what do we want a recent poll shows a majority of american voters don't approve of the protests outside the homes of supreme court justices 61 percent of registered voters saying this kind of protest undermines democracy 58 percent want attorney general merrick garland to enforce a federal law prohibiting them there's a federal statute designed to protect not just judges and justices but also prosecutors and witnesses in federal court and federal trial while garland initially helped the justices get around the clock security there's been only silence since then from the justice department at the beginning of july the u.s supreme court marshal called on governors in virginia and maryland to enforce state and local laws regarding this picketing both governors pointed back to the federal government in a statement to cbn news virginia governor glenn younkin's spokesperson said quote governor glenn younkin has been working with state and local officials and holds the justice's safety as an utmost priority governor younkin has asked for every resource of federal law enforcement including the u.s
marshals to be involved he has requested that the attorney general of the u.s should do his job by enforcing the much more robust federal law younkin and maryland governor larry hogan have encouraged enforcement of local laws as well and a few weeks ago the montgomery county police department announced it would begin arresting protesters who violate the disturbing the peace or disorderly conduct statutes our adjustments are being made in response to community complaints and things that folks that have come out have done noise amplifying devices if it's amplifiers speakers bull horns you know those types of things playing loud music that's where we're saying you know okay we need you to not bring these things you can feel you can still come you can still uh you know protest but you can't use these these noise amplifying devices when it comes to the legal question of stopping these protests and who can do it first amendment expert hans von spakovsky says both the state and federal governments have a role to play here not only is there a federal statute that prevents this but for example in virginia where several of the justices live there's a state statute on this also that protects the tranquility and peace of people's neighborhoods where they live that is fully in accord with the first amendment amid the ongoing protests and national unrest justice clarence thomas is stepping down as a law lecturer at george washington university while thomas has not commented on his decision a petition to have him relieved of the role recently garnered over 11 thousand signatures caitlin burke cbn news washington thanks caitlin president biden is back in quarantine after testing positive twice for covid19 over the weekend the so-called rebound infection can happen among a small percentage of patients who take the oral antiviral treatment paxlavid the president's doctor says he has no symptoms and there's no need to immediately restart treatment mr biden spent five days in quarantine last week after first testing positive for kovid and returned to work in person thursday house speaker rather the president set back after a victory in congress last week west virginia democrat senator joe manchin agreeing with majority leader chuck schumer on a 670 billion dollar piece of legislation build the inflation reduction act it's aimed at cutting health care costs and addresses climate change and energy concerns louisiana republican senator bill cassidy told abc's this week that by raising taxes on corporations the bill will do more harm than good it may be disinflationary by causing a recession they're interjecting an incredible amount of incredible amount of uncertainty into the economy just as we entered a recession senator cassidy says the bill also raises taxes on middle class and lower income earners over time senator manchin defended the bill on several sunday shows saying it does not raise taxes rather only closes loopholes on fox news host bret baer pointed out that when manchin supported president biden's american rescue plan he claimed it would not cause inflation but many economists now say it's the reason prices are so high why should americans believe you now when you say that this new bill will not exacerbate inflation i mean surely i don't make that mistake again that's the bottom line i make sure i didn't make that mistake again with that i tried i was anticipating that we could help and do more and and everything that you've said here is correct and i'm not counting that whatsoever that's why i was extra cautious right now senate democrats need 50 votes to pass the bill but it's not clear if arizona's kirsten cinema is on board well house speaker nancy pelosi is in singapore today the first stop of her trip to asia the speaker also set to visit malaysia south korea and japan one stop though not listed on the official itinerary is taiwan talk of a potential visit sparked pushback from china cnn reports both a senior u.s official and a taiwanese official say she is expected to make the trip if she does pelosi would be the highest-ranking u.s official to visit the island in 25 years over the weekend china held live fire exercises in the waters across from taiwan now to the war in europe a cargo ship full of ukrainian grain pulled out of the port of odessa this morning headed for beirut it's the first shipment to leave the country since russia's invasion in february last month russia and ukraine signed a u.n negotiated deal to allow shipment of
more than 20 million tons of grain stuck in black seaports just one day later though russia attacked the odessa port grain is necessary to help stave off a global food crisis the u.n world food program estimates some 285 million people currently face starvation well now an answer to prayer to report last week we asked our viewers to pray for cbn's orphan's promise team members taken captive by the russian military in burdens ukraine for the weekend we received news that eight of the ten people taken captive have been released we ask that you please continue to pray for two who are still being held by the russians the others are now recovering but they also need prayer for suffering beatings and torture one is in the hospital after having a heart attack gordon i've got terry here for more on this story so terry how were the eight released you know i think that they took them in they checked people over to see whether they have any anything on them or either paper wise or also even a tattoo of any kind that would indicate that they might be a part of the ukrainian are they looking at tattoos well you know there there is a symbol the ukrainian symbol for freedom which you know would kind of be like in america having a symbol of the american flag something like that so lots of people could have that tattoo on them an eagle exactly and so those people are kept and then there was a place um a specific place where they were keeping a lot of people who had been captured and where they were being tortured and held and of course they've been saying all along that this is being done by ukrainians which makes no sense but they bombed that place everybody in the place was killed everybody it was totally decimated um i read yesterday that some people were saying there was a bomb from within which you know would have not been planted by the ukrainians but uh all of those people that had been tortured how in the world do you get a bomb inside yeah yeah so i mean there's just such inhumanity that is being foisted upon people who are prisoners of war and and not just people who are prisoners of war men and women on the street who are being captured women i mean some of the things you can't even talk about on tv that are being done to people and you just don't understand fight a war but why why would you torture people the way they're being tortured how much of the current propaganda within russia is playing a role in these war crimes because what they're saying is they're fighting nazis and so for a russian to go back to what the nazis did in world war ii uh we need to get back for that so they're trying to stop the nazis in ukraine how much is that playing a role well i think it's it may be playing a role in russia because those people have very limited knowledge from outside the country i mean i'm sure today with technology what it is there are people who are able to to find that but i mean the president of ukraine is a jew for heaven's sakes i mean the whole nazi concept is ridiculous but so is most of what's well the disinformation is is widespread i mean all you have to do is look at any comment thread on any story on ukraine and you'll see people saying well it's this isn't true and this is you know there's there's another set why are you defending the nazis uh so there it just seems to be ongoing what what about the two that remain captured to my knowledge i believe they may be the two people who came from mariupol who had been already through so much they had been captured and escaped and got out and we're just trying to get to a part of ukraine that's not occupied i'm not positive about that but i believe they are the two that are still there the man in the hospital with the that had the heart attack is the father of the pastor that we work with in berdansk and he and his wife were simply humanitarian helpers there you know people who were offering help and what they were doing so and the same with the two from mariupol you know that they were there was a lot of work going on there there are people in these places who have stayed simply to be to be able to uh to give food i mean there are people who are stuck there a lot of elderly people a lot of sick people children and families with poverty they have nowhere to go so they they don't leave um so just a lot of prayer needed for justice and mercy and for god to intervene thank you for and we need to pray yes we need to pray fervently for ukraine and for russia that their eyes would be opened as to what is is truly happening on the ground absolutely absolutely this war needs to stop yes it does it does more than a million photographs of israel captured long before digital cameras cell phones or computers a pictorial history of the holy land has been documented by a jewish organization that also helped to develop israel middle east bureau chief chris mitchell takes a look at this ongoing effort to chronicle the story of the jewish state this may look like a storage room full of old files although in reality it's a treasure trove providing a pictorial history of israel we're at the heart of the archive at the photo archive this is the place where we can find printed photographs taken from early 20th century and all the way till the end of the printed material era decades before the jewish state's birth karen k emmett la israel jewish national fund or kkl jnf was breaking ground kl jnf is an organization that was established 120 years ago aimed at buying purchasing land in eretz israel right here in israel and also developing it which means preparing the land after purchasing it for housing building new communities helping people get here so they can fully establish and inhabit these homes a fraud sinai head of kkl jnf photo archive says cameras have continued snapping history since the beginning kkl jnf used to send photographers to different corners all over israel so they can capture what is going on the places that are being built and established the faces of the pioneers all that spirit of creating something new and that's what's created this unique and very important collection one of sinai's favorites is this unique pose of david ben-gurion israel's first prime minister it's not something that we're used to seeing him with with cool sunglasses there's another picture which i really like david ben-gurion on the day of the declaration of independence while he is still working out the draft of that declaration and a year later on israel's first birthday these are photographs from the very first year of the celebration in 1949 as you can see bringing the torah books and what i wanted to show you was the military parades that were taking place in the big cities we can see how everyone used to go out to the balconies and watch the parade and you can also see the streets the familiar streets of jerusalem this is king george street for example taken in 1950 and capturing independence day celebrations picnics and barbecues that go back decades in addition to acquiring land kkl jnf built reservoirs rehabbed rivers prepared for housing and is probably best known for planting trees here we have photographs taken in martyrs forest this is a forest that was planted in the early 1950s it has 6 million trees planted in to commemorate the 6 million jews who perished in the holocaust according to senai it's estimated there were around 14 000 trees here when the ottoman turkish empire ended more than 100 years ago starting 1908 we started trying to plant trees here and nowadays we're talking about over 240 million trees planted all over israel there's also historic jerusalem a photo overlooking the city from the mount of olives the distribution of pasteurized milk to babies the railway station from 1927 and the western wall in 1941 as well as photographs of tiberius on the sea of galilee pioneers building agricultural communities called kibbutzim and moshavim and glass plate negatives used before the gelatin kind so this was taken in 1924 and this is tel aviv you can see the sand so it really is a city that rose from the sands throughout each year kkl jnf shares its historical highlights at exhibitions like this one in jerusalem we're displaying photographs two and a half meters wide historical photographs of jerusalem that were colorized kkl jnf says many times when we look back at black and white photos we tend to think the past was without color but what they've done in this exhibit is use innovative colorization technology along with research into the culture and fashion of the time to color the photos and breathe new life into history an exhibition also took place recently at the international expo in dubai many of the photos are now digitized and the archive can be viewed online in hebrew and soon will be available in english it currently has more than a million photos and like the state itself is still growing chris mitchell cbs news jerusalem when you see these old photos you get the narrative of the modern state of israel and that narrative goes directly against all the propaganda coming out of the palestinian authority that somehow the jews took the land what happened is the jews bought the land from the turks from the ottomans the the arabs that were living there were actually subservient they didn't own the property the ottomans did and so the jews come in and they buy the land and then they start to build and boy did they ever build all you have to do is look at the old photos of tel aviv and then any kind of modern photo of tel aviv and you understand the transformation truly miraculous can a nation be born in a day well yes that day was in may 1948 but it took a lot of effort over many decades to build the modern state of israel and congratulations to them and congratulations to those who are keeping the records and the photos to prove the growth sherry kemp believes in the power of prayer when her doctor told her she needed a knee replacement she said no thanks and have a nice day sherry had the faith to believe for his supernatural healing that's because she'd already received one miracle and now she was expecting another it was frustrating because i couldn't do the things i wanted to do you know like swim and exercise and pick up my grandchildren when they were younger sherry kemp led a healthy active life until a few years ago when a debilitating and painful shoulder injury began limiting her mobility as i've gotten older it's gotten progressively worse i couldn't sleep on my right shoulder lifting plates even small amount of weight would hurt sherry grew up in church and always believed in healing but despite her prayers the pain persisted i've been praying for healing for a long time a very long time and you know god has a reason for everything so i just keep believing i don't give up in april of 2022 sherry turned on the 700 club i watched the 700 club typically every day if possible i've been a member for a long time and gordon was speaking uh about right shoulder pain there's someone you heard the report about the right shoulder and you're saying right shoulder you too have your left hand touching that shoulder across your body god has just healed and you just felt that presence that joint is now loose and you can raise your arm all the way up just do it right now in jesus name the pain went away and i was moving my arm all over you know moving it back and forth i could never put it behind my behind my back and i i can you know now i can do everything i mean it's just amazing since that day i've had full range of motion and no pain whatsoever i'm able to exercise lift weights swim which i do as much as i possibly can since then she says the lord has healed her in several other areas as well when i went to the doctor he was telling me i needed a knee replacement and i said no thank you have a nice day and i came home and i prayed you know and i said god you made me you can heal me my knee is fine now i just try to listen to him and what he's directing me to do we only have one body we have to take care of it so that he can use us for our purpose in life jerry continues to lead an active life and wants to share what jesus has done for her with everyone she can i can see him working not in just my life but in people around me you know and i just pour into people god pours into me and so i know that i have to overflow into others so that they can receive what god has for them as well i want to leave a legacy of love inspired by the lord god i want everyone to know what he did in my life [Music] well sherry is also leaving a legacy of faith and i hope that's touched you today as you're contemplating what would i like god to heal or to do in my life to set in order to make right you know she is right god you made me you can heal me i think that kind of simple faith moves the hand of god we want to stand with you today for whatever your need might be we want to pray together with you with the kind of faith that sherry prayed where she just expected god to do something miraculous we expect god to do something miraculous for you today and i want to say we're going to share a couple of other stories with you of people who've been healed just to build your faith you don't have to have your condition mentioned to be healed you know when when god's healing power is flowing you just reach out and grab it for yourself doesn't mean we have to say whatever your condition is believe that and receive that i want to tell you about diane she lives in villarreca georgia she woke up one morning and discovered she wasn't able to move her right shoulder she was in a great deal of pain so she turned on this program hoping that god would heal her during the prayer time sure enough as gordon prayed he said someone else has a frozen shoulder and you're saying please say that so i'm saying frozen shoulder is just for you it's your right shoulder do what you could not do before lift your arm up and realize the pain is gone right now diane said she knew this was for her and she was healed instantly here's 84 year old melba of louisiana she when she back when she was nine years old she started having problems with chewing on her right side while watching this show she heard terry say there's someone else your job you have pain almost chronically you can't eat things you want to eat god is healing that for you right now everything is being set back in order as it was before you're released well melba received the word and rejoiced she ate a waffle hallelujah i like waffles and for the first time in 75 years was able to chew on the right side without any problem that's a miracle god wants to work miracles and he wants to use you to do that isn't that great he wants to use you now if i were god i'd use the angels but i'm not god he likes to use his children he wants to flow through you yeah sherry got that she got her healing then when she got a bad report about her knee and you need knee replacement she says no i'm not gonna i'm not going that way i know i know what to do i'm gonna go back to daddy and he is going to heal this let's do that let's go back to daddy where did your breath come come from it came from him and because you have that breath in your lungs you're able to speak his word and his word in your mouth is just as powerful as it is in his mouth when you get that when you get hooked up with god and realized his power can flow through you all you have to do is announce it well then you get it then you get it believe in your heart that you have already received and you will have it these are the words of jesus it's the key to miracles believe it believe the good news believe he died for you believe he rose again believe that that same resurrection power is within you believe and speak i believed in my heart therefore i spoke let's do that right now let's believe let's pray let's speak healing over ourselves now let's pray lord god almighty we come to you and we ask for the infilling presence of your holy spirit that your breath would be upon us would be in us would be all around us and with the authority given to us as believers in you as the children of the most high god with that authority we speak your word your word says that you forgive all our iniquities and you heal all our diseases so we speak out loud over our bodies be healed in jesus name be restored now blood pressure come down pain inflammation go away all arthritis leave me the aching joints ache no more in jesus name uh there's someone your name is tom you're laying hands on both of your knees they're swollen they're achy it's very difficult for them i believe you got punched in the face and and it it cracked in in jesus name all of the bone is being healed and you just felt all that pain leave you in the name of jesus you're whole your sinuses are whole everything is whole everything is healed now we break the trauma of the injury off of you now let there be joy in in your heart joy all around you in jesus name lord we thank you we thank choked to death and my heart at that time was just i mean it was just broken there was nothing but death on the inside of me the only bright spot in that time was when victoria now 18 received a bible from a family friend she agreed to read it every day however it wasn't until a year later that the truth of god's word began to sink in she was crashing in the hotel where her dad was staying and couldn't sleep my dad wakes up and he's like what's wrong all these thoughts swirling through my my head you know like of the bible and i was like i got to do something different man i don't want to be like this and i don't want my kid growing up in this the last words that my dad told me before he kicked me out of the hotel room was jesus can't save nobody and i was at a point in my life where i just didn't believe that no more on the streets with nowhere to go victoria again heard a voice a different voice that said go to the church my shoes broke i literally just broke down in tears and i was just like devil giving up is not an option i'm not doing this anymore in that moment i felt like that's when i destroyed my contract with him when she reached the church doorsteps victoria fell to her knees and cried several church members arriving for the service asked if she was okay i said no i'm 19 years old i'm three and a half months pregnant i'll have nowhere to go this lady walks up to me and she goes honey do you need me to take you somewhere and in that moment that's when i started to recognize that that was god's voice and i surrendered that was it like i was okay god this is it you want me to serve you you want me to give my life to you i'm here i am those that stopped helped victorian to the church where she gave her life to christ her opioid addiction the demonic influences and lies she believed about god and herself began to shatter i started to realize that he was a loving god and he was a father and he was there all along i'm ready to do whatever you want me to do because what i did before was not working the church sent her to a women's shelter before she eventually landed at a retreat in texas for victims of domestic abuse there her faith grew and she gave birth to her healthy son nehemiah she's now studying social work and living a full life with christ at the center i don't have to escape anything when i have an issue i run to god and i say lord what do we need to do i am saved i am healed i didn't care about nothing else but what the lord wanted to do it changed my life forever boy that last comment by victoria is one for all of us when i have something that's an issue i run to god you know her life before that a lot of darkness a lot of demonic activity some of you may be dabbling with that or maybe have allowed that into your life you know you don't have to stay there you can do exactly what she did you can come and be free you can come under the loving arm of jesus who died to set us free of all of our sin all of our sin satan is out to separate us from god he wants to he makes promises oh great contracts and agreements but in the end in the end he destroys because that's that's what he does but god gives life and it's never ever too late to come to him and to do what she did just get down on your knees before the living god the creator of all that is the one who holds the power to set you free to heal you to guide you to teach you to love you you know sometimes i mean she had a horrific childhood how do you love god how do you even begin to think about that when someone has said such wicked things to you treated you so badly but there's something about the love of god when it begins to unfold itself around us that touches us deep in that wounded hurt place inside and we know it's different you know right now i just want to encourage you come to jesus see that on the cross he didn't just hang there his arms were outstretched and they were outstretched because the price he paid was for all of us for you too whether you accept him or not it was paid for you you can be free of everything that has hampered you hurt you harmed you in any way and start a brand new life and it doesn't matter how many years you've been into what you've been into or how far into it you've gone right now you can just come to the lord and ask ask forgiveness ask his presence ask his peace let's do that let's do
