i am engineer ronald tanchado academic supervisor of computer engineering program so i'll start with now with a description of the program what is computer engineering so computer engineering combines electrical engineering and computer science to focus on the design and implementation of computer systems usually this consists of logic devices and software or we can also say that we work with the hardware and the software part of a computer system so it is generally part of the engineering department of the university and for those students who are [Music] interested in the program um a requirement for an engineering course will be uh you know a strong background in mathematics so the you know the uh program in the university of san agustin computer engineering uh adheres to the uh policy standards and guidelines of the commission on higher education so right now we are following with the you know with the chat memorandum order number 87 for computer engineering series of 2017. [Music] so uh sh a brief uh go through with you know with the program the program is a four-year course so that is now for the new i know the new chat guideline and uh on the first year the courses are basically and uh more on the uh general education uh courses and uh foundation courses general engineering courses for uh i don't know for uh engineering students so mijo that you will be taking on the first year of the program later uh more advanced courses on electrical and electronic circuits will be the highlight of vienna the professional course in vienna of the computer engineering and [Music] more on the general uh general engineering uh courses introduced on the second year so the second year we do not japan and uh our curriculum will be more focusing on the professional forces on the third year of the program so as you can see in the slide we have here cpe courses so these are professional courses that you'll be taking before finishing the program so on the fourth chair we agreed on the design of the curriculum to lessen the you know the courses to be taken up uh the reason is for the student to focus on their uh terminal uh project that is cpe practice and design so bali you know a design course that you will need to comply before finishing the course but before that we have here an uh an ogt program before the start of your four chair so we have scheduled this on this summer and on-the-job training for the students to be able to immerse themselves with the industry so computer engineering uh will usually work with you know with other uh engineering discipline and if you want to focus more on and on specialization in computer engineering these are the different uh subfields that you can work on so computer engineering uh engineers also work with with computer vision so not necessarily i don't know robotics uh computer vision on the development such as face recognition technology image restoration or even gesture recognition so products right now such as cameras will usually uh have this uh technology embedded to their uh products for example the the closed circuit television technology and cctv are now improved so that it would include this several features vicinity of the you know the uh surveillance or we have here uh imagination also developed for basically uh image enhancement so a person can also be recognized by their and by their gestures so um this technology are also embedded on cameras and other similar products so another important uh subfield of computer engineering is to work with with computer networks so this is basically uh goes allied within with the electronics uh engineering that is on data communication so the main purpose of an of connecting our resources is our connecting our computer is to be able to share resources so when you say resources these are the anything that is uh of importance of relevance to a computer system such as your uh memory your processing power uh or even your screen or even your internet connection can be shared so the development of a system that would be efficient and uh would send data in a timely manner secured in timely manner is the main objective of this particular sub-field like for example in order for a certain uh data to be transmitted from one point to the other we always wanted to uh to find the shortest path between two points and uh algorithm are are studied in this program to be able to know to implement them into a computer instruction so the algorithm used for another for shortest path is dijkstra algorithm so another important thing about computer networks nowadays will be the convergence of the network so before when we say uh computer networks we are only referring to computers connected to each other right now uh interconnection of devices and computer are done only in one network such as a structured cabling implemented in a building so many companies right now are i don't know are making use of uh network uh lines or network computer network to be able to have their other system integrated in their computer network so not only your computers but this may include also your telephone system we have the bowep or voice over ip and other auxiliary devices that can be i don't know that can be uh integrated in a computer network so many advancements integrations and cctv system integration of uh air conditioning system lighting system all in one in one network so that is why we can also join the trend of i don't know of uh construction industry right now by going into this particular subfield so buildings that require uh them to be to be smart to be automated to be modernized so in order to make this and this uh uh structure to be intelligent so computers are are integrated into the system so next we have the another important subfield we have the embedded system so computer engineer may develop i don't know uh devices that will integrate a computer system on these devices so for example most many electronic system right now or i don't know are [Music] uh considered to be intelligent smart devices smart appliances smart buildings smart homes so these things are and are being controlled and monitored by a computer system so the trend right now is is uh the implementation of the internet of things imagine for example leaving your you know your house and still having uh control over your house having control in terms of i don't know of your appliances for example you want to you don't want to leave your uh refrigerator uh turned on while you are not in your home so there are other things that are integrated in these appliances a computer system which connects to the internet and allows the user to have a remote sensing and remote control of these appliances so actually the development is ongoing and it is being improved among things that are that that can be considered to be part of this internet of things so if you want later to i don't know to uh pursue on uh product development or if you have something in mind that you want to know to implement with this computer system then this particular subfield is very important and by the way uh computer engineering program at the university of san agustin have uh selected embedded system as as its uh specialization track for i don't know for the new curriculum so part of one of uh subfield is on the uh software and uh development of compilers and operating systems are also a concern of a computer engineer so by the way these compilers are and are our way of uh converting our instruction to a machine understandable instruction our computer is not a i don't know self um learning or we need to i don't know we need to give them a specific instruction on specific tasks to do that is actually what programming is all about so in order to instruct our computer on our instruction we need to compile these instructions to a machine understandable instruction which is usually represented by the binary numbers 1 and 0. now in order for a computer to be much more efficient an operating system is also being improved right now there are another are [Music] a lot of operating systems available through the generations of computer systems and voila some uh perfect operating system that would cater the anode the uh all the needs of the user usually there are some and some flaws and these things are being improved so common operating system used in computers are of course the microsoft windows and we have also the linux unix operating system now the development of artificial intelligence are also being delivered it's also a trend on the i don't know the uh software side of computer engineering now another subfield is a signal processing sensors can usually recognize analog analog signals now in order for us to process this analog signals to a computer system we need to convert this analog signal to a digital one and in that particular aspect so signals are are being analyzed and these are being sampled in order for it to be converted to a machine language so applications or artificial intelligence also like for example uh artificial intelligence uh embedded into uh [Music] human for example or not is part of the signal processing an image is an analog input signal to our computer and it is being processed by our computer and perform some algorithm to be able to identify for example a human face or uh otherwise so we have also speech recognition so the name application yes i don't know it's uh antonio system like we can see this more on and on our mobile devices in our mobile phone uh application for example if you don't want to know to type and you wanted only to [Music] talk so feeding on speech to text recognition so we have also the voice commands as an application for this signal processing so as part of our our objective the computer engineering program aims to partner itself with the uh industry and uh the main objective this is for us to have i don't know to have uh to have a partnership that could allow our student as well as faculty to be immersed with this uh industry so we have selected a few uh industry where we can immerse ourselves and our students so number one is we have the i don't know ongoing uh talk with another with uh more user a software development company so this is located in the cavity so they have developed uh systems such as document management system lend me a lending system healthcare go motion vaccination management system and i think where so we are contacting with our alumni so we these are the the core team of the company which are all the alumni of the computer engineering department they have formed they are another company and one way to give back to their not their roots is to invite us to become their partner so they offer an ogt program for students so since this is cavity located company they are currently working on a program which can be done online so this can this can be much more implemented we don't know with a software development so another one together with the electronics engineering we have also communicated we don't know with amcor a semiconductor company so this will allow us to not to be updated and immerse also with the embedded system on semiconductor um technology so i myself i am also i don't know i am also working out with a partnership of other companies that that meets myanmar uh personal uh professional requirement and a technology corporation located in vietnam so these are they are system integrators working with different companies such as shown on the screen so i myself is i don't know is uh working on an on uh system integra integration i am also a contractor and a technologist uh is also uh supplying me someone or some uh equipment that to the that is needed in my you know my projects they also give support and i don't know and uh we are initially tough and they are willing to be enough to be our partner so for diana the a team of computer engineering faculty we have here yours truly i'm a graduate of master of engineering and professional computer uh engineers so i am much more on uh interested on computer networks and data communication then we have engineer rexel sabran so engineers of run is a doctor of computer engineering and also a professional computer engineer and his specialization is on microprocessor and logic circuit system we have also the faculty engineer glenda s gwan son currently car only her master of engineering and also a professional computer engineer so he is specialized i'm assigning her on the research aspect of computer engineering and uh embedded systems so aj granson is also working with with remote sensing researchers such as air quality monitoring system and water quality monitoring system next we have here engineer marguerita g henner also part in master in engineering a professional computer engineer also and um he is assigned on the electrical and electronics courses and digital signal processing we have also dr stephen roy consulta doctor in industrial technology so dr consulta is specialized on computer networks also and data communication now we have one faculty currently a senior [Music] programmer in singapore so he is part-time initially part-time and uh willing to when returning here in ireland he will be willing to work full time with us he is mr duran raymar so he is a master in an information technology so we have also other uh reserve in a rooster we have uh engineer franco agudo i have that included here in the list and we have also uh engineer mark ayan alyoso so they help us filling up the gaps in the issue of lack of teachers so the computer engineering program have here the program educational objective so we want our graduates of computer engineering program to achieve this within five years after graduation so practicing engineers in computer engineering with the ability to engage into the other related fields both locally and globally so qualified certified professionals in computer engineering related areas that is firmly committed to ethical and sustainable development technically competent innovative and creative with effective communication skills and executing various computer engineering related tasks integrating social cultural augustinian attributes in their professional engineering board holders of key positions in both private and public offices with strong leadership and team spirit in their professional world okay computer engineering program is also preparing with with the limited face-to-face nexum and we have uh upgraded renovated our computer engineering laboratory currently we have uh purchased a 40 45 new computers but right now we have only installed several in order to give a safe distance between between uh seats so that is for compliance we don't know with uh covet guidelines so we have a structured cabling installed and [Music] system are in place right now in the computer ej so aside from from this academics computer engineering is also uh one to have i don't know um a close relationship and camaraderie with you know among you know its students and faculty so we don't know with uh before with face-to-face and uh meetings we are organizing an annual acquaintance party for us to know our our students as well as students knowing their classmates and their lower year and higher year students so aside from [Music] the party we have also i don't know we have we are also um [Music] organizing this i don't know this robotics competition and seminar so our main objective here is to demonstrate also by the students their knowledge in terms of robotics by assisting on the seminar to train uh senior high students and uh after the training we i don't know we [Music] have this robotics competition to demonstrate also the you know the uh knowledge skills acquired during the training so aside from that we also wanted our students to be actively involved on our professional organization right now we are active an active member of institute of computer engineering of the philippines so we i know by being a member institution of this and of this professional organization we can be able to join competition so we send our you know our students in the on the competition and uh also to demonstrate their their their skill on that particular event there is also regional and national assembly [Music] organized and we are updated here with the current trends and on the field of computer engineering now the icpap have also worked on the certification of computer engineers so once we are certified as computer engineers we can be we can now be called as engineers so as these are done by the professional organization for us to i don't know to have this uh title as we are still developing the i don't know the guidelines for the the uh certain uh certification by vienna by the prc so as uh you know as a result of last i don't know of icbf uh national assembly our students are have participated in programming and logic circuit design and pitching competition and we you know we get vienna the uh first starter up on the region six so this was another presented by our incoming fortune uh our fourth year student mr amada mr montalban in mr depositario so they are coached by engineer rexel sabran okay for now that's all
