Running an organizer business without an office space
all right we're back we can't get enough of these classes so super sunday continues with a class on organization and i don't know about you if i could turn my camera around and show you my office right now i clearly will be taking notes on this one so jen kelly take it away rock their world oh my goodness and it's how how funny that is that this is literally what the depiction of organization quote unquote is with this behind me right now [Laughter] um so hey guys it's john kelly out of upstate new york um and the funny thing is so the the name of this class um is how in the world do you stay organized even in a tiny space um and when we actually picked the name of this class what um a couple of us actually wanted to name this class was how to run a successful business out of a shed um so for those of you guys who don't know me my name is jen kelly i'm a senior executive director and senior board of directors member out of upstate new york um very very small town i've been doing this for nine years i started at 22 i'm now 31. um this business has moved through multiple seasons of life with me i started this fresh out of college i originally started to quit bartending and then i wanted to pay off student loans um and then i got married i bought a house um you know i was the crazy young girl and then you know i settled down and now i and i got pregnant i had a baby just recently um and it has really helped me be mobile throughout every single season of my life um and i feel like the word organized is such a scary word because when you think of the word organization you think of like hgtv everything has to be like everything has to be in a place right and i think of the word organization as efficient um now don't get me wrong this you know this is not very pretty right behind me it's really not um but what it is is it is efficient um and the reason why i like pure romance and i love my business is because it allows me it allows it it allows me to work when i need to work and i don't need to work when i can't work um you know if my husband was on the road for multiple years and i had to be able to move freely um and most recently i lived in my camper in my mother-in-law's front yard um so i literally have been like quote-unquote homeless um i did have a home i had a house so not literally homeless thankfully i did have a roof over my head um but i lived in my camper and on my mother-in-law's front yard and i i didn't have what i was used to i didn't have multiple rooms i literally had a fifth wheel camper with my two dogs my husband and my newborn son um so this allowed me um my tips that i want to share with you guys it's not just business tips guys it is literally like how in the hell did i run my whole entire life and stay organized or efficient in a manner in a tiny tiny space or in a tiny amount of time insane at the exact same time um so this class is literally designed how i even survived that and thrived running a business doing that um now let me back up the truck if you're like girl hold the phone can't relate don't have children um don't live in a camper don't have any of that going on in my life i'm not a hot mess i'm super organized um or even if you're even if you can't relate i want you to step back and i invite you to still just take a little bit from this because what i have done in the past nine years of business and by the way guys and i have the past nine years of business i have um i've won incentive trips i have um been on the senior board for eight of my nine years or on board um for eight of my nine years in business i have been one of the youngest senior board members i've been one of the youngest million dollar team leaders um i have taught for our company so i have a little bit of knowledge underneath my belt i have sat in plenty of classes that may not have related to me so i thought so i invite you to just sit and maybe think okay maybe what what is one small thing because there might be one little bitty piece that i might be able to share with you guys that might help you guys especially if you're the super organized person that might be able to help someone on your team who is the hot mess because i am like self-proclaimed the hot mess but i know where every single thing is in my entire house like literally my husband moved something the other day and i was like where did you put this i know where it is where did you put it and i he i knew where it was so and on top of that if you're like girl i don't have children i do have a child now um my life was a hot mess pre-cooper even but now it's even it's crazier because i do have a tiny blonde terrorist who adds that much more chaos into my life so trust me kids kids are no kids um 15 jobs like three stay-at-home jobs like this is duplicatable for every single lifestyle i promise you so um with that oh wow oh yay look at that i can see all the comments this is fun okay so one thing i wanted to start off this this class with um it's something i saw this morning on a team member of mine and i run off of notes so what i'm going to do guys just so you guys know is i'm going to run all these things off and if you guys have um questions please leave them all for the end because i'm not going to be reading the chat for right now just you guys know um i wanted to start this class off something i saw this morning on a team member of mine and a very good friend of mine's um facebook story nichola anders um and it really just resonated with me and i think i saw this morning to share with you guys um it said a big misconception is that you need to be motivated to get rolling you don't motivation almost always follows action not the other way around you don't need to feel good to get going you need to get going to give yourself a chance to start feeling good and the reason why i'm sharing this with you guys is because so many people hear the word organization like i said before and they freeze right or they're frozen um in the idea of having to be so organized before they even start anything right and i share this with because with new consultants um they're like i need to do all the things i need to have all the sparkly folders and i need to get like all the things to know about a bottle of coochie um before i do anything before i even book a party um and the idea is you know is it organization or is it fear has truly opened up my eyes in the past couple of years over you know every single person and it doesn't matter if it's business or if it's you know just in our in your kitchen you're like frozen i you know i'm gonna organize my spice rack i'm gonna do it but i have to get all the things in order to spice organize my spice rack but i'm not gonna organize it until i get all the things to do it and you freeze yourself until you get all the things to do it but then you procrastinate in order to do it so this is where the idea behind this class came and i'm giving you the permission okay that's the keyword throughout the whole entire class guys i'm giving you guys the permission to start small okay um because you can know in your business everything there is to know about a bottle of coochie a bottle of shave cream you can have every single sparkling folder to organize every single thing about in your brand new office or you can freeze yourself until you have an office um and you still don't have a party booked i downsized my office over the past six months um over the past couple years actually um clearly i do have a little bit more of like an actual space today because i am sitting in my brand new house um but my office is literally now it's it's this backpack it's a paper calendar okay and it's my phone which i can't show you because i'm on it um but with that being said guys i'm quick and easy ready first things first i always start every single january okay with um every single january organize your life okay organize your life now what does this mean detox your brain space we every every day with times okay and time suckers are the biggest space our our every single day that we have every single day guys we our our office space is here it is not what is on this wall behind me if you guys could see my whole entire like this is my pretend office right now it is right next to cooper's room um this is not my office space my office space is literally up here so in order for you to get into the right space emotionally physically mentally you got to get here and that is to take the time suckers out of your life and it is not just business related what does this mean we don't know what is sucking the time out of us in order for even to operate our businesses so first things first you have to declutter we all have the same amount of time now don't get me wrong we all have things to do we might have more things to do on our today on our day list i i completely understand that trust me the trick is to declutter the stuff that is cluttering your free time so i'm going to challenge you all over the next 10 days seven if you're like super overachiever um to just take this list and declutter your free time and if you're like jen i have literally no free time you have free time because even in the next 20 minutes that you are listening to my class you can do some of this number one unfollows people on social media who negatively affect you or do not add value to your day okay this can literally be done in the next five minutes or it can be done in five minutes in the toilet okay straight up and you're gonna be amazed how freeing this is and the reason i'm telling you to do this is because it's also gonna free up time for your clients so you can follow up a lot easier you can um follow up with your hostess leads follow up with your team members follow up with people who you need to be following up with number two donate clothing you do not wear okay donate things and i'm telling you this because it does relate to your business because when your space is clean your space is clean okay during cooper's nap time on christmas eve yes on christmas eve while i was literally getting ready for a house full of people i got rid of stack a stack full of business casual dresses that i will literally never wear again that i am like emotionally attached to but i'd love to i love to wear the national training world conference why did i get rid of them they're just too dressy for me right now i haven't worn them in three years i just don't feel like i'm thriving in them at the moment they don't bring joy to me i'm emotionally attached to them because i like the way i look at them but i donated them to a friend she works an office job every single day if i want to borrow when i can i know where they are it took me 30 minutes during his nap time done number three clean out expired products and things you don't use from your bathroom or kitchen now this is going to be like the longest one i'm going to tell you to do guys this is like a total about two hours okay each room and usually the longest i suggest devoting the time however if you don't have the time every single time you go into like your your your spice rack or your bathroom take one product out one product out um tossing or donating whatever you feel the most comfortable with depending upon how old it is the reason being it's gonna lie to feel less cluttered so that when you get a to-do list going with your business or with your personal life you're not gonna feel so overwhelmed because the rest of your life is not so overwhelming do you see where my like my mindset is going with this guys because when you're in a small space and you get it you have a major to-do list to do you're not going to feel so overwhelmed by everything around you okay cancel subscription services you don't use i'm looking at you paramount okay the yellowstone finale is tonight y'all can cancel it tonight i promise okay um you can do this literally tonight set yourself an alarm organize your computer and delete docs and software that you don't use i literally just like on my computer i've never had to download google chrome ever for stream yard i had to download it i'm going to delete it the second off of this i don't know what just happened it's going off my computer the second i'm off of this um who knew how much stuff i had downloaded right um organize your phone and delete apps so i go i do this like once a quarter are 11 000 pictures necessary the answer is no they are not i do this on airplanes that's the only time i do it's the only time i have time to do it and declutter your car i do this one-on-one pumping gas it takes a minute and i do this because when i'm at parties to and from parties it gives me anxiety i'm driving to parties so and i went through that quickly guys because the reason i tell you this is there is running a successful daily life starts with efficiency okay organization is efficiency it is not pretty like tupperware containers i love pretty temporary containers just as much as the next person i i would love to live a life like hgtv that is not me i like to reuse um i'm like so bad with like mirroring i'm i love to reuse like cardboard i'm like all about like trying to recycle and stuff so honestly i keep everything and um what corporate son does i just that's just me okay so it's not necessarily organization it's running efficiently it's giving yourself the permission um yet again the key word of the class is permission to release what no longer serves you to focus on what does serve you okay so those things this is getting rid of the things that no longer serves you so you can focus on the things that do serve you right so those are the things you're you're getting rid of your your time suckers and the things that overwhelm you so that you can focus on okay now if i'm getting rid of the things that are giving me anxiety that are giving me overwhelm so i can get on the down and dirty on how to run my business more efficiently it's giving you permission to concentrate on what does um on what is going to make me more successful this year what is going to make you more successful this year um now my tips guys are are great for not only the paper girl but also the digital girl because i am a mixture of both of those worlds um i used to be strictly old school only only paper and i have like willingly welcomed the digital world because of the fact that we as a society we have moved into digital and i am no longer like strictly only 80 years old like i i literally was very strictly only 80 years old when it came to being paper um but any of the tips i want to preface it with this though as a society we get so excited to make lists okay so when you when i go through these when i go through these business tips guys we get so excited to make a list and then we surprise surprise yet again because we hear the word organization and we're like i'm gonna do all these lists and by the way guys when you're listening to these classes we get frozen through our list like okay i'm gonna do all these things for 2022. i can't wait to make my list because they're so they're so big stop making your list as a list get out a sticky note pad and make it on that what does that mean guys um i don't have my sticky note pad of course lifted out with cooper um if you can't commit it out to writing it on a sticky note pad and what does this mean you're really gonna get a sticky note pad out um or if you like to recycle that again please reuse like junk scrap mail um i don't have any junk scrap metal here just like your jug mail like caught up in a scrap sheets of paper and use the blank side of it and write your to-do list so only one thing is on that sticky note or and when you are done with it only one thing you're ripping off at a sheet at a time so you're only seeing one to do thing at a time not the whole list guys it's not overwhelming you so that you're not only when you are working guys and you're working you can see your dishes and you can see your child and you can see your dog running around and you can see your mask you can see your laundry when you are working you're working on one thing at a time and your most important thing is on the top you're working in order and the reason why i do this guys is because i need to make sure that i know what my most important task is in the least important task and you're working in order of what is the most important um right now my most important task is the second i'm done with this is probably to turn off my oven because i entirely forgot um and then my least important task is going to be the fact i have to put together like cooper's dresser right because he's he's already got like his clothes put away in his closet right now um we're still living in our house so those are just some little tips okay um now what are some booking tips to keep you organized okay plan your life three months on advance i am talking to you i love to live my life for the seat of my pants person okay that's totally okay here's the thing you can be more confident in your business when you are working in small disorganized manner um or when you're working in small manner when you have control over one thing right your calendar so get a calendar out and fill out the days you want to do parties right so i literally play my life three months out in advance okay so and i you can print you can print a calendar you get a paper calendar you can get your google calendar out it does not matter um i'm always looking three months out and i plan out as jen kelly i don't do parties on weekends um i do parties monday through thursdays um you know when i after i cooper all of 2020 i only did parties two days and thursdays period there was no other days i did parties done because it worked around eric and my schedule eric runs three businesses and it was the best days for him to be able to watch cooper's cooper on tuesdays and thursdays only and it was over like that is literally how simple it was for us um so i knew schedule and date nights scheduling girls nights schedule yourself random days schedule yourself the days that you do not want to do parties just as much because they are just as valuable to your soul as much as the days where you want to do parties and make them non-negotiable um i don't care but three months in advance always so that when you are asked to do a party you can confidently say that okay now speaking of booking parties not only do you want to be confidently you can confidently have that with you at all points in time whether it is a paper calendar with you in your backpack or in your purse um or in your google calendar okay hostess packets now if you don't know what a hostess pack it is this is not a hostess class um just do a quick search on the training.pureromans.com website or in the diamond empire facebook group or sophisticated facebook group um but the hostess packets i i literally took i ripped the hostess packet information and i put it on a vista print rack card guys um i did not have access to my printer for a while so therefore when it came to printing them off i did not have access to it i had no way to reprint them so what did i do guys vistaprint i literally made them rack cards i stacked them literally that is how easy it was and i made i put them in my um party bag and it they were always in there 365 days a year and it was easy to refill them and they kept no room guys it was literally rack cards are this big so easy so simple they're double-sided there was info about making sure you invite you know no children no men over invite and there was sponsoring info on the back so easy so simple organizing leads i prefer a paper calendar um you guys can probably see this in here uh they can go on my purse my backpack and i marked actually this is actually a really good way to show you guys um because this is half of 2021 because it's the baby and stuff but i marked every single cancel scheduled party and lead and every month and then go back through and i do this in my notes a year or in a google you can also just like in your notes for your google calendar keep a running list of leads and go back through on the um for on that you can work through that so if you're like okay who rescheduled a party who um did not who was a lead this was my leads list for 2020 in 2019 like that is what i did and i went through this and just transferred it over like that is literally how simple that is guys done um and i keep this with me at all points in time and it took me two seconds to go through this and i will rewrite this in 2022's calendar because i haven't gotten that out yet um now from that cell tips and don't forget guys i'm not checking out the chat yet um i will be checking out the chat in a second um i have 10 minutes yet um so well i'm going to do five minutes out of talking then i'll go through it cell tips um take selfies okay so i take selfies in bulk okay so today i have makeup on um take selfies with product demos products around the house once every couple months in bulk to share you don't need an office you don't need setup needed people like to see people using products in natural habitat guys um so for instance right here in front of me i have these two little fun samples you can totally take a cute little selfie and if you're like jen i don't have any cute little ring light i don't have the money to buy one of those yet i'm brand new my business i you don't need one this is the light from my my brand new window here like this is literally the light for my window you don't need it look at this super fun and simple who wants a fun um these are dropped from your app right now guys if you're not utilizing that app like corporate is doing the stuff for you you don't need to have a shipping station they're sending out these from the app done okay um but you can literally send all this stuff okay so from there guys same thing like we've got a whole bunch of capri on sale um go through your products okay and just take fun selfies in a couple different outfits and you're done okay and not to mention and i'm not saying you're gonna be using your vibrators and snap a pet guys like that's not what you want to be doing but snap a pic with your new pier 29 20 long line when you get it in your skin care um snap and think about the pictures that you would stop to look at okay because your clientele is doing is doing business with you they're doing pure they're doing business with pyramids by you they're not doing business with like billboard they're doing pure romance by you business okay um now from there there is literally no reason why you speaking about why you couldn't be selling a thousand dollars a month in outside sales why um training.pyromance.com download the calendar while the calendar doesn't have a specific sales to schedule in every day you can drop teasers about the coupon code and sale coming in every week in your vip group then you can um update every single month every single week there's going to be an email that's going to be dropped with all the upcoming information utilize that information 15 minutes use it on your instagram story your facebook story and your vip group and just drop in that little um information from the corporate office that they're gonna be providing us with um and am i running out of time yep we got about five minutes okay perfect um and give us and give them the information that they that they need in order to correctly direct them oh my goodness here's gonna be the specific coupon or the specific deal that's coming up right because guess what you're now getting you're now getting the specific cells no office needed you don't need this large shipping station right now speaking of an office shipping station clearly i did run a flash sale um this was my shipping station so i did want to show you guys this beautiful thing i have here it's great right it's super fancy um it hid in my closet the entire time and it literally is the only bubble mailers i had it's like i don't know it's 14 inches wide and anything that did not fit in here i did not utilize um just you guys know this is all i from there guys follow-up tips um are you putting your parties into the back office guys the back office is so so important and here's my best back office um follow-up tip the reason why i asked you guys if you are putting them into the back office because i don't close my parties out for a month because once i close them out after a month is when i send out that text message or the facebook message saying hey i'm just popping in um want to make sure everything's going go with your party or with your party products do you have any questions do you need anything and i wrote it from me i don't do anything for fancy verbage because that's not me that's really not like hey love how are you no i just say hey want to follow up on heather's party from last month do you have any questions how are your products going super simple super easy and super silly from me um and do it on the go yet again fit it around your schedule and if once a month does not work for you guys do it once a quarter work it around that three month um party count or that three month planning schedule that i already talked about about pre-planning out for three months um and on top of that guys i also do stocked so my yet again small office guys it's my stock tips i'm trying to get this done as quickly as possible sorry guys um stock how i keep my office on the go i do four large 31 totes only and they never leave my car um however we do live in upstate new york extreme temperatures um there is one bag that has freezable things okay so meaning that they will break if they freeze so the toy tote or the toy cleaner and then the hot hearts they will break if they freeze like even if it gets below zero that comes out if it gets below zero just so you guys know everything else i just throw like a like an old quilt over top of it and it's fine um but everything else that's how i kept everything nice and like good in between so if i have literally no office it does not it does not get damaged just enough my eye so if you are literally operating with no space like you're living in a camper like i did um another thing is i wanted to share and i'm sorry that these are not as pretty as they were before um pretty things guys if you're like i really all i really wanted to do was like everyone keeps posting these uh how they're putting confetti and glitter in all their on all their packages that's really great guys but if you need to concentrate and you're in a bind on small office space um index cards like little like little cards note cards that's what matters most toss that in a back order and or hand write a note card to your clientele that's small it's what matters most you don't need to be putting confetti and glitter and making your things pretty a handwritten card is small and it is easy to keep in your new mobile office backpack and that's what you need to concentrate on not confetti and glitter and a whole bunch of other things i absolutely promise you the confetti glitter is not important the handwritten note card will be um two more things work as an environment yet again set yourself an alarm and work under uninterrupted for an hour give yourself permission to do this babysitters for my mom's this is important um if you don't have the money to do so yet swap with a team member um i actually need a babysitter as a 31 year old adult woman so i will literally go to my mother-in-law's and work she babysits me and i'm not ashamed to say that sometimes i will have to forcefully go and sit myself for an hour if i need to get the things done if you have a barking dog or jackhammering worker sitting outside your windows because you're building a home consider investing in um airpods guys are twenty dollars on amazon prime and you can focus on do whatever you need to do white noise guys seriously you don't need to listen to music um and that is literally my quick and dirty things was there all right questions that was 30 minutes look at you huh yeah um they definitely want your rack cards they would like to see or have the template for that please perfect i will upload that into diamond empire and sophisticates excellent all right guys uh everybody give big love to jen and uh get ready because we're gonna be back here in a hot minute with our next class bye y'all
