Cubase Einsteigerkurs Teil 5, Projekt sortieren, #025
after we recorded all of our midi tracks in audio tracks last week , we want these week to bring some order to our project so that we can start mixing. well, have fun! yes hello and welcome to the tips and tricks for all things music with rico. these week we want to bring some order into our system. so we'll go straight into ours project and don't linger long. so let's go to the pc! yes we have already arrived at the pc. so now we can also see the status of ours here
project. we have colored the individual midi tracks in blue. so pink in audio tracks here colored, all recorded individually, including all of our percussion instruments yes, we had separated according to channels, we recorded individually and now we can bring some order into this system, because first of all we want to remove the midi tracks here. But we don't want to delete them, we just want to move them into a folder. To do this, we go to this plus symbol at the top and we can look for a folder track as a track. I would like to assign midi tracks as a name. Add a track and I push this track myself times all the way up and now mark all my midi tracks by holding the control button.
so now we have it all. now click in the marked track and slide it now simply in this folder track Midi tracks until this green arrow appears here. and thus we have all midi tracks in one folder. The we can now close and we have
only our audio tracks in the project. so that we don't hear these midi tracks twice, let's mute them now. We mute. and thus Now when we play the project , we only hear our audio tracks. So now this is the raw data of our audio tracks and now we can use it start to sort all these traces a bit. i want here start with the drum tracks for me . It starts from here. i just want these drum tracks to be the first thing in my project.
I would like to mark these in color. my drum tracks are all blue. so now we have our drum tracks. as next i want to have the bass. The bass always gets the color for me yellow. and the next one can continue with the guitars.
so we have an acoustic guitar here, a ukulele, rhythm guitar. the guitars are evergreen with me. now we come next to the pads and strings. that was our e-piano. I'll slide this under this panpipe. I'm still writing to myself
in addition: melody voice. and here second voice, we will probably then at the final mix, if we have sung voices, we don't need them, but as support voices for the singing it may not be wrong at all. and we now have a reverse effect. We'll take it up with us. We don't need the playback itself at the moment. the can we mute it first. We no longer need our drum track.
So we have sorted our tracks for now . We are now forgiving for our votes who have not yet received a color, nor the corresponding color. so the other one can now leave accordingly. Here we forgot a synthesizer. we have again in this red area. so so now we have so our project is first sorted by color and can see beautifully based on the trace colors, which sounds are now where. in which group do you belong? now we can
start and can edit the individual tracks . and that is what we want now Cut out whole tracks accordingly, so that we have areas like here between the individual sounds are times when there is silence. I 'm just zooming into such a track here. So now we have areas where there is only silence and we want these now on the track, of course, cut free on all tracks first. so that there is no background noise at all are. So now I can grab my scissors tool here too , click with the right mouse button on the scissors, would like to have my grid switched on up here, in order to first cut roughly to the appropriate counting times or bars. so we see here
it always snaps into place at the appropriate beat. and we can go over now the control button and our scroll wheel naturally zoom in accordingly, so that of course we cut at a point where we have not yet caught any sound material. Important is that we have activated this symbol up here. namely find zero crossings. if we now cut here, then cut, if this symbol is switched on, then it cuts right in the valley. if we zoom in here now , he would never be here cut on a mountain, but it will always be here in the valley, where this line crosses the zero line goes through. at this point it would cut and thus we avoid any
then have cracking noises in our project. So zoom in again, you can now here to cut. can also cut behind it, if we now click the right mouse button again, we automatically have our selection tool. we are now marking the area that we are not want to have. press the delete key and we have taken the first step. So now we can go back on our scissors , cut here, can mark that, press the remove button and we have cut the next piece accordingly. we can of course do this automatically in larger cubase versions do. we can now take a look at this track, for example .
there is the area under audio, expanded, search for silence. so and there then opens a window where we can already see more precisely, aha here are our individual signals. this clap and everything in between is not selected. So he had indeed over the threshold already recognized correctly, where are my individual notes. I can now over increase this value
or reduce this value, I can limit it accordingly. so now we see I've raised the threshold so much and it doesn't recognize anything anymore. i go now back in the other direction, we have now recognized everything again. before these We still have different threshold values, so to speak . We have pre and post roll,
So how many milliseconds before or afterwards should the signal be determined. we see here he has determined 47 area here. we can tick here now, he should cut away silence. should do that automatically. we calculate and calculate and with that we have here our individual clapps are cut free and we also see that we have some space in front of it and everything is faded out long enough so that nothing of the sound is lost. and thus can we cut free here automatically. yes, and of course we would like to do that with everyone now do our tracks. So now cut everything free and if we have done that, then see
we'll meet again and continue with the next part . so let's go! so we have everything now cut free on traces. just as we would like. so now see our individual here sections. and now we would like to pre-mix the whole thing a bit, so that each voice gets its specific volume ratio roughly at first. so a little pre-mix or rough-mix, whatever you want to call it. yes press the f3 key and come with it in our mixer. now we have a lot of traces as you can see. so
many many traces and in our cubase version you can of course have us displayed here in front what we would like to have displayed. So the input channels of my interface, I don't need them for mixing now. can rausmachen the entire hook there so. now next we come to the midi tracks, of course we don't need them either. so you can take them out completely and so we have a little more overview in these tracks. yes we now have the option to create zones here . so we have now
here the stereo out, which I would like to have on the far right. thus something is also separated. and now we have all the traces we need here. so now we can go and first start our mix by saying, all traces we have here now, We'll just pull them all down first. except of course our stereo output always stays at zero db. this regulator will not touched. he stays where he is. and so we can go and as
first sort the tracks a little differently. so i want to now sort these drum tracks a little differently. so it should start with the base drum, then the snare and the clap. then i would like to have the toms. then would have the hi-hat. Then come the crash basin, shaker. look here is another snare that still belongs up here and a cowbell,
yes, we can actually leave them here at the shaker. so we sorted it out. we mark our bass drum and we now pull it here so to minus 10 db. we still want to have enough headroom, in order to then have a corresponding signal. so and now we start our project,
then we see the bass drum beating its quarters nicely, for on the floor. we can now start to edit the corresponding track, so we can now go to the channel settings here . and now see the signal from our bass drum here. yes and there it works Come on. we can of course start here first with a corresponding one filter to set. I would like to set a high pass filter here. the
I put it at the very edge of the low frequencies below 40 hertz here we have it even set 20 hearts, maybe we can even take that a little higher, to take that away and now we can use our bass drum of course shape accordingly. we can now click into this band here, can use this Q-factor to change the width of the filter quality, we have here the frequency we are currently at and now we have here strengthening or lowering. and so now I can adjust my sound accordingly to dye. of course we don't hear anything in this case and that's why it makes sense to us switch from the mixer view. we see now that we are already outside
from our project. just go to a place where this bass drum keeps playing. we see now it has this area that I have marked here, it has it here marked. we now switch to our cycle, with key 1 we jump to the at the beginning of this cycle. we can now observe that it bounces back again and this means that we can be sure that we will always receive our signal accordingly during processing available without suddenly, because nothing is being played in the song, then nothing can be heard. so we go back to ours by pressing the F3 key
Mixer. go here to this little "e", channel setting and can now here corresponding our Emphasis can shape that a little further. I would leave it like that now. and we can now next time ... we can now turn to the snare. we are now back in the channel settings, see now here in the range below 100 hertz doesn't mean much Snare. so we can also set our hi-pass filter. and then nothing can happen anymore. As I said, now we can still tweak the sound.
I would leave it like that for now. to can we now work our way through the tracks piece by piece. would be next do the next snare. we can then also start
add all the traces using the panorama regulator . i would now sometimes just mix the drums roughly. yes , our drum channels switch to solo. Of course, we have to find one area first search in which as many percussion instruments as possible play.
I think there is this area relatively cheap. let's go to the mixer with F3 we can then work our way through until of course we have the individual sounds of all tracks heard and roughly adjusted our mix for the first time. yes as you can see, stuck then but a lot of work in such a project. so we have now pre-sorted our tracks and now want to distribute all the tracks in the mix one after the other and the next video should then be about the individual effects for the individual tracks. So if
If you liked this video, I would of course be happy to give you a thumbs up. gladly subscribe to my channel and we'll see you next time. until then! Your Rico, Ciao
