engineer reading comments with my father and my AP Physics class both inspired me to make a change using both math and science I transferred to Illinois tech as a third year and immediately joined student organizations I found my closest friends in the National Society of black engineers and the black student union now I serve as a student leader helping those who are once in my shoes adjust student leadership has been an amazing experience for me seeing students make new friends and having a good time Fosters a sense of family within the university as a leader the students I help continue to push me to be better my peers inspired me to apply for the accelerated master's program this gave me an opportunity for an internship at NASA's jet propulsion laboratory working on an interplanetary space flight Mission working at JPL was a dream come true and it wouldn't have been possible without the help of my student orgs my time at Nasa and as a student leader have grown my Technical and interpersonal abilities far more than I could imagine I'm truly grateful to the school and the student also helping me pave my way to a successful future I've been blessed with an opportunity to further my education to the fullest The Accelerated master's program made my internship possible the student Community helped me adjust and become a great leader and the faculty helped me find my passion thanks to the combination of these experiences I'm confident that I have what it takes to elevate my future that's me in a nutshell over to you Alex [Music] that is so cool Seth do Joel an architecture student from a smaller town felt right at home from day one let's hear about it [Music] thanks Alex so I'm originally from Omaha Nebraska and when it came time for me to look at colleges I knew that I wanted to stay in the midwest having been to Chicago a few times being fascinated with the city's architecture and history I decided to narrow down my search to universities in the area after visiting Illinois tech I knew it was the right school for me one of the things that really drew me into Illinois tech was the balance between location and size of Campus Army's campus designed by a pioneer of modernist architecture is 120 acres and sits just about 10 minutes south of the loop by train which students have access to through a u-pass my freshman year I lived in a residence hall that was mere feet away from an entrance to the green line one of my biggest concerns coming into college was potentially feeling drowned out in a sea of lots of other students fortunately the small class sizes at Illinois tech and especially the small cohorts within the College of architecture helped me make connections with other students and form collaborative support networks that provided a nice break from the stress of architectural forces and the hustle and bustle of the city and being among the top 60 National universities with the highest campus ethic diversity with International students representing over 16 percent of our undergraduate population students come to Illinois tech eager to Branch out there's plenty to do in the city in your downtime my interest in Computing Illinois tech offered the academic opportunities and student Community I was looking for as a first generation college student the idea of higher education felt overwhelming I wasn't sure of how to maximize my time at Illinois tech my academic advisor encouraged me to apply to the accelerated master's program and I was accepted to the Cyber forensics and security truck this ended up being the perfect fit for me I was greeted by a program that is challenging and professors have strived to make the content exciting through my classes I met students from different countries and cultures each with unique perspectives to learn from affording education was another concern of mine founded with a mission to provide a relevant college experience that is Affordable for all tech has always had an influential position in my life with my dad once being Professor here I spent most of my summer sitting in his office peering outside his window watching students walk by little did I know that one day I would be one of them in my opinion one of the most fascinating aspects of a university has to be your interprofessional projects program also known as ipro ipro classes bring students of all different Majors along with faculty and Industry professionals together to solve real world issues whether that be working with robots or designing greenhouses there's an exciting project for every student to work on I believe this program truly allows students to find their passion gain leadership skills and truly learn to innovate to solve real world problems take me for example last year I took a course called social Innovation design and I got the chance to create and Lead my own group in a project after I finish the course I recruited a larger team composed of all University undergrad students stemming from engineering Applied Mathematics economics and computer science from there we spent weeks researching and interviewing professionals to truly develop our idea into something with more impact and meaning and once we establish that we decided to create our very own startup company our company is called Square One and our goal is to create a web application to help connect minority homeless youth in the Chicago area with local resources with the help and support of the University my team and I are currently in the process creating the very first prototype of the app it it's truly amazing to think that our hard work and effort while still being students has the potential to create such a positive change in the world that's all from me everyone I am Teja suthar here at Illinois tech originally from India to advance my skill set I decided to pursue my master's degree in field of food process engineering one of the collaborative course offered here at Illinois tech the engineering program not only teaches us theoretical concept but also teaches us how to incorporate the knowledge in a practical way we have access to Institute of food safety and health a highly equipped laboratory as well as food processing plant where we can use machines like high pressure processing and other equipments to process different types of food products I have worked on some of the interesting topics verification technique edible insect and artificial milk did you know artificial meat is made in Illinois Tech's very own laboratory the lab grown meat is Created from a single animal cell and by this way we can actually produce tons of milk isn't that amazing another unique thing about Illinois tech is its partnership with the U.S Food and Drug Administration which provides a chance for students to work on special projects with an FDA scientist research position at Illinois tech are easily accessible faculty member will connect you merged both of these areas of study is exactly what I sought to do Illinois tech has always been a university that I wanted to attend because of its I.T and computer science programs as a High School freshman I knew that attending one of Illinois Tech's pre-college Elevate programs will help change the trajectory of my life after receiving my bachelor's degree in information systems I knew that I was missing a great piece forensics Illinois tech incorporates Computing across its curriculum and once I came across Illinois Tech's Masters and I.T forensics and security I knew that I have to go after this opportunity alumni Tech met my criteria of being flexible by offering graduate level Computing classes both online and on campus Illinois tech has by far exceeded my expectations with the tools and projects provided by professors I actually have fun taking a final to top it all off Illinois tech offers programs which help minority groups studying tech one program being wisest Weiss problems but ID has actually offered me lenses to look at the complex system and reflect on why we do what we do I think it's much more than a design school it is actually a supportive Community made up by a group of talented passionate and inspiring human beings who are drawn together to address the most challenging issues of our time being surrounded by this group of amazing designers and system thinkers I felt the urgent need to step out of my comfort zone earlier this year I teamed up with five other ID students and participated in the Rockman design challenge an annual business design competition with the mentorship of our experienced ID professors who were able to combine the human-centered design and business strategy to create our final proposals our proposal was to reach a new market segment through viable Innovation concepts for the biggest retail chain in Canada as an outcome we were placed second among the pull of 39 student teams across the globe grad school is not only a place for academic achievement but Career Development as well I did provide great resources to connect us with a wide range of organizations industry professionals through externships career ID workshops recruiting events and most importantly the strong and engaged Alumni network after ID I will be working as a ux designer at a global kitchen and bath company on the seven person experience team actually three of us are from The Institute of Design ID is not only a label to unlocking job opportunities but also the foundation of my confidence to make an impactful difference in my future students too it's an award given to the winner of an exciting competition where law students test their skills as trial attorneys Illinois tech is home to Chicago Kent College of Law one of the best law schools in the country and law student Zoe is a recent Top Gun she says Chicago Kent's combination of exceptional professors foundational education and real world experiences have helped her land her dream job foreign [Music] thanks Alex hi everyone when I was looking for a law school I had three priorities cost practical trial skills and location it was hard for me to find a law school that prioritized all three but when I Found Chicago Kent I knew I hit the jackpot Chicago Kent is in the heart of downtown Chicago and it's surrounded by top law firms from around the globe from day one I was told that I would learn practical legal skills that I could use as soon as I started working in the legal field and my professors were right I immediately learned skills like legal research and trial advocacy skills that I now use every day as a law Clerk and as a summer associate after my first year at Chicago Kent I joined the trial advocacy team and I learned how far those skills could take me Chicago Ken's team is ranked third in the country by U.S news and with good reason our eight teams are coached by practicing attorneys and sitting judges from around the country many of whom are Chicago Kent alums everything I've learned about litigation I've learned from my amazing coaches and advocacy professors I was chosen to compete in the hardest Mock Trial Competition in the country Baylor School of laws Top Gun 2021 after only having 24 hours to prepare both sides of a case by myself I managed to beat all 15 of the top advocates in the country and took home the title of Top Gun for Chicago Kent since my first year at Chicago Kent I've grown into a polished and passionate trial Advocate luckily I'll be starting as a trial Attorney At a large civil defense firm here in downtown Chicago after graduation practical skills that I learned at Chicago Kent made all the difference and I'm so proud to be a CK student that's my story back to you Alex [Music] thank you if I years jobs I've hated I started volunteering at the Adler Planetarium going back to my old love of space exploration while an eternity leave I watched the Falcon 9 land on the of course I still love you drone ship and I knew I had to be part of that world Illinois tech was the only school in Chicago that offered what I wanted in aerospace engineering The Faculty here care about your success and they know who you are my professors have been incredibly understanding when issues arose with my young daughter Zoe or when I was diagnosed with cancer without my professors I wouldn't be a usra scholar a NASA space Grant recipient or a Brooke Owens fellow without them I wouldn't have worked on the largest aircraft in the world over the summer at strata launch or started working toward my private pilot license thanks to the support of this school I was able to start Illinois tech rocketry a team of students who wanted to get their hands dirty and build Rockets within six months we put up the school's first high-powered rocket we have a small space now but future students will be able to build bigger and fly higher because what's the point of carving a path if others can't follow I am all about space exploration be it building Rockets or working on Space habitats I want to be part of the future I want other moms to see what I've done and follow their dreams I want to show my
