Small business in Ecuador - Manabi Market Business and Networking
some people once asked me if there were tennis clubs here tennis where people can play tennis i was out walking around yesterday in the barbecue area notice there's a couple tennis clubs over there one of them actually just right up the street from the la cuadra shopping center very active place lots of looked like they were teaching lettuce i had tennis lessons in there i found also discovered that there was another place called the umena tennis club which is a little bit further away from the la quadra shopping center as you're going out of town point it out on the map here this circled here as you can see and so when i got there i was just doing some general footage on my gopro and i ran across what's they called it a an event called the mona b market business and networking fair so it's a collection of people that came to this place to set up a booth and to show what they were selling and then introduce our business to the general public i ran into a young lady named daniella and i filmed all this on my gopro and i'm going to share it with you now after this of course hey hello rocket chica hello there some kind of commercial new car market step hello hi hi how are you what's going on here thank you um this is a fair a business and networking fair oh really yeah i have a youtube channel and i'm kind of doing some footage up here about this area that place next door oh and i saw all the cars and stuff and i thought i would see i'm nosy i wanted to see what was going on all perfect yeah i do i do my name is don shader daniela nice to meet you good to meet you um i can show you around okay if you want do we get to eat too yeah is it free it is free the entrance is free actually like all the visitors oh this is like a brand it's called yeah and they uh have like this equipment to grill the the meat it's like actually a special procedure really yeah smells so good what kind of wood are they burning um i don't know the word in in english in spanish all right i'll find out yeah yeah it smells good yeah it does okay so um so this is i don't know if i said this is not a b market yes this is like our third edition it's a affair oh so you do this every year oh thank you we do we have uh around 40 um brands yeah vendors brands here and we have like also our sponsors okay here so these are people that have businesses yeah here now or they want to start a business no they do they have been businesses already okay and they wanna they came here from all over ecuador to show their products here in manta and you do this every year we do yeah this is our third edition so we're really happy so it doesn't have anything to do with tennis because we're at this um yeah but um no we're just using the location okay okay they're sponsoring us they're sponsoring us um they seem to be pretty popular ah i know well we know each other here you know like mata is really small so we get to know each other so can you show me around let's go all right i have i have a pretty good-sized family likes this kind of stuff you know the people that want to come here and people that are retiring from the united states and they want to come here and live like i did they would love this yeah this is a really good school like space yeah so as you see these are like many brands that they come from all over the cuenca quito we have like accessories shoes we have okay now wait a minute what did you call this accessories like next necklace okay all right yeah jewelry jewelry yeah exactly that's what i call this audience i call them in spanish yeah we have like chocolate like gourmet chocolate oh my god and this is chocolate this is delicious yeah one thing i noticed about you have to try it chocolate perfect milk chocolate and dark chocolate this is carolina the owner of oh wow i can have it yeah you can have it it's free it's a sample it's uh i'll tell people all the time they haven't had they haven't tasted chocolate chocolate here because i go to one of my favorite restaurants is dolce camoso and they have the tiramisu and they sprinkle this chocolate they pour this chocolate on top of it yeah oh my gosh it's it's completely different oh so also i always wanted to stir what brought you into this business how did you how did you get started doing this um we just look we just love it's just not me we are three partners uh doing this and we just love connecting people we are we have different businesses ourselves but um we love this we love connecting people we love connecting brands with their potential client with their potential distributor so that's what we do we do it because of out of passion yeah do these people have to pay to come to this yes yeah because yeah there's like a whole production exactly so um the entrance is for free so the the public can come like the whole day today and the whole day tomorrow yeah but yeah there's like a fee to participate wow wow so these are like as you see like different kind of like businesses they have different kind of um segments of businesses okay it's very very interesting this is a pacific ocean they have like all these tectonic solutions like like the houses and buildings i wonder if they could build soundproof windows for my bedroom we can ask them yeah yeah i will before i leave yeah yeah they probably could i bet you they could because that looks like that's the type of business they're in yeah they probably could yeah i'm in a fairly quiet neighborhood but every once in a while where do you live i'm in torrey marina okay in uh lago okay yeah it could be noisy yeah and i'm on the top floor and the sound just bounces between the buildings it comes right into my patio so but so now you always have a good turnout do you keep track of how many people actually come to this event we try um we do have like um that's that's very um fun that was something that we do we have uh prices for the visitors yeah so in order for you to register to be part of the you have to do the registration okay so that's how we like know how many people come through and how many people you have the same pretty much the same people every year that come here no different brands i mean every year there are maybe one or two that like love the the prayer so they come back like haida this is her second time in manavi market yeah and there's like another brand or two like coming back because they love so when they come here they come here and they set up these booths and people come through and they buy do you think do these people here have a chance to open up a permanent shop here or do they already do they already have one i mean um most of them do most of them don't they normally sell online but the purpose of coming here is to to see that if the product yeah the product is like good enough for the market and like test it you know test that the potential client if they like it and if they find someone like a distributor here i guess they could like it ha it happened before in the other editions sure like people making businesses and i think you already told me but when did you start this no this is this started in 2017. this is the third so what is the pandemic do to this thing it was i think it was terrible for everyone it was like like a bad bit hit for everyone so i i think to be here is it's very brave yeah it's very brave for us for them because even though we go we went through we went through a pandemic we went through a national strike here in ecuador oh yeah like a few weeks ago i know i was here um i was worried about getting food and and people you know it stopped selling and stuff like and and to be here for me is something very brave okay so you weren't you weren't doing this during the earthquake in yeah we did it like um a year after that okay yeah so that was another thing that was another big yeah so we always going through like different like economy hits yeah that even though people still like they don't give up no i i love i love this word i know what the word in in spa in english it's resilient it's when you go through above everything yes so that's what i think about ecuadorian entrepreneurs and businesses sure they go like we surface through everything so this space is for that for to to to make it possible to reach out people who doesn't know your brand right yeah so it's incredible yeah we're pretty proud this is what we call networking we call this networking i love that word yeah yeah you get out get to meet people you get to meet your future customers you know also you're going to have music here also yeah yeah so this is like the food part yeah so we have like and i think there's some pizza there okay there's like healthy snacks yeah and like now different things like the shrimp society they sell like um you can try it you can try it though yeah um i don't know if you'd like shrimp i love shrimp i eat it all right so they sell these like little bowls of um of shrimps if you want to go i will i will probably i'll do it after um yeah so it's really good so if you want to try they sell it they sell them frozen so you can like prepare them at home is that what the little patty is yeah i have some of those in my freezer that i got from uh there's a lady here that sells frozen fish okay stella's fish market she sells to the different restaurants and she has these little patties and it's all shrimp they do too later and they have like little bowls and they already have already prepared so i can taste you can try it okay when does the music start it's today in the afternoon in the afternoon yeah today at eight is a live music but before that we have like a wine tasting it's free as well oh my god um and then before that we are um we have the chitto veda fight yeah the ufc fight oh my god people love it here oh really yeah because he's from manavichito oh really i didn't know that we are very proud of him oh my yeah that's where they really fight yeah so this is gonna be packed in the afternoon oh my lord you're gonna be broadcasting it on the screen there yeah yeah we are and just some like an interesting fact they are giving free water for everyone oh fantastic yeah i see their trucks all over montana yeah yeah they're here they sell the big bottles and then they also have the little bottles so they do they sell the little bottles in the grocery stores no i don't think so i don't think so i don't know but they're here with free water for everyone okay good yeah that's nice yeah let's look around some more this is kind of like back home back in the states the home is here now but i mean like what used to be back home we we'd have these and oh my god they'd be thousands of people in them you know and it's a good way for a piece a business a new business to get started yeah yeah that's what like to get her name out yeah so this is um different kind of products like you see like pigeons and like natural products and more jewelry i wonder if they have one of these in size 13. i think this is this is their men free kids oh 40 is the biggest oh yeah maybe they'll feed you they might find so they make all this yeah they make all of this and they make this is natural um soaps and yeah soaps like artisanal products we also really really like um things that are done in ecuador we promote that a lot like people to consume what it's made here yeah i mean it's all we here can participate all kinds of businesses but we do try to promote that like to consume things made here made here yeah yeah that's that's that's i mean we do the same thing in the united states made in america you know made made in america sold in america used in america so this is something that i'm not seeing around either this is like the best kind of like pots really they have cutlery too yeah i think so i think so yeah yeah yeah that's nice looking stuff they're really good um like really good makeup yeah yeah it's really good product where do they sell it that's where do they sell this okay so if you are very interested they can sell you here the pots but they can also they can also like contact you go to your house cook for you and show you how they work yeah like if anyone likes to like to test them because they're really good sure yeah there's a off the wall question do they have full cut resets asking if they have and like a chef's knife and then there's like a yeah like a bread slice you know because i tell people all the time it's hard to find good cutlery he's like you know the best yeah he's the best oh yeah yeah so there you go yeah yeah yeah okay this is like the best of the best yeah yeah and my biggest problem my kitchen is having sharp enough knives to work with you know because they're they're i bought them at mega maxi and they're cheap oh no that's terrible like make extra effort so yeah this is like the best of the best okay of course before i leave i want to come back and get some stuff information is like the water filters i have one of those in my shower you do i do and for like the kitchen i have one in the kitchen and i think it's about one of the best investments yeah this is really cool oh i know these people down here you do yeah hi expat magazine yeah so yes you see it's like a how a buyer it's your product yeah oh yeah everything it's it's made here in soldier essentially yeah this is what women buy stuff i don't know mary meeting men maybe you like some like maybe like a buttercream or something like that what am i going to eat put it on my toes or your hands or your like elbows or like i don't know i know my dad used it for his elbows so maybe for the elbows yeah i know that you can take coconut oil and put it on your skin um i don't know like it's oil it's oil so i don't know if it's not yeah but you can like go around and ask yeah i see somebody back there that i know yeah yeah these are our friends yeah we are doing organic yeah they have services of like organizing spaces yeah yeah so they help you to organize your spaces yeah and like leave it like there's a pizza chocolate it's a little bit soft so these are for our friends from hayek's but if you think definitely you will be and that's one of our objectives inspiring and informing expats you know like you say we need include more information about ecuador show ecuador to the expert community like today that's the reason why we are here on this event because in this event you can see different brands different companies you know you can be familiar with the business from manta and from ecuador sure and good to see you here too yeah yeah so you know i don't know if we talked about this once before but what exactly is your uh do you own this magazine or well with my partner reporter partner marcos from equal assists and this is like the way to say thanks to the expert community you know because both have business that works with expats yeah higher percent of experts are part of in english obviously what do you think about the magazine though i love it i love it and i'll tell you another thing i really like about i want to show this here's this is one thing it's i don't know if my camera can pick it up it's a super quality mag yeah yeah and and it's like it's very well done and it's it even smells good i love it i love it it's really good it's good quality it's a great magazine so and the material and it is very good too i know what mark bradbury is part of this yeah there he is right there yeah will you marry me look at this good looking guy yeah i have seen him yeah i have seen his like big billboards oh yeah have you seen him in person no no he'll he'll make your heart melt oh really oh he'll pull on your heart tug on your heart strings you know he's quite a handsome man it's kind of like this stud right here you know take one for you sir all right yeah i don't have this one yet so and everybody that comes here will take a magazine right so we have some roses for the people we invited to the expert community to come music on the night vanilla yes wine wine yeah wine tasting wine tasting yeah i already told don like all the activities we have here and like we tell him a little bit about mana market so it's a it's a really nice event yeah you know one thing not to change the subject but a lot of people don't know that ecuador is a huge exporter of flowers you know and roses in particular yeah i did i didn't know that until i came here probably we can include an article about the roses too you know and people can know a little bit more yeah yeah i've seen you know some documentaries on tv actually about the export of the roses out of ecuador and i thought i didn't even know that so all right well good i'm going to leave everybody alone people and i had had some good talks as you can see and i ran into some people that that already knew carlos from blue box insurance and then marco's from equosus and carlos was there representing the
