Wait wait wait.... Edward III got his claim to the French throne from his grandfather Philip IV of France trough his mother Isabella. He was the closet male relative but the French really didn’t want to be ruled by the English so they went from semi Salic law where Edward would’ve gotten the crown to full Salic law which barred Edward because his claim was through his mother

Gay or Trans? Being as faithful a Catholic Joan was, I doubt either was true. She was a maiden pursuing chastity, after all. Regardless of orientation, her only goal was to fulfill God's will. Her orientation is simply irrelevant, and if anything to call her gay or trans is an attempt to whimsy an icon 'sympathetic' to your politics when such things as transgender was not even a concept in the West nor was homosexuality acceptable. Don't change history to fit your politics.

One of the paintings is t"The Trial of St. Joan" . after the case is solved the widow comments: "I should have known the painting was a fake, my husband told me, when considering a painting of St. Joan, she was a peasant girl, slopping pigs, hoeing fields, washing clothes, she probably was quite ugly."
The Edwardian claim to the French throne originated via his mother Isabella who is a most interesting character herself and the whole saga surrounding her affair with Mortimer and the overthrow of Edward II. Isabella was the daughter of Philip IV, another very interesting character. After Philips death along with his sons and a grandson left Isabella's son Edward III as the senior agnatic-cognatic successor. France used agnatic succession meaning the next in line were the Valois who descended from Phillip IV's brother. What actually sparked the fire was the relationship of the Plantagenet Kings of England as vassal to the king of France. This was indeed a relationship that dated back to William the Conqueror and at its height under the Angevin Empire/Kingdom saw the English King having control of most of Western France. This had declined over time and it was squabbles over the remaining territories that directly sparked the war.

Whilst I enjoy your potted biographies I really wish you'd give serious consideration to avoiding or at least reducing your use of the construction "Charles V, he wanted...", "the French, they decided...", "her visions, they just stopped" and so on, which you use extremely frequently and it jars. It's common in 17th/18th century ballads, but nowadays should really only be used for particular emphasis and therefore not as a matter of routine.

Actually, Joan of Arc didn't know what she was signing while she was in prison. She never learned how to read and very likely just made a mark on the document that would have counted as a signature as she didn't know how to write. Can you do a biographic on Robert the Bruce?
I first heard about Joan of Arc by playing the campaign in Age of Empires II. She is the most inspirational woman in european history to me. Others may have been intelligent and powerful rulers, like Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria, Maria Theresia, Catherine the Great etc, but none of them fought to liberate their country from foreign oppression on the field of battle. A book I can recommend about Joan is the one written by Pamela Marcantel. Its a shame Hollywood never made a big movie about this except the one with Mila Jovovich but imo that one wasnt so good.

as far as I know she technically did die a Saint according to the Catholic Church. I'm pretty sure being recognized as a Saint means you were that way when you died. You are made a Saint by God and then the Church just confirms it or whatever when they announce someone as a Saint. This is why they wait for "post death miracles" to prove someones Sainthood. Because these prove the person is a Saint already the Church just "makes it official" for the history books or whatever.

@TheStapleGunKid she is noted for deeds on the battlefield but not a tactical commander. She would be in battle but not directing units as far as I know and I don't claim to be an expert. While that might make her a "inspirational" in addition to a warrior I wouldn't say she is just inspirational. She was heavily involved in strategy. By this I mean decisions of what city to attack, what siege to lift, should we pursue the enemy after the battle and things of this nature. Sometimes her suggestions would be taken, other times not but she did have major influence on the strategy of France which makes her much more than just an inspiration to the men. She was "at the table" or "in the War Room" so to speak with the King and Generals. Overall I would classify her strategy as very successful and significant in the outcome of that conflict so I hold her in high esteem.

@Bradly Dylan I know you're asking "Choza" and not me, but in my opinion it makes a lot of difference: suicide would mean she gave up hope, regretted all she did etc. "Trying to escape" would be the opposite: not giving up, believing God was on her side and would help her etc...
