all right we're back on the 79 series i know it's been a while been away had christmas had heaps of staff off and everybody's been asking me what's been going on with the 79 series well we've got some exciting news in this episode so we're going to do a bit of a recap going to run around let you know what we're up to what we've done and what new bits that we're actually going to be putting on so i've got a bunch of stuff that i want to show you through as we get a bit of a walk around a bit of a chat now where we left off last time was the diff as you know we pulled the diff out with Greg and the diff lock didn't work and also we found a ton of metal in the bottom of the pan of the of the diff housing we've sent it out it's come back now believe it or not they said that there's no teeth missing there was no bearings blown or anything like that no sign of really where the metal come from they did check out the diff lock and it actually did work so our problem is still a mystery problem yet to be found they've rebuilt the diff head for me put all new bearings and everything in for me the actuator is still the same actuated in there and it works they did however change the crown wheel and pinion not because that it was anything broken but it was heavily worn so it was probably time to to do that so big thank you to 360 for getting that done for us especially over the christmas period and coming in everybody's come back busy same as us so we'll get that in we won't show you the boring details of actually bolting it all in we'll actually quickly go around and see so when we actually put the diff in we're going to take the opportunity and change all the wheel bearings make sure everything's all good if they're perfect and they only need to be re-greased then we're not going to turn around and actually replace them we'll just re-grease them and as part of that obviously we'll get there we'll put the new brakes on which is one of the exciting things i wanted to chat to you about we've got the new Powerstop brakes going on and we're actually replacing all four corners all my they call them the brake discs they've all got lips on them and there's one thing you should know about discs by the time you send them out and have the machine most of the time they're going to be undersized or it's actually cheaper to turn around and put brand new discs on so we've got a brand new set of brakes that we're going to be putting on not today i'm just going to show you around it so we're putting and if we're going to do that we're going to put brand new calipers on new shoes the whole lot been looking forward to getting all the items that i've ordered off the power stop i've never actually seen these before but i've heard some big things about them and they've got everything we got brake shoes we got the whole lot but get a load of this now i actually opened up i probably shouldn't but how is that for a brand new rear disc that is just insane i know that these discs they are so accurately machined these are actually just like paint protected so they don't rust so they're done extremely well if you read it it turns around here you go there obviously they're a vented disc but they're also multi-directional so it doesn't matter they've got a slotting design for improving paddle feel and a stronger life now my rear discs don't have any slots in them at all the brakes on these things are the best times are horrid now i've got a a double we call a double diaphragm brake booster which gives me a much better brake feel but still needs it too so i went got the good stuff i've been waiting for these for a little while so i'm glad that they've come in the front disc is exactly the same i've got new calipers going on if i put this up here what else have i got get a load of this oh new titanium hat hey does it make me look any better Craig's shaking his head no all right Camraman Craig's not helping me here at all handbrake shoes if anybody knows anything about handbrakes on a 79 series the only way you'll ever get a 79 series handbrake to last is to put a little tag on it that says do not use that's true try it it does work me i have an automatics i have parks so it does actually work when you're in all the mud and grind and the grit doesn't take long but cop-a-load of these these are actually beautiful they're actually um radiusly ground to match the the dish that we're putting on and anti-corrosion coating and everything they're actually brilliant i love them some of the things i've actually seen and this is what i wanted to see these are the new brake shoes now these new brake shoes are actually they're a titanium infused ceramic brake pad i thought kevlar was a good thing now apparently this titanium infused ceramic advancements in technology have actually been insane every year there is new gear coming out there is all sorts of technology they are insane still in the packet but we'll open them up when the time comes we'll get in and have a bit of a look-see but titanium-infused ceramic brake pads all right enough of brakes because i want to make sure we keep on moving along we'll show more when we get these actually installed and i certainly give you a recap when we get out and actually on the road and actually get it done obviously you all know the story last time i was out and about went up to the Kimberley had a bit of an upset i was towing a camper and i made the fatal mistake is that i'd actually run out of fuel getting in and out of the car to refuel the car because we were so remote my knee bumped the brake remote i actually turned the brake all the way down on the camper turned it off completely come around the corner i was going a little bit quick hit the brakes only to find out i had no trailer assist ABS going off virtually turn my brakes on come in hit a bit of a ditch and the dish was newly washed out ditched so it wasn't like a gentle bump it was actually square edged gone in hit it bounced up the impact of the car trying to stop in the ditch and the trailer coming the other way obviously constantine the car a little bit i ended up with a bent chassis only mild but bent chassis is the bent chassis bent me toe ball hitch damaged with front diff housing some suspension damage up there and that had to get it all fixed it's all been done so recap we got all the new chassis plates on when they straighten the chassis i was a bit surprised that like they didn't want to actually strengthen it in any way they were just like well part of the insurance we just straighten it it's right to go to me that's compromised so and this is something that i probably should have done years ago knowing what i was going to do with the car now these chassis plates made in Queensland i'll put their link up now so you can actually see where they come from they normally use it when they do it like chassis extensions and everything like that but he was very very gracious to let me know that i could borrow a set now this is actually the short one on this side it's all been welded in by a crew and there's a much longer plate on the inside that actually comes all the way down into here and there they're great i've got so that's the main thing to make sure i got all the confidence back in the car which i have done the Koni shocks are on i love them to death death finally got them on the front as well so they're all brand new the new turbo is on now we've been letting the exhaust drip for three months all right well that's a bit of a worry that certainly explains the smoke as soon as the exhaust heats up all of this is just getting burnt all the way through so all right that's the smoke literally it is still dripping after three months so i'm not sure what to do then some people would say just put it on it'll actually burn it all out other people say and replace it or even see if we can clean it very hard to clean i mean how do you get oil out of a muffler yeah you can hang it up but i'm not sure that you get the whole lot out so that's a challenge we're going to do that as we walk around the car going this way all the panels are fixed all nice and shiny we've got new new sign writing on it over a few of the dents we didn't fix anything that didn't have to do with my little incident we replaced all the front suspension as i said the new Koni's are in we've got all the new Jmax arms on not that nothing actually happened to the Jmax arms it was just it was precaution and the company that was actually fixing all the front end they just demanded that the arms were replaced as a matter of they had to guarantee that nothing fell apart i guess so and they were good they put the same arms on that i had on there in the first place so that all worked out really well you know a car's been sitting around the workshop way too long when there's an extension cord coming out of the bonnet that means that there's a trickle feed and once every week or every couple of weeks the guys will turn around and put the extension cord on to charge all the batteries up on here look how do you still haven't had to manage to clean the car underneath the bonnet only the outside's been done on all right we'll keep walking around obviously my beloved bullbar the Offroad Animal bar i love this thing to death i deliberately had it made like this with the patina because i wanted that look i wanted the real rough rugged and the raw as forged look is what i've said this is actually clear coated i wouldn't even let them sand blast it or do anything before they did it so yours will come painted properly yeah not like mine i turned around and said no is even marks here from when they were doing it because this was actually a development one there's actually little paint marks in there with arrows and bits and pieces and little updates that they wanted to do and i just said paint over the whole lot don't want them to touch it and i just love the look each to their own but we kept going around all the all the front wheel bearings have been done all the hubs we actually had to change both of the stub axles on both sides not because they were bent simply because when you sink the car in water especially with us filming a lot you go in there you sit in the water everything cools down and it just sucks the water in past the seals there's nothing you can do about that yes the diff and i've had people make comments that are but you don't you have a breather on your diff well that does the second well the center section of the chamber of the diff but it doesn't help you in the wheel parting which is the stub axle part all right those seals there's no breather in that section all right so if you are going to do a water crossing make sure you do actually cool down let it cool down before you do the run in and not only that don't park in it for five minutes like i normally do just straight in and out the other side and you won't have half the trouble problem is i get halfway through the producer calls you know stop back up do it again wait sit there wait while we're getting Graham or Shaun or someone else in and that and before you know i'm sitting in the river for 20 minutes while the cameraman are running around and the whole time my hubs are cooling down so of course new new bearings after every single trip and probably a stub axle every year just because it gets pitted and just rusted out and i'll get down here now now i've got more than one set of exciting news obviously i've been as keen as mustard to get me hands on something that i actually ordered three or four months ago not long ago actually after we filmed the last episode i was telling the boys that i wouldn't mind changing out the intercooler and the radiator simply because over the years of copping just damaged seeds after season how many times can you flush out a radiator with a gurney before it all starts to fall apart so i put an order in with PWR for a brand new radiator and an intercooler and i just can't wait so i'm gonna with you this is the first time i haven't actually seen it before so we're gonna have a crack see if i can i've only just partially do these things come so well packed Cameraman Craig's trying to help me here we go let's not let's not close this i love their foam blocks so what is this this is obviously oh wow i did not know i move that out of the way give me a bit of a bench top here i wasn't going to open it but i am because when you have an exciting new toy not only do you want to open it but you want to open it carefully just to make sure i'm sure Craig will speed this up a little bit for you but we're going to experience this together it's just like Christmas all over again not Christmas as an adult, Christmas as a child and it really means something wow this thing's mega wrap this will help will go a lot faster actually if i had my glasses on oh you got some wiring i didn't actually know that's all right thanks for that though i didn't actually know that this come with thermo fans so this is actually a whole new experience for me now one thing i will say there's a reason why i chose PWR and that is because i know them well we've actually been dealing with them for years in as much as our all of our transmission coolers they're also made by PWR i know the extent that they go to to test and develop and we're not talking about oh just a little development this is car this is a company that deals with racing car teams all over the world high end their test facilities are second to none that's why they're coming from all over but get a load look at this this is a top mount intercooler i deliberately wanted a top mount i certainly didn't want an upfront mount in a cooler because i wanted something that would fit straight in i wanted something that obviously this has got an automatic in it and i want my coolers and everything else up the front i don't want to hinder anything i don't want to hinder the radiator and that this is an enormous bit of kit when we first started thinking about putting intercoolers on cars this is going back many years when we first did the six speeds and we were doing contracts for other people we actually tested three or four different intercoolers on dynos because we had to prove because of the contract that we're doing with turbo upgrades and everything we had to do one step at a time prove it and then go to the next step when we got to the intercoolers we put two or three different ones on there and you know we didn't go and gain a single horsepower all right we run PWR back then and they were the only ones that were actually honest with us at that time that they turned around and they said that the intercooler on the car is actually pretty good it's going to take some technology to turn around and beat the original one and they've done exactly that this is a weapon and i'm not just saying that i had to do an awful lot to get this and saved up some coin now they didn't come to me i've gone to them so this is an honest thing where i've gone to them and i've always wanted one and i didn't get one if they couldn't do one or make one that was that good i wasn't going to try so anyway that was one of the things i'm going to move on not on too much on it but get a lot of that that it's almost too good to go on my car i reckon that almost needs to go in the trophy cabinet not actually in the car so i'll knock this down here and i'll put that there on because i believe there's more to this puzzle oh look at that like our guys they over pack everything this is huge everyone's wrapping are they one in one one box this is insane oh we're going to need to open that girl up too sorry but i need to see it now let's see what we've got i'll be so careful with this tell you what whoever wraps their stuff back at their their dispatch area needs a trophy like my god look at that look at this wow hey have a look at that it isn't going to stay this shiny for long i can assure you of that but look at that now i'm only changing mine simply because of all the the damage i've done to it this doesn't actually have a um a port in it for doing automatic transmissions we still got our coolers on the front which are actually PWR but they're our own kits um so i can't wait to get this in i'll be calling on greg soon enough i think to give me a hand but the intercooler we had to do because i don't know if i mentioned to you before i mentioned again greg actually found a crack in my intercooler and i was gutted but when we went in there to have a look at the amount of seeds and the amount of stuff the amount of rivers that i'd gone through the amount of stuff that had washed in through the top vent and got all in the it's just impregnated from top to bottom with stuff so best thing to do is actually replace them but i wanted to replace them with something that was meaningful to me now oh another thing we've got going on with this girl and that is somewhere in here i have one of these okay it's a steering wheel from PVS now a lot of you guys obviously know have seen this if you've got a 79 series then you know all about these steering wheels already all right there's different patterns there's different colors there's kevlar ones and whatever else now but what makes this one so special two things one i don't know about you guys please leave a comment is anybody else out there a serial channel changer of their radio and with a 79 series you've got nothing these things are in the dark ages when it comes to technology especially based on how easy it is to use stuff i have a touch screen upgrade on mine so basically mine's got the hi-lux display on mine for the radio and you can't drive and touch no so look at this i can do all my radios i can do everything but the second thing flappy paddles that's something you're not going to see much on the 79 series why because it only suits the automatic transmissions we are going to try and make these work with me automatic so we got this steering wheel and um Jamie at PVS was was really good he was really great he listened to us and he said that he thinks that his kits will work so he sent me down a flappy paddle one which will bolt straight on it'll work straight away we just got to get our computer for the transmission tuned into these paddles which we can do but we just haven't done it before so we just got to work it out and get it all happening than that right and we'll start offering it as a as an option so if you have our current sports and pro COMPUSHIFT we might have a new update or upgrade coming for you if you actually want to you can choose the thing on the steering wheel you just buy them direct off the PVS there or we might even if we get the ones deliberate ones actually done we might even put them on our own line and start doing them down here so now i'd get more of this done we'd be more along the line of getting more stuff done if it wasn't for the fact i'm relying on Greg yeah Greg like me he's getting on he's got a lot more hair a grey hair than me but you know he's good i can't rely on him all the time to do stuff so we get ahead and do stuff we are so busy with so much other stuff that we're also looking for a new mechanic so if you know someone or if you're interested in changing the trade you know half of my guys are truck mechanics come over and some of them like automotive mechanic they come from all walks of life the common interest is four wheel drives so if you have an interest in four-wheel drives you're handy on the tools and you want to have a crack and you want to work here please jump on here's the link give us a call and you never know you could be helping me fit all of this in the car so we'll go from there now i think that's it for this episode so please like subscribe and we'll see you in the next episode come here i'm not saying this is all your problem now but most of it is have fun with that try not to leave anymore no fingerprints on the shiny stuff what shiny stuff it's all what do you...
