nervous the world launches and all as technology speeds into the future right before our very eyes but it's the Dark Side of AI That's tonight's Prime Focus and our house was the funnest house I mean I would never I wouldn't want to be raised anywhere else except my house celebrated actor Marlon Wayans on his famous family is Major Hollywood Hits and much more thank you so much for streaming with us we're following those stories and much more including developments in the Idaho murder case the Warren is now being unveiled as we learn the lynx police wanted watching the suspect and the weapons they discovered plus the images we now have of that suspected explosive device found by TSA officers what a federal judge has now decided about the suspect behind the device plus protests in Greece's charges are filed against an official over the country's deadliest train crash our correspondents are fanned out across the country covering it all for us tonight we begin this hour in South Carolina where after six weeks of testimony a jury has found once prominent attorney Alec Murdock guilty of murder you can see the Stone Face Murdoch here as the verdict was delivered tonight guilty on all counts two counts of murder and two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime the week-long trial coming to a dramatic conclusion with the jury of seven men and five women reaching this verdict in just under three hours after the verdict verdict was escorted out of the courtroom in handcuffs and a short time ago out of the courthouse entirely on his way to prison our Eva Pilgrim who has covered this case from the very beginning reports tonight on the verdict and what comes next for Murdoch tonight a guilty verdict in the case that has transfixed this country the jury convicted Alec Murdoch for the murder of his wife and son who were shot to death outside the family's dog kennels the state versus Richard Alexander Murdoch defendant indictment for murder SC code 16-3-0010 CDR code 0116 guilty verdict Mr Murdock you now having been found guilty of two counts of murder involving your wife and your son two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime the unanimous verdict coming just three hours after the defense made its final case Murdoch 's team painting a picture of a botched investigation and saying Murdoch didn't have time to kill his wife Maggie and Son Paul and get rid of the evidence he's got 17 minutes 17 minutes he would have to be a magician to make all the evidence disappear the defense are for the murders that video captured the conversation of a happy family there's nothing on that tape that indicates there's any Strife any conflict any anger any planning the defense mocking the state's Theory the disgraced lawyer murdered his wife and son because he was about to be exposed for his financial crimes why why why without murdick on June 7th execute his son Paul and his wife Maggie who he adored and loved what do you think of the verdict Alec in the end the jury siding with the state he had no doubt that if we had a chance to present our case in a court of law that they would see through the one last con that Alec murdaugh was trying to pull and they did and we're so grateful for that our Criminal Justice System worked tonight it gave a voice to Maggie and Paul Murdock who were brutally mowed down and murdered on the night of June 7 2021 by someone that they loved and someone that they trusted we can't bring them back but we can bring him Justice Eva Pilgrim joins us now and Eva you've been in the courtroom for for several weeks now were you expecting a verdict this quickly from the jury you know we've been hearing from a lot of people here at the courthouse that they anticipated that this jury would move very fast on this case and a lot of the experts have told us that when a case goes this long you're usually the jury goes much quicker but less than three hours was very fast Lindsay and even it sounds like at this point he could spend the rest of his life in prison that's right there's a mandatory 30-year sentence for the charges that he is facing and you have to remember he's also facing charges for these Financial crimes that you heard him in court admitting to repeatedly case after case that he's also charged with as well our thanks to Eva there and now let's bring an M Wynn into the conversation who's also outside the courthouse there and we just heard from the prosecution a short time ago what else are you hearing from the courthouse so as of this time it appears that the heavy air around the courthouse has now been lifted now that we have this verdict of course you know it's been six weeks well over a month up until this point now coming to an end we know that the sentencing hearing is set for tomorrow morning at 9 30 local time which is Eastern Standard time we've also heard from the prosecution and the attorney general just coming out here a few minutes ago celebrating this verdict that came in just under three hours after the liberations had started the AG from South Carolina saying that here this case proves that no one no matter your societal position is above the law Lindsay all right and when our thanks to you now let's bring in ABC News legal contributor Shawna Lloyd Shauna were you surprised at all about just how quickly the deliberations came in no Lindsay I wasn't surprised this has been a very long trial they've had a lot of information but they've gotten it the state laid out its case bit by bit they went over every bit of evidence everything that was every aspect of this case very thoroughly and methodically and that jury clearly went in already understanding what their verdict was did the fact that this was a widely publicized trial changed the course of it do you think absolutely I think that when we look at a case like this that has far-reaching implications such as privilege you know all of this long-standing mysterious deaths around this family wrongdoing you know that always weighs in people do not want their Community to be seen as condoning this type of behavior or allowing this type of a murder to go unanswered so it absolutely is in the back of the juror's Mind sentencing of course is expected to take place tomorrow morning what do you expect to happen then is the judge is going to hear from the state the state may put forth aggravating factors he is then going to have to commit a sentence he's going to impose it upon him and later after that what we are going to see is an appeal this defense team is absolutely going to appeal this verdict all right Shawna Lloyd our thanks to you we'll come back to the story later on in the program let's go to other developing stories that have dominated the day's headlines including the Pennsylvania man suspected of trying to smuggle an explosive device onto a plane on Monday it appeared before a judge today where prosecutors laid out the timeline of their case and also revealed a picture of the alleged explosive material found in his suitcase ABC's Trevor alt has the latest from Allentown Pennsylvania tonight the Pennsylvania man accused of trying to smuggle an explosive onto a plane held without bail prosecutors alleging he created a level of danger that was simply astonishing authorities say Mark muffley was dropped off at Lehigh Valley International Airport 10 45 Monday morning they say he knowingly packed a prohibited explosive device inside that suitcase he's pulling with his left hand airport officials say he checked into his Allegiant Airlines flight to Orlando at 11 A.M his bag triggering an alarm during TSA screening just 18 minutes later and according to authorities they found this concealed inside the lining a circular compound wrapped in a wax-like paper and clear plastic wrap with two fuses attached one appearing to be part of the manufactured device the other added x-rays showing a powder consistent with a commercial grade Firework and also packed in the bag a can of butane a lighter and Lithium-ion batteries at 11 40 a.m less than an hour before his flight was supposed to take off security called for muffley over the airport PA system but at 11 45 investigators say security cameras captured muffley leaving the airport in their motion for his detention the government outlining muffley's lengthy criminal history including harassment theft and drug charges saying muffley's actions Monday seriously jeopardized the lives of airport workers and patrons and if the explosive had not been intercepted the flight's passengers and the aircraft major tragedy averted there Trevor all joins us now Trevor how's his defense team responding to the charges well Lindsey muffley's attorney argues that explosive was just a firework a commercial grade Firework and that there was no way it was going to detonate on its own but prosecutors say that doesn't matter because the firework could still be considered inexplosive which they believe it was and they also say there's no way to be sure that it couldn't detonate when it's in a bag with butane with a lighter with Lithium-ion batteries all things that you are not allowed to check onto an airplane because they might be flammable now if muffley is convicted on these charges he could face up to 15 years behind bars Lindsay hi Trevor all for us thanks so much Trevor frightening mid-air scares on two separate flights from extreme turbulence striking during the dinner service to smoke pouring out of an overhead bin thankfully panicked passengers were all safe ABC's Gio Benitez has the details for us tonight passengers on a Lufthansa plane from Austin Texas to Frankfurt Germany shaken by violent turbulence mid-flight describing that terrifying moment all of a sudden we lifted up and then we started dropping down really fast it felt like about five seconds of Free Fall Susan Zimmerman among the 174 passengers on board while it was happening plates were up in the ceiling glass was up at the ceiling my bag was flown back behind me Lufthansa flight 460 in the middle of dinner service on Wednesday night when the FAA says the aircraft hits severe turbulence at 37 000 feet over Tennessee on the Airbus A330 experience extreme turbulence the plane diverting safely to Washington's Dulles Airport Lufthansa says seven passengers suffered minor injuries and the aircraft was also damaged and just hours before this chaotic scene mid-flight aboard a Spirit Airlines plane from Dallas headed to Orlando smoke filling the cabin as passengers and crew worked to extinguish a fire sparked by an external battery pack and an overhead bin The Crew putting that burning battery pack into a thermal fireproof box before the plane made an emergency landing in Jacksonville at least 10 people required treatment tonight authorities say everyone is expected to be okay and Lindsay that's why it's so important to carry your batteries on with you do not put them in checked luggage Lindsay Geo thank you officials in Greece have now declared the cause of that major train crash that killed at least 57 people and they say it was human error with the station Master at the location of the crash now being charged with manslaughter more than 80 other people on board where they were injured in a head-on collision between a freight train and a passenger train that was traveling at roughly 103 miles per hour the majority of those killed were between 20 and 30 years old the Greek government has declared three days of national mourning in in the tragedy some 56 people still remain missing in what is the country's worst trained disaster now to the war in Ukraine in the first high-level meeting between the U.S and Russia since the War Began Secretary of State Anthony blinken had a brief face-to-face talk with Russian foreign minister Sergey lavrov at a G20 Summit in India meantime Russia forces are pressing forward in eastern Ukraine ABC's James Longman has more more tonight in their first face-to-face meeting since Russia's Invasion U.S Secretary of State blinken was blunt with his Russian counterparts Sergey lavrov I told the foreign minister end this war of aggression engage in meaningful diplomacy that can produce a just and durable peace beyond the U.S support for Ukraine blinken says

he also urged Russia to return to the start nuclear treaty and free American Paul Whelan who the U.S says has been wrongfully imprisoned on Espionage charges they met for just 10 minutes of the G20 Summit in India where blinken also said countries had warned China not to give Russia weapons and this is where Putin needs them Fierce tank battles in the muddy fields of eastern Ukraine where both sides are losing men and Equipment fast may have been damaged in battle so they're off now to retrieve it and this is what's so important in this the knowledge it's the know-how of how to repair it and maintain it the US has promised 31 Abrams high-tech equipment a world away from fixing tank engines on tree stumps James Longman joins us again tonight from Eastern Ukraine James what did Russia have to say about the blinken lavrov meeting today well it did feel a little bit like secretary blinken may have ambushed lavrov at the G20 in India maybe in a corridor somewhere the Russians are very keen to to downplay this they say that it was on the go that this wasn't actually a meeting it wasn't a negotiation of any kind and it was secretary blinken who asked for it not lavrov they were very clear about that this is nowhere close to the beginning of a negotiation the war here is still very much raging Lindsay are from over James Longman in Ukraine for us thanks James back in the U.S now Michigan man has been arrested and charged with threatening to kill state employees who are Jewish with the Michigan attorney general as one of those targeted A.G Dana nessel says that she was among those threatened and that the incident adds to recent concerns about threats against public officials as well as reports of increasing anti-semitic incidents across the country there's new pressure on Congressman George Santos tonight as the house Ethics Committee officially launches an investigation into his finances and conduct what will they be examining and what are the potential consequences for Santos here's ABC's Chief Washington correspondent Jonathan Carl Congressman what's the what's today the bipartisan house Ethics Committee formally launched an investigation into George Santos The Freshman Congressman known for fabricating much of his own life story there's so many allegations they had to form a separate subcommittee among the things they are looking at allegations related to campaign Finance whether Santos lied to the house in disclosure statements and alleged violations of federal conflict of interest laws you regret nothing the congressman has already admitted repeatedly lying about his resume including falsely claiming to have a college degree and that he worked at the Citigroup in Goldman Sachs none of it was true I've said I was sorry many times I've behaved as if I'm sorry I am sorry I'm deeply sorry he also lied about his family's story falsely claiming his grandparents fled the Holocaust and that his mother died from causes related to September 11th for months Republican leader Kevin McCarthy who needed Santos's vote to get elected Speaker of the House refused to criticize the congressman but McCarthy is now suggesting he's had enough I think we'd have to teach probably have a little difficulty doing that Jonathan Carl joins us now John so how is Santos responding he didn't say much today he put out a very short written statement Lindsay saying that he will fully cooperate with the ethics committee's investigation of course this is only one of many investigations he faces he faces criminal investigations at the local and federal level and an investigation by the federal elections commission Lindsay Jonathan Carl thanks John new documents from the investigation of the suspect in the University of Idaho murderers reveal what they found during their nighttime search of his family's Pennsylvania home ABC's chief justice correspondent Pierre Thomas has the latest tonight new details of what the FBI and State Police say they found that they searched the family home of the suspected killer of those four University of Idaho college students some of the items recovered from Brian coburger's parents home in Pennsylvania potentially critical to the case including a knife a gun black gloves black face masks and dark clothing a number of those reportedly recovered items matching the description from a witness who stumbled upon the killer on the night of the murders last October and a chilling account the witness describing how she opened her door after she heard crying and she saw a figure clad in Black clothing and a mask that covered the person's mouth and nose walking towards her co-burger a PhD student in criminology from Washington State University was arrested on December 30th weeks after those murders shocked the nation detectives arrested 28 year old Brian Christopher coburger in albrightsville Pennsylvania authorities say they locked in on him the use of DNA technology and after surveillance footage identified a white Hyundai Elantra that they were eventually able to connect to him that white Elantra approved key Pierre Thomas joins us now pure just break down for us how authorities made the connection from the car to the suspect Lindsay that search warrant inventory shows how the getaway cars keep police have dissected the vehicle looking at the seat cushions even the floor mats clearly hunting for DNA evidence to tie the suspect to the murders Lindsay Pierre Thomas Forrest thanks Pierre the mayor of College Park Maryland was arrested and charged with 56 counts of child pornography today Patrick will John resigned from his position following his arrest police were tipped off by the national Center for missing and exploited children earlier this month they searched the former mayor's home and recovered multiple cell phones a storage device a tablet and a computer police say they don't know yet who the victims are but they don't have any indication that he knew them or that they are local authorities in Iran have announced an investigation into a series of suspected poison gas attacks on girls schools hundreds of cases of poisonings have been reported among school girls since November of last year dozens have had to be hospitalized local media reports 30 schools have been targeted across four cities iranian-american activists masi alinejad is here to talk with us about that masi thank you so much for coming back on again so you just talked to a father who told you that his daughter was just poisoned just explain to us what they're going through right now first of all I have to say that this is a terror attack on school girls it's a Revenge by the Islamic Republic against the Brave Girls if you remember the one that was leading the revolution against the Islamic Republic removing their hijab so um yes I spoke with a father who's also a doctor and he was telling me that he warned his daughter to go to school with mask because this series of poisoning attack is happening like for a while started from the city of Guam then brujer and now Tehran it has like uh more than 800 students were being hospitalized and um they are really scared the girl told his father that half of the school were actually sent to hospital not only 35 this is the statistics that actually the government is trying to sell it to the media and we know that even the Iranian government has been urging the Taliban in Afghanistan to allow girls and women to go to school and be educated why are we seeing this up front for girls who just want to be able to get their education look um the Islamic Republic is exactly acting like Taliban that actually if you remember the chemical attack happened in Boko Haram in Afghanistan by Taliban and now by the Islamic Republic so they are all following same ideology they are against school girls they are against women they hate women so they actually try to create fear among school girls to stop them from protesting so that is why it's it's ironic that this Democrat public trying to tell the rest of the world that we are against all of them because the girls are not allowed to go to school the Islamic Republic cannot admit it publicly that they are against the school girls but they're using Terror uh tactic to create fear among school girls really what you're officials who are using their own religious interpretations and applying that for the masses right and that's something that we're even seeing play out in this country when it comes to abortions for example I'm just curious from your perspective as an activist as a journalist what this means we're talking about these broad implications for people who are just using their specific mindset on their religious beliefs you know what here in America when um uh the the you know women took to the streets for women's March or uh you know talking about abortion none of the women got killed 500 innocent protesters got killed by the Islamic Republic just because of protesting against uh the brutal death of Nassau amini and saying that we want to make decision over our own body so that is why I believe that women in America women in the west now they can Echo the voice of Iranian women the voice of Iran women enough Afghanistan who are being kicked out from schools and now getting kicked out from schools because of the chemical attack so that's uh you know another thing that the Islamic Republic now is saying that the minister of Education that we're going to have an investigation in this case we need an outside organization we need the the UN accountability mechanism to be on board we need the Doctors Without Borders to be on board and do an open investigation about this tragedy in Iran here this month and you met with Iranian opposition leaders talking about the pro-democracy movement can you give us any kind of update yes this is the next phase of the Revolution the unique uh time in the history that resistance of unity among oppositions inside and outside and recently we unveiled a coalition um at Georgetown University I'm part of this Democratic Coalition we're trying actually to have a political front line to meet with the leaders of democratic countries and convince them that this is the time that you have to recognize this Progressive Revolution we're coming with a charter based on human rights and ask the leaders of democratic countries to isolate Islamic Republic and be ready to see an Iran without Islamic Republic I see always a pleasure to have you here we appreciate your your activism Your Enthusiasm just your your energy and thank you thank you I'm going to invite you to my beautiful country when Iran is free thank you for that we'll accept up that invitation of course we want to give you a big congratulations she was just named one of Time magazine's 2023 women of the Year all Extraordinary leaders who are using their voices to fight for a more equal world and we want to continue to follow this story out of Iran ABC News has not yet been able to independently verify who is responsible for the poisonings still much more to get to here on Prime including that guilty Murdoch verdict but coming up a driver flips his car into a canal and gets trapped inside the electronic device credited with saving his life celebrate to us about his new stand-up special his next big move and growing up surrounded by laughter the next advances in artificial intelligence have led to services like chat GPT and could reshape everything from Medical Care to education their fears about the other ways it could be utilized this is a problem for the category of Robotics weaponizing general purpose robots it's going to make people very very nervous about seeing these chat gbt the AI tool that spits out answers to complex questions in just a matter of seconds but what happens when that revolutionary technology is put into robots there is so much promise but also serious concerns as the robotics field tries to keep their technology in the right hands in the first of our AI series our chief business correspondent Rebecca Jarvis reports on why we all need to be paying attention to the robot Revolution that's happening right before our eyes robots they can already do so much from picking up tools to delivering products even running in Tire factories we've come a long way in a very short time greetings and salutations my friend yes five years ago I met Sophia back then a Cutting Edge robot I'd really like to have a robot cat sort of able to hold a conversation maybe your robot cat and my real cat could play oh yes they're definitely cute today with the emergence of generative AI technology like Chad GPT which lets humans get answers to complex questions in a matter of seconds it's a whole different ball game we were trying to get your GPT controlled a robotic arm and from a typical robotics point of view what you would say is like okay pick up this blog place it in a specific area and then you know form the logo we just went ahead and asked hey do you know what the Microsoft logo looks like and it said yes and was able to actually draw it using Code robots can now take instructions in English instead of computer code as you see in this video where researchers direct and help teach the robot to complete simple tasks it's not just pattern matching this is now actually creating something that capability is is necessary and important for a lot of the things we're going to want to do in robotics reshaping Medical Care education and most workplaces you know your job may very well in the future instead of like personally unloading a tractor trailer you know continually talk the robot through doing it just like the way that the airline pilots now interact with planes is very much collaborating with an autopilot it's not that the autopilot replaced the plane or replace the pilot it actually you know enables you to do the job more efficient and safely but there's also the darker side accent of a Terminator film or Black Mirror episode like this footage not a movie but a very real Robo dog armed with a submachine gun firing live rounds always talking about it because it's always a concern this is a problem for the category of Robotics weaponizing general purpose robots it's going to make people very very nervous about seeing these robots around their communities we wondered how companies at the Forefront of developing these new Innovations are answering such difficult questions so our team got an exclusive tour of agility robotics state-of-the-art production facility in Pittsburgh CEO Damian Shelton and CTO Jonathan Hurst showing us around what is walking here Engineers are conducting performance tests and inspections on their autonomous humanoid robot called digit we have various gestures that are pre-programmed we also use this to test out that everything is working properly these robots can walk Crouch low reach high and are built to increase the productivity efficiency and wellness of jobs for humans and we're really focused on Warehouse Logistics tasks right now the dull dirty dangerous stuff it's really allowing people to prioritize what they're doing to things that have a higher return for their employer and are and are more interesting for the person to do what we're going to do is start moving these plastic e-commerce bands on these totes um off of the Shelf what religion is doing right now is standing at the environment identifying what's around it to make sure it knows exactly where it is in its face digit can also be guided by a handheld remote while I'm telling you what direction to go it is planning where it's safe to put its feet and comes with a big red all-stop button in case things go seriously wrong so this is just our fail safe to make sure that everyone stays safe we took digit for a stroll outside the warehouse through the corridors of an office building walking down hallways turning around corners with ease before coming to a stop at the front door and giving us a bow nice day digit can also perform outdoor tasks handle the curbs handle the steps and manage gravel grass and troubleshoot obstacles we've taken them out to the woods before and hiked on trails and you know up and down pretty steep hills and digit's future is wide open this next vision of digits coming out it's uh it's got a head it's got hands it's got self-charging um and and really all these things are function first you know we're building a machine that's made for work but with so much promise there also comes Peril people are worried about autonomous weapons and rightly so and so anytime somebody does something even a small company even a small thing it is something that concerns everybody and it really harms the ability of everybody else to do good with robotics that dog video and others like it prompting agility and five other leading robotics companies to sign an open letter against the weaponization of their robot technology unsurprisingly roboticists also think about the implications of all the technology that that we build we don't want to see robots causing harm being weaponized being used in the military context letter that we signed is you know a recognition to society that hey we in the industry can see this as being a problem and that ultimately this is really a an identification of uh you know a risk that you know we would hope that it's broader social conversation around the letter more important than ever as law enforcement across the country debate how to integrate robots into their work San Francisco considering a controversial proposal to let police robots use deadly force the sfpd controversy and others there's a very blurry line between you know non-lethal weapons or things that are designed for bomb disposal and potential weaponization the Board of Supervisors tabling The Proposal late last year after significant public backlash but it's expected to be reconsidered later this year at the same time the technology continues to evolve and researchers can see the possibilities this is definitely not in a stage where we can just take it out there and apply on a bunch of robots so are you ultimately aiming for the ability to for me to turn around and tell a robot to warm up my lunch or to deliver this pencil to a friend ultimately yes a major advance advancement in a short time do you ever get freaked out by your work does it scare you I wouldn't call it fear but I do um it reminds me you know like how much more needs to be done in terms of establishing the right guidelines and having the right kind of framing in mind as we uh develop these techniques and you know how we ensure that this doesn't fall in the wrong hands Microsoft and open AI along with the robotics World urging caution as we head Full Throttle into Uncharted Territory we can't necessarily prevent all bad things from happening but with disclosure and shining the light on you know the underlying systems that let these Technologies work that is uh you know a huge step towards making them safe for people that's going to require a lot of thoughtful implementation work and I you know say my view is people should be very careful about that this is a completely new enabling thing and we're right in the middle of that change of that technology and that is super exciting exactly how that happens it's kind of up to us so I want to bring these robots into the world in a way that is as positive as helpful as productive as it can possibly be thrilling and terrifying at the same time are things to Rebecca Jarvis for that so much more to get to coming up the arrest made in a series of bombings live welcome back everyone President Biden is called Eli Lily's pledge to drop prices on some of its insulin products a big deal and advocates for diabetes patients agree that it's an important step but just how big of a deal is it we take a look at it by the Numbers about 30 percent of the seven million people to diabetes in the U.S who rely on insulin take Eli Lilly products now for 25 dollars anyone can get a vial of Lily's generic insulin called lispro diabetes advocacy group T1 International tells us that's the biggest step yet toward affordable insulin for all but one type of insulin does not work for everyone for other products at least at a 35 monthly cap but there are strings attached patients need to have commercial insurance and get their prescription from a participating Pharmacy if they don't they'll need to register for a program it's still a pretty big deal though other advocacy groups like jbrf tell us that it will help 20 percent of those relying on insulin as they're expected to dock early Friday morning foreign jazz legend Wayne shorter has died shorter was a 12-time grammy-winning jazz saxophonist and composer in a career that spanned decades he was a member of art blakely's Jazz Messengers The Miles Davis quintet and the weather report and also had a successful solo career shorter was 89 years old he is from one of the most famous families in comedy but Marlon Wayans is more than just the funny man he plays on television and in films he's also a writer producer and recently returned to doing stand-up comedy I spoke with Wayans about his next steps and why he named a special God loves me um I I called it that because I think in our Journeys in life as individuals we all have to believe no matter what we go through that individually God loves you even though cataclysmic things happen and catastrophic things happen that doesn't seemingly it's not about you but it actually is and I felt like and through that I just realized with each one of us God loves me and he loves you he just loves me more and and slap gate was the thing that just everything life moved in slow motion but fast everything went like the slap happened but like by the time Chris's face healed I had a special I just knew what I wanted I was like oh my God because it was just the journey I had growing up in Hollywood since I was 10 11 years old and my interaction with my big brothers Chris and Will and Jada and I was just like yo there's something special here and I just to talk truth and it got funnier and funnier that had no but the joke said I thought you were supposed to be laying which one of you and you say the slap really had nothing to do with Chris or will or Jada no man has everything to do with me I'm sorry it happened I will send a positive I should have pause it's my fault it was all my wishing and my word my doing and I didn't know God's listened to me that well um but it's like the first joke in the special it's like a great hypothesis you throw out there and throughout the Journey of the special you prove why do you say that and then you go oh now I get it the night of the Oscars are you just starting to write down material no when I asked because I just watched and I just saw one brother hit another brother I was like oh oh I was like that's fake that ain't real that's Hollywood now look I paused it and I seen the tears wound up in Chris's eye I was like I don't know if Chris could pull those type of tears off those are Denzel tears it was a Viola Davis tears I don't think he could do that as a black man it affected me as a black actor that affected me as a black comedian that affected me and I was just like it was close to me and they're all my friends I was like I got to talk about this you know it's something that I would be proud to honestly show them it's it's nothing to be ashamed of it's just an honest perspective of what's happened and it's it's healing because laughter's healing so hopefully they can laugh at it just like the audience is able to laugh at it and then after we could put it behind us Jada one time I played her Stevie wonders too shy to say and then she played me back in Vogues never gonna get it [Applause] Fresh Prince of Bel-Air [Music] when you are doing presenting your material getting it ready and especially that which includes maybe your brothers like you talk about one of your brothers projects like the movie I'm gonna get you sucker for example do you ever run it by them first is it the kind of thing where you're like one do I need your approval or permission if I keep trusting their instincts I'm not building my own and so I can't always go to my brothers and be like hey what's your thoughts on this I've learned as an artist I just got to express it and hope that I did the right thing my brothers have probably they've hated everything I've done for 30 years and then this special my brother before I filmed it I had my brother Damon coming Damon do you think like Keenan hates him Damon hates everything like so he saw it and I said what do you think he goes well that's brilliant and I was like why do you say that he said I ain't never seen it done you finally hit on some brillians ugly when I show my brother Keenan goes let's just bring it you changed the game you did something that nobody's done I I he said um I'm proud of you it's a it's a game changer those guys have been in comedy that's 100 Years of Comedy between the two of them and they're only excited when they see somebody do something different when they change the mold not just the joke what was it like growing up in your householders as you were doing all the just different impressions of your brothers and everybody's funny in the household a bunch of boys what's that like the best I I wish regular like people could have grew up in our house our house was the funnest house I mean I would never I wouldn't want to be raised anywhere else except my house tears are short short-lived because we're always like what's funny about that like the darkest stuff like what's funny about that we'd be at funerals people think we're like crying we're like laughing like you're gonna bury him with no shoes he's not getting to heaven with those we always have find the funny right uh about to host The Daily Show in The Comedy Central yes that's kind of new I mean are you ready to get it canceled how long is The Daily Show been on it'll be great Marlon Wayans gets The Daily Show cancel are you nervous at all like you feel like you got the hosting thing down no not at all I'll figure it out as I go you want some tips sir you know I mean like how do you do you look at the camera so when you look at the camera are you looking at the camera are you looking at the audience at home because y'all be sounding like y'all talking to me like you really felt that earthquake and uh my love to all those people you know I think that if I were doing the daily snowing in LA that's right that is crazy and I feel like you really feel bad for the fact that it's snowing in a place where we actually need snow so what do you do empathy I think is when you really what you really want to convey when you're looking into the camera but as a comedian you're kind of doing that only when you're Crossing into like can you believe that right like right whatever I'm gonna give them fake sincerity that's good I like that I like that I like the squinty eyes and the head down yeah that works you got it job security for you right there all right hey thank you very nice to meet you too our thanks to Marlon Wayans for that entertaining conversation his one hour stand up special God loves me is available now you can stream it on HBO Max and that is our show for this hour I'm
