9 Technologies Poised to Shake Up the World in 2025
all right so get ready cuz we're diving head first into some seriously crazy Tech today stuff that's supposed to like completely change the world by 2025 even yeah two years crazy it is crazy you know you sent me this video called uh nine breakthrough technologies that will change the world in 2025 and uh I guess say they weren't kidding around with these predictions we're talking machines that Think Like Us lab grown meat even brains hooked up to computers the whole shebang yeah the whole bang is it's a lot to process so uh let's take it one step at a time yeah what do you say we break it down and see what's what sounds good to me let's do it okay so first up artificial general intelligence AGI dun dun dun dun dun dun exactly this isn't just like your phone recognizing your face we're talking about machines that can like truly think like humans yeah it's not just about doing a specific task AGI is like trying to recreate the whole enchilada of human intelligence the whole enchilada yeah you know all the good stuff learning reasoning problem solving uh even creativity whoa whoa whoa hold on you're saying machines could be creative well that's the goal I mean think about it machines that can design their own experiments diagnose diseases in seconds maybe even uh write a symphony okay so full disclosure my brain's already starting to melt a little bit understandable it's a lot to take in it is so the video mentioned these companies open Ai and Google deepmind are these the like the big players in the AGI game oh yeah for sure they're definitely leading the charge pushing the boundaries of what AI can do building on what we already have like deep learning and neural networks but trying to go way further okay so what does this mean for us the regular humans are we all going to be out of a job living in a world run by robot overlords uhhuh good question the classic Sci-fi fear right right it's a valid question though the video brought up some pretty serious points about you know what happens to the workforce when machines can do everything we can yeah definitely something to think about I mean if a machine can do your job what happens to you it's going to shake things up for sure some jobs will definitely disappear but there's also a chance that um it could lead to totally new kinds of jobs new ways for humans and machines to work together so kind of like a a double-edged sword huge potential benefits but also some scary risks we need to figure out you got it okay well let's move on to something uh a little less you know existential crisis inducing Quantum Computing this one always makes my head spin it is a bit of a mind Bender a bit I mean the basic idea as far as I can grasp it is that these quantum computers use things called qubits instead of regular bits and those qubits can be in multiple States at the same time exactly it's like imagine a regular computer bit can be either a zero or a one right but a qubit it can be both zero and one at the same time it's crazy it is crazy and that lets them do these massive calculations way way faster than any regular computer could ever dream of exactly we're talking about speeds that are like mind-bogglingly fast like calculations that would take a supercomputer 10,000 years a quantum computer might be able to do in like 200 seconds they actually showed that in the video Google they hit this thing called Quantum Supremacy with a calculation like that is that for real oh yeah it's real it's a huge milestone and it shows that you know Quantum Computing isn't just science fiction anymore it's happening so besides you know just blowing our minds what can Quantum Computing actually do like what are the real world implications well think about things like drug Discovery okay with Quantum Computing you could design new drugs and treatments way faster way more efficiently potentially even cure diseases that are like incurable right now or Material Science imagine designing brand new materials with properties we haven't even dreamed of yet okay but hold on the video also mentioned something about quantum computers breaking encryption that sounds a little uh terrifying yeah that's a legitimate concern I mean if they can crack the codes that protect like our online banking our personal data national security stuff that's a big deal yeah a really big deal so cyber Security Experts they're going to have their work cut out for them all right so from mind-bending calculations to literally rewriting the code of life let's talk about crisper Gene editing feels like something straight out of a a sci-fi movie it really does but it's becoming more and more real every day and crisper is like the most powerful Gene editing tool we've ever had it's like a a molecular scalpel it lets scientists make these super precise changes to DNA sequences yeah the video showed how they could use it to cure genetic diseases like cystic fibrosis or CLE cell anemia I mean that's incredible it's groundbreaking stuff but it does come with some some big ethical questions you know oh absolutely we're talking about like messing with the building blocks of life here that's huge it's huge and we need to be really careful about how we use this technology think about the implications you know where do we draw the line between therapy and enhancement right we got to have some serious conversations about that yeah we do okay next up we've got something that sounds straight out of the Matrix brain computer interfaces bcis are we really talking about plugging our brains into computers yep pretty much a BCI is a direct connection between your brain and a computer it's like having a uh a digital interface for your thoughts okay wow so Elon musk's neuralink that's one of the big names in this field right oh yeah they're definitely Making Waves they're developing these tiny little threads that get implanted in your brain and that's how the computer reads your thoughts well more like it detects and transmits neural signals like the electrical activity in your brain okay so trying to wrap my head around this what can you actually do with a BCI I mean are we talking about mind control telepathy downloading knowledge directly into our brains uhhuh well we're not quite there yet but the possibilities are definitely mind-blowing for now the main focus is on medical applications okay what kind of applications well think about people who are paralyzed or have uh neurological conditions that make it hard to communicate bcis could give them back the ability to move to speak just by thinking about it that's amazing but the video also showed these like these futuristic scenarios where you could control devices with your mind have these totally immersive VR experiences even communicate telepathically is any of that even remotely realistic it might sound crazy but honestly it's not outside the realm of possibility I mean we're still a long way off but the research is moving incredibly fast but there's some pretty big concerns here too right yeah like what about privacy if a computer can read my thoughts who has access to that information and what about security could someone like hack into my brain yeah those are all valid questions and honestly there are things we need to figure out before BC's become like an everyday thing we need some serious safeguards to protect our privacy and our security in this Brave New World all right let's come back down to earth for a minute and talk about something a little less uh mind- bending batteries not exactly the most thrilling topic but the video made a pretty strong case for solid state batteries being a GameChanger oh they're huge solid state batteries they're like the next generation of Battery tech they're denser so they pack more energy they're safer and they charge way faster than the lithium ion batteries we use now yeah they were talking about electric cars getting solid state batteries by like 2025 yeah companies like Toyota BMW they're all over it is that realistic you think it's definitely possible I mean there are still some technical hurdles to overcome but the progress is happening really fast so imagine charging your electric car in the same amount of time it takes to fill up a tank of gas and then being able to drive like hundreds of miles on a single charge that's that's gamechanging it would totally revolutionize the EV Market it's not just cars right nope not at all yeah solid state batteries they could be used in everything our phones laptops even renewable energy storage imagine a world where your phone charges in like 5 minutes and your laptop battery lasts for days days that sounds amazing right and for renewable energy it would be a huge deal solid state batteries could make storing solar and wind power way more efficient and cheaper it could really speed up the transition to clean energy okay so ready for this one lab grown meat I got to say I'm a little uh skeptical but the video actually made some good points about the environmental benefits and you know Animal Welfare yeah it's definitely a controversial topic but the science behind it it's moving fast lab grown meat also called cultured meat it's basically made by uh growing animal cells in a lab so you don't need to raise and Slaughter animals they even mentioned that the first lab grown chicken was sold in Singapore back in 2020 yeah it's already happening it's not just some futuristic idea anymore so this isn't like just a veggie burger trying to be meat it's actual meat grown in a lab that's right it's the real deal okay so the big question would you eat it hm that's a tough one I think I'd be open to trying it I mean if it tastes good and it's actually better for the environment and for Animals why not yeah that's a good point all right moving on to something that's been getting a lot of Buzz l lately blockchain yeah most people probably associate it with cryptocurrency like Bitcoin totally but the video made it pretty clear that blockchain has the potential to be so much more than that oh yeah for sure I mean at its core blockchain is just this um this decentralized tamperproof way of keeping records it's like a digital Ledger that's super secure and transparent so yeah it's been used for cryptocurrencies but it could be used for so many other things they talked about using it for supply chain management voting systems even verifying people's identities give me an example like how could blockchain actually work for something like that okay so imagine you buy a stake at the grocery store right with the blockchain system you could track that stake all the way back to the farm where the cow was raised you'd know exactly where it came from how it was handled everything so no more mystery meet exactly or think about voting a blockchain system could make elections way more secure and transparent your vote would be recorded on this tamperproof letter ler so there's no way to cheat or manipulate the results okay that's pretty core but what about the downsides I know there's been talk about blockchain having issues with scalability and uh using a lot of energy yeah those are definitely challenges that need to be addressed scalability means like can a blockchain network handle a huge amount of transactions and yeah some blockchains use a lot of energy because they require a ton of computing power so it sounds like blockchain is still a work in progress but it has the potential to really shake things up in a lot of Industries totally it's definitely a technology to keep an eye on all right let's shift gears again from the digital world to the physical world smart cities the video painted this like futuristic picture of cities that use technology to make everything run more efficiently from traffic to energy use is this really the future of cities I think it's definitely a glimpse into what's possible smart cities they use all these sensors and data analytics and AI to manage resources better and make life easier for the people who live there they showed examples like Singapore and Helsinki which are already using some pretty cool Smart City Tech what kinds of things are they doing well imagine traffic lights that change in real time based on how much traffic is flowing through an intersection so no more sitting at a red light when there's no one coming the other way exactly or smart grids that can distribute energy more efficiently making cities more sustainable and they even talked about using technology to to improve Public Safety what does that even mean it could be things like using sensors to monitor public spaces for uh for potential crime or using Predictive Analytics to figure out where crimes are most likely to happen but of course we got to be careful about privacy issues with that kind of thing yeah you don't want to create a big brother situation exactly it's a balance okay let's talk about something that really blurs the lines between technology and Humanity humanoid robots this is where things start to feel like we're living in a Sci-Fi movie No Doubt humanoid robots they're designed to look and act like humans and they're getting more and more advanced all the time I mean they showed robots doing backflips in that video are these just fancy toys or do they have real world uses oh they're definitely not just toys companies like uh Boston Dynamics Tesla they're building robots that can do some pretty amazing things like helping out in disaster areas working in factories and warehouses alongside humans so the big question everyone's asked asking is are robots going to take our jobs it's a valid concern and it's something we need to think about seriously I mean as robots get more capable they will probably automate some jobs that humans are doing now yeah but that could also create new jobs jobs that require um creativity and problem solving skills that robots don't have it's hard to say exactly what will happen but it's going to be a big Shi Okay so we've covered a lot of ground here artificial intelligence Gene editing humanoid robots it's clear that things are changing really fast and the next few years are going to be pretty wild Hold On Tight that's for sure yeah buckle up the future is coming at us fast all right let's take a quick break and we'll be right back with more of this deep dive into the future it's wild to think about how all these Technologies they kind of play off each other you know yeah there's like they're all pieces of a puzzle exactly like each one is cool on its own but when you put them all together it's like whoa the picture of the future gets a whole lot bigger and more complicated and scarier maybe I mean we're talking about some powerful stuff here yeah for sure there's a lot of potential for things to go wrong too I mean we got to be smart about how we develop and use these Technologies right we can't just focus on the cool factor and forget about the consequences it's like we're explorers going into this Uncharted Territory and there could be amazing discoveries but also some serious dangers lurking out there 100% and that's why it's so important to have these conversations you know to think about the ethical implications the social impact all that stuff we got to be prepared so where do we even begin I mean all this stuff it's kind of mind-blowing how do we even wrap our heads around it all well I think a good starting point is to try and understand the basic principles Behind These Technologies like strip away all the jargon and just get to the core idea okay I like that simplify it a bit exactly so like artificial intelligence at its core it's about trying to replicate human intelligence right G editing it's about manipulating the building blocks of life and blockchain it's about creating secure and transparent ways to store information okay so instead of getting bogged down in the technical details we can focus on the big picture the fundamental ideas at play that makes it a little less intimidating exactly and once you understand those basic principles it becomes easier to see how these Technologies can be used in different ways and to imagine the impact they might have it's like learning a new language almost once you have the basic grammar vocabulary down you can start forming your own sentences expressing yourself in new ways that's a great analogy and it's true the more you learn about these Technologies the more fluent you become you start to see the connections the possibilities so let's talk practicalities what can people actually do to prepare for this crazy future that's coming at us so fast well first and foremost education is key we got to stay informed keep learning about these new developments I mean there's so much information out there though books articles podcasts online courses it's overwhelming it can be but that's also the beauty of it there are so many ways to learn and explore and it's not just about technical knowledge either it's about developing critical thinking skills ethical awareness the ability to adapt to change those are going to be some valuable skills in the years to come for sure absolutely the future is going to demand a Workforce that's flexible creative and able to solve complex problems so we're all becoming students again basically I think that's a great way to look at at it we're all constantly learning and evolving as the world around us changes and that's actually pretty exciting it means we have the power to shape this future to use these Technologies to build a world that's better than the one we have now I like that it's not just about adapting to change it's about actively shaping the change we want to see that's empowering exactly and that's where individual action comes in we all have choices to make that can influence how these Technologies develop and how they're used okay so what does that look like in everyday life give me some examples well for starters we can be conscious consumers we can choose to support companies that are using these Technologies in ethical and sustainable ways vote with our wallets exactly and we can also support policies that encourage responsible Innovation policies that protect our privacy our security our basic human rights and we can get involved in local initiatives right like Community projects that are exploring how these Technologies can be used to address local problems absolutely there are so many ways to get involved both locally and globally the key is to find what resonates with you what you're passionate about and then use your voice and your actions to make a difference so the message is we're not just helpless bystanders watching all this happen we can actually do something about it we can shape the future that's exactly right and that's what makes this whole thing so exciting and so important we're living through this incredible moment in history where technology is trans forming everything and we have the power to decide what that future looks like it's both daunting and inspiring for sure it is but I think it's important to approach it with optimism with a belief that we can use these Technologies to create a better world for everyone I'm with you on that all right well this conversation has definitely got my brain firing on all cylinders we've covered a lot of ground and I'm sure our listeners are feeling the same way for sure it's a lot to take in but it's important stuff so let's take a quick pause to gather our thoughts and then we'll wrap things up with some final takeaways and some food for thought all right we're back ready to wrap up this Whirlwind tour of the future ready when you are it's crazy to think about how all these Technologies they're not just changing like specific Industries they're reshaping the whole world you know yeah it's not just about like faster computers or better phones it's about how we live how we work how we think even exactly from how we communicate to how we treat diseases to what we eat it feels like everything is up for grabs right now and it's happening so fast it is and while a lot of these changes seem really positive I mean who wouldn't want to cure diseases or have a phone that charges in five minutes there's also like a lot of uncertainty and potential downsides we got to think about for sure every new technology comes with risks and these are some pretty powerful Technologies so let's zoom out for a second big picture time what does all this mean for the average person what's the takeaway for our listeners today I think the main message is that the world is changing and it's changing faster than ever before and these technological advancements they're going to impact every aspect of Our Lives whether we're ready for it or not so what can people do to prepare I mean honestly it can feel pretty overwhelming well I think one of the most important things is to be adaptable to be open to new ideas new ways of doing things and to never stop learning so lifelong learning is more important than ever absolutely the skills that are in high demand today they might be totally obsolete in 5 years so we need to be constantly learning upgrading our skills evolving along with the technology it's like we're all students again forever uhhuh yeah kind of but honestly I think that's a good thing it keeps things interesting and it means we have the power to shape our own Futures I like that we're not just passive bystanders you know we can actually participate in building this future exactly and that's what I want people to take away from this convers ation it's not just about being afraid of the changes or feeling overwhelmed it's about recognizing that we have agency we have choices we can shape the world we want to live in so to wrap things up I'm going to leave you with this question which of these nine technologies that we talked about today which one excites you the most and which one worries you the most good question think about it talk about it with your friends your family let's start a conversation about the future we want to create because the future isn't something that just happens to us we build it together so let's go out there and start building
