Late new year wishes and Thoughts on success. #business #entrepreneurship #motivation #nairobi
ah hello everyone uh i hope you're all doing well keeping safe i hope you're strong and healthy today okay so i'm really really glad to be back after quite a few months of silence you know i hope you've been well and also by the way happy new year you know the last video i posted was actually last year i think around september and this is the first time this year that you're actually interacting so for that i think i should just say happy new year and you know i'm wishing you all the best for this year so as you can already notice this is not your typical video this is more of a general video with the main aim and purpose of just basically welcoming you in this new year welcoming you in 2020 i know we are literally almost at the end of february which is the second month of of this year but we're still in the first quarter so come on i think uh we're still at the beginning of the year in a way and this is my way to officially you know welcome you in 2022. by the way by the way i think this is actually uh the month in which uh the year properly starts because january it's usually a festive month still you know we are still uh getting in the new year we're still trying to really readjust ourselves we're still thinking about december of the previous year you're not really fully in you know and it's really honestly by february march you know towards you know the middle of the quarter the first quarter that you are fully immersed you know in the new year and that you are basically uh trying to initiate the activities the plans the things that you're trying to make happen and to do so on that once again happy new year glad to be here glad to be back uh as i've already said i was just putting you in context and telling you that this video is just basically a general conversation a small chat you know just welcoming you in 2022 and tell you how excited i am about all the things i really have planned for you this year there are really really lots of things in store for you i won't really say much but there is quite a lot so you better stick around you better stick around because there's a lot of things coming so as we have already made basically two-thirds of the first quarter of 2022 this is actually a good time not necessarily to assess not necessarily to start looking back and you know figuring out what went right what went wrong but it's an interesting time just to pause a little bit and to evaluate uh how are our strategies our plans the things that we're trying to make happen how is it going so far of course every single one of you every single one of us we all have uh things that you want to achieve this year we all have you know actually every single year people come up with new year's resolutions they have you know plans you know they have lists of things that they want to achieve goals etc and as much as goals objectives uh plans etc can be really different from one person to another every single one of us every single one of you um wants to succeed you know we want by the end of the year to say i wanted to do this and this and that and i've been successful i've been able to achieve what i was planning to do and i think to kind of narrow it down to more of the context of this page is really to all my fellow entrepreneurs out there all the people that are trying to initiate businesses or who are already operating all the people that are creating brands all the people that are trying to make it happen in the business world we're trying to innovate who are trying to do things you know we all have things that you want to achieve we all want to be successful so as really we are trying to talk about success here i thought it would be really interesting to see what great people people who are known to have achieved great things see what they have to say about success learn a bit of what do they think about success what is their approach to success what is that conception of success because they have been successful they have done great things they have been recognized for achieving things that most people weren't able to achieve and therefore that put them in a position where they are more likely to possess knowledge and a certain perspective about success and about what it takes to reach there so having a perspective from them i thought that would really be interesting there are quite a few people that actually admire that i'm really inspired by all right so these are not really quotes from them it's more like statements um because i wanted just to get their perspective in a conversational setting all right so i think we'll start with michael jordan for those of you guys who don't know him um that's weird yeah anyways michael jordan uh i think it was in an interview or something and he was basically being questioned about his career uh the things that he has been able to achieve etc so this really is a statement that caught my attention um he says i quote i've missed more than 9 000 shots in my entire career i've lost almost 300 games 26 times i've been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed it i've failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why i succeed michael jordan this says a lot uh you know when you think of michael jordan that's not the first thing that comes to mind when you are anywhere and you mention his name you know the idea that comes attached to his name is greatness success excellence people do not mention the 26th time he was trusted to take a winning shot at mist people are rather inspired by what he has been able to achieve so why that because the accumulation of those failures over time are what helped him improve and become the legend that we know today and i think one key idea you can really get from this as an entrepreneur as as someone who's trying to make something happen is do not fear failure embrace it understand that failure is an inherent part of success not the opposite of success let me say that again failure is an inherent part of success not the opposite it is what you have to go through in order to be able to achieve what you want to achieve so we shouldn't be quote-unquote failure phobic we should actually be looking forward to fail more because we only learn through failure failure helps us grow all right so the second statement rather just thought about success that i i thought really was interesting is from will smith who is an incredible actor and has been able to really reach the highest peaks within the field that he chose to do which is acting and was also very known actually about his very thoughtful conversation and his very brilliant mind actually so here's what will smith has to say about success these are extracts from longer conversations that they've been having between interviews etc so here's what he has to say you've got to take a shot you have to live at the edge of your capabilities you got to live where you are almost certain you're going to fail he says failure actually helps you to recognize the areas where you need to evolve so fail early fail often fail forward so this is really deep typical from will smith um where do we start fail early fail often fail forward these three words really um say everything there is to say about success fail early in the sense that you have to start as early as possible um to try and do things that are challenging to you and do the things that you've always wanted to do regardless of whatever it is but doing taking action uh so many people have great ideas so many people have great plans but they don't try they don't dare to actually take the first step and you know just jump off the cliff and do what they have to do so fail early in the sense that you have to start early in the process you have to fail early in the process you'll fail either way you will have to fail so you rather fail early than staying with all these things in your soul in your mind that you want to get out the earlier starts the better it is because of course you're gonna fail but you're gonna learn from your failures and you're gonna learn early enough to actually be able to progress fail often fail often do not be afraid of failure actually failure is your friend failure is not a fatality but rather a step in the process leading up to success that's the perspective you should have on failure that's what i get from fail often the third and really most important one fail forward whatever that you're trying to do of course you'll fail of course you have to embrace that process but you have to fail forward the worst thing that can happen to you as a businessman as an entrepreneur as a creative is to make mistakes to fail but to be in a position where you're actually not learning anything from those experiences the whole purpose and the whole point of failure is to be able to learn and to be in a position where you possess a certain knowledge after having failed that you did not have before so the idea here is every single failure that you go through should actually be a boost pushing you forwards towards what you want to achieve rather than being a weight that is actually dragging you down and letting you sink so in a nutshell as much as you have to fail early as much as you have to fail often you certainly have to fail forward because that's the only way you're gonna grow so the next person i'm gonna quote today is actually someone who inspires me a lot too and i've been reading a few things about him and he has been able to achieve a substantial amount of things and innovate and initiate in a way that has rarely been done in the past is steve jobs of course so i think the mind is not to be introduced but anyways just for the sake of context he is the co-founder of april and he has been the chairman for a few years so here's what he has to say about success he says your work is going to fill a large part of your life and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work and the only way to do great work is to love what you do that's another element of success you really have to be in touch with what it is that you are truly passionate about and i know that really sounds cliche in a sense because you know you have all these videos online uh where they tell you you know drop everything follow your passion of course there's there is a method to the madness there's a strategy that has to be followed you don't just drop everything and say okay you know i've always been into music so i forget about everything else and i'm just gonna leave everything and go start my career you know it doesn't work like that but the idea here is for you to be able to reach the highest peaks the highest levels within the industry in which you are trying to operate or okay when i say industry it sounds more focused and contextualized whatever it is that you're trying to do whatever it is that you're actually passionate about there is a field within which there is a certain ranking and hierarchy of how much can be done how much has been done what's the highest you can go all right steve jobs is technology and innovation for you i don't know what it might be but here we are talking in a business entrepreneurial perspective so you want to create something you want to come up with something we all know deep within ourselves the things that we truly enjoy doing and trust me being able to connect with whatever it is that we are truly truly passionate about that's one thing you would do without necessarily even feeling the need to be paid for doing it that is what you should focus on i'm allowing myself for a few minutes for a few seconds to just keep this topic as broad as possible because when you focus on that specific aspect of yourself you work on it that's the only way you will ever be able to make a significant and substantial impact not only on yourself but on all the people that will actually be exposed to whatever it is that you do that's how you really and truly achieve impact so an idea that you have that project that you have that concept that you have don't just think about it and dismiss it do something as do something about it start something initiate something about it and trust me you'll not regret later so yeah that is really kind of an essence i got from this as i can just wrap it up you are definitely most likely to be successful by doing that rather than excel in an industry that is not really in tune with what you truly are so by doing what you love you are maximizing the chances of actually being successful because the amount of efforts that goes into achieving great things can only be met by the level of passion we have towards something that you are truly passionate about and that level of commitment cannot come from someone who is half into something all right so the only way i can put this in a nutshell is the amount of effort dedication commitment that goes into achieving success at the highest level within whatever it is that you're trying to to achieve is so high that's the only way you can actually be able to reach there is to genuinely be passionate about it i hope i'm making sense because if you are not completely immersed you will not be willing to do all that is actually required you'll not be willing to go the extra mile be willing to do all the extra work that would be necessary in order to reach there and to completely be so obsessed that you won't even make sense to the people around you so you better pick something you are completely obsessed with that's the only way you can reach really the highest levels of impact and of success in whatever it is that you're trying to do so the last person on a quote here is uh definitely great leader and he's among the people i really admire you know it's among the people that actually inspire me in many ways well he's not in entertainment industry or in sports or in technology he's into politics and that is mr barack obama the 44th president of the united states the first black president of the united states so here's a short statement that he made that actually really like um change will not come if wait for some other person or if you wait for some time you know we are the ones we have been waiting for i don't know if this is an extract from a speech that he had or something but that's that's really true so we might have ideas plans things that we want to achieve etc and for some of us the only thing stopping us from taking action is i don't think i can actually put this up by myself i don't i don't think i'm ready enough or i don't think i have uh what it takes or you know so many reasons that we come up with and we usually end up putting it outside um in the sense that we are waiting for something or someone to you know uh do something that will allow us to to actually take action it's all an internal game it's all comes from you it's always and will always be first about what you decide to do and everything else comes later on if you are not confident in yourself already nothing else can be done that is the base that is the foundation so i'd like to tell you however big your goal is however complex it might be however far-fetched it might seem just do one thing today only one thing however small it might be if it's just picking up your journal and writing something down if it's recording a voice note about what it is that you actually want to do just do it basically just do something that will make you feel like you are a step closer to where you want to be a step closer to what you want to achieve however small that step is just do it do something that will get you started on your path to achieving your goal however small however tiny there is a huge and enormous weight and difference in taking action as small as it might seem that is what i encourage you to do today so um i do not want to take more of your time the main idea behind this was to first welcome you in 2022 officially second just share a little word with you to inspire you hopefully you and to just motivate you to take action let's focus on what truly matters for us let's inspire the people around us let's have an impact on them through what we do all the best and see you in the next one happy new year
