journey that we've been on for a little over two years well since that grand idea hit me in the back of my head very very succinctly we have gone from zero subscribers starting from the bottom to where we are right now right so we started from the bottom now we're here i know right exciting in just two short years we have been able to take this youtube channel from absolutely nothing to a true fixture in the success of cheryl c perez enterprises and i am so grateful so thankful and so excited that we made this journey together so if you want to take your marketing and your business to the next level and utilize youtube and grow your business through youtube the same way that i did keep watching because today i am going to walk you through the steps that you need to embark upon in order to go from zero to ten thousand and from idea and passion to thriving empire keep watching [Music] [Music] hello my loves welcome back to cptv i'm cp of course and this is the place for aspiring and growing entrepreneurs who want to turn their ideas and passions into businesses and those businesses and to empires of freedom so if that sounds like you you are going to want to go ahead below and subscribe but also drop me a line in a comment because i am so excited to hear what your vision is for your business and youtube and i would love to give you some feedback and some ideas because today we are going to dive right into these steps that i embarked upon over two years ago just a little over two years ago when we started with no subscribers and have gotten all the way to 10 000 but aside from that success that you've seen on my youtube channel you have also got to hear the deets on the success that it has brought to my business so let's get to work all right so now that we got those formalities out of the way let's get into these steps step number one determine if youtube is a good fit for your business now there are multiple ways that i decided to do this and i can tell you and you've probably seen my videos before on doing a ceo retreat if not i'm going to go ahead and link to your walking through it's kind of a vlog that i did about my ceo retreat now this vlog was not the year that i actually took the time during my retreat to figure out what my big marketing strategy was going to be it was actually the year before but during that retreat is when i really dove deep into what the vision was for how i was going to step up my marketing game and my business and begin to transition into more of an online business environment and to being able to provide along with my existing consulting services some coaching and training and teaching services that i really really felt were true to my heart and true to me fulfilling my purpose so on that retreat i came up with this idea to use either youtube or a podcast for marketing purposes and in order for me to make my decision between the two because both were very very popular i had to really figure out if youtube was going to be a good fit for my business so these were some of the things that i had to really dive into and that i recommend you dive into as well as you do this step step number one determining if it's going to be a good fit first you have to understand the power of youtube and boy oh boy is it powerful there are over 5 billion users that tap into youtube on a daily basis to find video content that's going to teach them inform them or entertain them youtube has been around for a very long time and it is still the number one platform for video so before i could decide if youtube was the fit for me i had to first really understand its power how many people utilized it who was utilizing it how long were they utilizing it how were they utilizing it and that meant that i had to make sure that youtube was a good fit for me my audience and ultimately my vision i also had to make sure that i had a product or service that i could show and tell and you do as well youtube isn't the best platform if you don't have a product or service that you can show people how to use or tell people inform people and educate people it is truly an educational platform people go to youtube to learn how to do things haven't you ever heard the term youtube university well it is truly used for that purpose and i've had general conversations with people in day-to-day lives that they say if you want to learn how to do something go to youtube if you want to learn how to change the oil in your car go to youtube i know people who have gone from housewives to mechanics i know people who have gone from accountants to building things in their home all because they have utilized the powerful platform that youtube is and that's one of the things that you really need to analyze if you don't have a product or service that is a show and tell type of product or service i'm not going to say that youtube wouldn't be a good fit for you but it's definitely going to be harder for you to gain traction to get those subscribers and to keep them coming back absorbing your content because it really truly is an educational need to see visual type of platform now there's so many different social media platforms out there and technically youtube is also a social media platform so don't get that twisted okay it is truly social media but it's very unique in the sense that the ideal type of business that's going to be able to really gain traction and really move forward using youtube are ones that can show customers how to use their product or service what their product and service can be used for or also educate them and provide that intellectual property that will give people a glimpse into what that service and that intellectual property is so for me because training and coaching and consulting is a big big part of what i do it's really what i do youtube was a perfect idea and fit for my business now in order to also determine if youtube was a good fit for my business i had to make sure that my customers my ideal customers were actually on youtube and so do you if you find that your ideal customer and i've done so many videos on figuring out who your ideal customer is figuring out what their demographics are figuring out what their psychographics are make sure you check them out they are on the channel they're in the playlists i can go ahead and link to one right here for you as well but i had to figure out if my customers were really here and that means knowing who my customer is the reason why i say if they're really on youtube is because some of you may have ideal customers that prefer to use instagram or snapchat or tick tock or even facebook and if that's the case those are the platforms that you need to focus on utilizing to grow your business for me however my customers evidently all the evidence all the research that i did show that they are on youtube they are using youtube so that was also one more feather in the cap for youtube over about a podcast also i had to figure out if youtube was the perfect platform for me my skills and what i do well and let me break this down for you when i was really deciding between youtube and a podcast it became evident to me that i am a public speaker at heart i am a trainer at heart i teach and guide and coach people and i love doing that but i always found in my marketing research and in looking at my analytics and my business in the past that when i would go out and face to face publicly interact with people do a public speaking gig deliver content through public speaking my leads coming into my business would skyrocket every single time and so many of my leads that had come from my public speaking gigs were great amazing ideal customer leads and i'm saying that because you know as well as i do that you can attract and get some customers that ain't so great all right but when i was out there face to face in the public talking to people my leads were immense and they were amazing leads so i knew okay cp speaking is a strong suit of yours but face to face speaking is even stronger and that was really what made me lean more towards youtube which is video based versus just podcasting which is just audio based now i'm not saying that podcasting isn't in my future marketing strategy or marketing mix but i also realized that if i focus on growing on youtube using the video that in the future if i wanted to expand into podcasting i could just repurpose that same content pull the audio out of some of these videos and actually just put them on the podcast so i wouldn't have to reinvent that wheel so it made it very very easy for me to say yes youtube is the perfect platform for me it highlights my strong suits it highlights what i'm good at i've seen evidence in my business in the past that public speaking and talking to people directly was a good fit for me my audience was on this platform i understood the power and was excited about the power of youtube and i knew that i offered services that were perfect for show and tell so again step number one figure out if youtube is a good fit for your business utilizing those four things that i just brought up and now we're gonna talk about step number two okay step number two learn and commit to the youtube journey because it is a journey my love so what do i mean first i know that i had to learn what it took to have a successful youtube channel so when i mentioned to you that retreat that i was on in the very first step after i decided all right guys youtube is going to be where i go then it became imperative for me to spend lots and lots of time learning as much as i could about youtube about this platform because remember i told you we started at zero subscribers i was not a youtuber or a content creator i was the person that would go out to youtube to search to try to figure out how to do something and i never really even used my youtube channel um to do anything other than to go to other people's stuff so it was brand spanking new for me i spent hours and hours and hours on that retreat learning two of my favorite youtube teachers for me specifically one was sean cannell at think media i actually enrolled almost immediately in one of sean can of sean cannell's webinars and courses and sat there and what might take people like a month or two months to get through i knocked through the entire course and one night because i needed to understand all the specifics and all the details i needed to learn about equipment i needed to do all kinds of stuff because we had been doing videos for our trainings and for our clients in the past so i did have some idea about cameras and lighting and mics and things like that but i didn't know if there was a big difference between what i was using for internal content and to provide like kind of custom training to my clients as well or versus what i needed to actually use to make youtube videos youtube videos right i didn't even understand how the algorithm worked i didn't understand what content was being consumed what consumers and subscribers wanted to consume and so sean cannell think media was instrumental in providing me with what i needed in order to really begin to create that strategy the second instructor that i used and that i still use and i still love to this day was sunny lenarduzzi i spent hours binging all of her content she was a little different than sean because shawn was really focused on starting your youtube channel the equipment that goes along with it the details of kind of how to customize and maximize youtube but sunny was a little different in the sense that she was using youtube to grow her outside consulting business she was using youtube as a marketing tool to grow her business and there's a lot of people on youtube that are really truly just content creators and they actually want to build a career around creating content and having their youtube channel is their business well i was in a different boat i already had a business and wanted to use youtube to grow my business and so sunny was amazing in that respect she gave away such amazing content that i was able to binge for free that when it really came down time for me to enroll in her um boss um youtube for bosses was a course i was like i don't even know if i need to take the course because she's given me so much great free content but eventually i did realize that in order to really get down deep into it i had to actually access more of that internal paid content from her because i wanted the nitty gritty and i wanted the step by steps um and that really isn't provided in free content same thing on cptv y'all i get the same questions all the time how do you know what content to put on you know youtube versus how much you should put in your page stuff and sunny actually framed it for me perfectly because i was having a hard time understanding what mindset i should have too she said youtube is best utilized for the what when you are describing to people steps or what they need to do in order to get to a certain goal or order in order to get to a certain result your paid content is used for the how the step-by-step nitty gritty showing people walking through and that's exactly the philosophy that i have adopted in my business but i needed to learn everything there was and for two whole days i did nothing around the clock including not showering not brushing my teeth not putting my hair together nothing just learning everything i could learn about this amazing platform because i knew it was going to be not only an investment of money but also of time and i wanted to make sure that it was actually going to help me create an overall strategy the biggest thing that i realized in all of that learning is that and i want you to know this is that you have to understand the pros and the cons and if you can commit to youtube it is a commitment my love commit meant all right it is not for the faint of heart it is not for the easy give uppers it is truly truly truly a platform that takes time it is a marathon very similar to starting and growing a business so if you understand the marathon and you've got that mindset of being an entrepreneur being a youtube entrepreneur is not going to be any different for you it is a journey it takes time you have to know it you have to understand the pros and the cons of going with it like being consistent producing good content you know having the commitment to record the videos making sure that your videos and your content impact people and that people can actually watch your free video and walk away and implement something and actually get results from it so that it forms that relationship so after i went through learning everything i could from think media sean and then also from sunny i realized here's all the pros and the cons and i wrote them out now the pros and the cons for me might be different for you because i was also running a different type of business than you might be running or i may be in business a little bit longer than you or whatever the case may be so i totally recommend that you as you continue to learn and embark and and watch this continued series that i'm about to keep bringing y'all on how to use youtube to grow your your um your business because i'm pumped about where we are and this is just the beginning y'all okay we tried to get to 50 000 and then 100 000 subscribers and just to continue to have that impact but i wrote out my own list of pros and cons because they were very custom to me and then i said to myself can i deal with the cons and can i maximize utilization of the pros and after i did that and i determined yes i moved on to step number three so step number three in growing your business using youtube is to create a marketing strategy using youtube you guys know me i have talked to you about this before in the past you cannot move on if you don't have a game plan and that game plan is so critical to having success and growing your business on youtube you have to have a direction you have to know where you want to go and you have to see yourself in that marketing strategy so for me the biggest things was and i would tell you the first step for you as well is figuring out what your goals and objectives are when it comes to using youtube to grow your business what do you want out of youtube do you want to grow your email list do you want to make a name for yourself do you want to you know show your brand and make sure that people recognize who you are or do you just want to practice some of the things that you need to do in order to be able to test out your products or services whatever it is figure out your goals and objectives and make sure that you've got a complete plan and strategy moving forward doesn't have to be anything complicated mine might have been a one or two pager don't worry about it um actually now that i mention it i will include for you down below a free cheat sheet on exactly what you should include in your overall marketing strategy that cheat sheet checklist outline whatever you want to call it is yours so make sure that you grab it because it's going to really help you put the framework together on how you want to use youtube in your business it's going to help you put together who your ideal customer is if they're on youtube what are some of the action items what are some of the specific things that you need to do so i want to make sure that you can grab that so please make sure that you do it's yours for free and i'm giving it to you even though some of my students have already paid for access to it i want to make sure that you have access to it as well but in any case figuring out your goals and your objectives for your business and for your channel are going to be critical you also are going to want to figure out what type of content you want to create right and what your content strategy is going to be and how often you're going to produce that content are you going to do weekly videos or bi-weekly videos or monthly videos i actually started out with this strategy that said i am going to do two videos per week if you have been watching cptv and have been an avid cpt or tvr since the beginning you know that we used to do videos every tuesday and every friday friday was more designed to be a fax friday where i could answer questions of my audience and of my students and i can tell you we did that for maybe 60 days and it became totally overwhelming i was like girl you are tripping so my team was also like tripping on me and they kept trying to like slide in and tell me this is crazy that we're doing two videos a week so we ultimately did adjust our strategy and reduce it down to one video a week so if you've been watching cptv since the beginning and you're wondering to yourself cheryl you used to make two videos what happened to that that's what happened boo okay it was a lot it was too much i underestimated what it was going to take and overestimated my bandwidth to get that done so again figure out what your content plan is going to be figure out what type of content you're going to put out is it how to's is it going to be demos is it going to be the different types of marketing videos that you can use to grow your business here's a hint i'm going to do a whole another video coming up the next couple of weeks on that exact topic what kind of videos you can produce but anyway figure out what you want to do and figure out how often you want to upload i would totally recommend at least once per week that is going to keep you consistent that is going to keep the content fresh in your audience and that's going to keep them getting what they need from you in order to develop that relationship but step 3 is pretty much create your strategy make your outline figure out your plan and then we're gonna move on to step number four actually getting it done okay step number four in using youtube to grow your business is to set up your channel for youtube success and for business success they are both important when i say set up your channel i mean just that over the course of learning everything there was to know about using youtube i learned so much about the importance of everything that you see visually when you go to someone's channel things like the channel art the banner that's included your profile picture how your channel itself is organized what your trailers looks like and what it is whether you're going to actually have like an intro that brands you what your thumbnail brands are going to be you want it to be consistent and you want it to be professional your youtube channel think of it like your marketing and information system it is very much so a training website for you so all of the same things that you think about making a good website a good website are the same types of things that you want to make sure you're implementing when you're setting up your channel to make it a good website for you as well it has to be clean it has to be professional it has to be consistent especially if you are trying to attract people into your business right if i got a youtube channel that looks like crap everything's all over the place i don't have a real you know banner i ain't got no real good profile picture it's kind of all over the place the perception that you're communicating to potential subscribers is that you are all over the place and that you are a mess and that they really shouldn't click that subscribe button because when you are getting someone to subscribe you are getting them to commit to wanting to receive your content and trust me not everybody who watches your videos are going to ultimately subscribe the first time some people are going to watch maybe one two three four five videos and then eventually they'll say in their minds i really like this person i really like this content and i want to make sure i don't miss any of it so i'm going to click that subscribe button but you might see that you have a video that has like you know 50 000 views but you may not have 50 000 subscribers so the key is making sure that your channel itself is set up in a way that attracts people to actually want to stay with you and learn from you in the long run and for the long haul so setting up your channel is going to be critical and i can't get into the details now but of course i have a whole nother video over the next few weeks that we'll be diving deeper into exactly how to do that step by step so make sure that you do subscribe if you haven't already done so and click the notification bell because i'm actually gonna do a screen share and walk you through for the very first time how to set up your channel properly and some tips and some tools that i have used to again go from zero to ten thousand subscribers y'all obviously we're doing something right over here so i'm gonna go ahead and share that with you all right i had to get up for step number five because it is a biggie but it's also the scariest step for most people and step number five in building and growing your business using youtube is to create and upload videos my love i say that in the way that i say it because it's the scariest part biggest piece of advice that i can give you is just to do it okay imperfect action is better than no action at all if you aren't looking at yourself saying oh my god i don't even know if i can put myself on video which is a lot of the feedback that i get try it if you've ever just taken your phone and doing it in selfie mode and actually recorded a video of yourself to put it anywhere you can do a youtube video trust me so you've gotta create and upload videos you've gotta try your very first video is going to be much much worse than your video a year or two years in let me give you an example when you are starting a business growing a business or taking a business to the next level the advice and the opinions you get can be overwhelming confusing and quite frankly annoying trust me i know in my 25 years i have heard it all whether i asked or not so it is extremely important to know how to filter the noise and get the advice that you need from the right people in today's facts fridays you will find out who i've gotten advice from as a businesswoman and who you should tap into for the guidance you need when you need it let's get to work i know right it's crazy when i see some of those but you gotta start somewhere is my point and again you have to be consistent with when you upload so often i'm working with folks or i see folks that want to grow a following and they want to grow on youtube and they just have the biggest pieces just being consistent they just don't put videos up regularly when you are building an audience they are going to expect content from you and if you don't post it you're letting them down then eventually you become kind of out of out of um sight out of mind right you don't want to be out of sight out of mind you want to make sure that you are in their site so that you stay on their mind that's the purpose of growing your business using youtube so being consistent is critical one of the best ways that i stay consistent with you guys is that i batch record my videos no i'm running a business i don't have time to record videos every single week although when i do improper planning sometimes i find myself in that very space i still kind of bust it out and do it but generally i like to batch record my videos two to four videos at one time are recorded and that's because i know that i allow myself one concrete time per month to really produce content it also allows me to put the time in to creating what that content is going to look like youtube isn't the type of platform if you really want to grow it and you really want to grow your business using it that you can just haphazardly throw crap up right you have to really be strategic you have to make sure that the topics are searchable topics that people are interested in those topics that you know what the keywords are that you know what the tags are that you look i won't get into all that right now i do a whole nother video on that a little bit later on so make sure you stay tuned to this little series i'm about to embark upon but in any case the content that you produce has to be consistent and it has to be valuable and the impact of that content is the most important thing so don't worry if you don't have perfect cameras or perfect lighting or perfect sound i am going to get into what that equipment looks like later on as well but if it's not perfect it's okay just start the most important thing about creating content on your channel is to create good content however many takes that that that it that takes however many takes that takes how many takes that takes takes that takes anyway you know what i'm trying to say all right however many takes it takes for you to be able to get that content good and valuable and impactful do it because that is key when you are trying to grow your business and your youtube channel using it to grow your business so guys i have to tell you youtube has changed my life it has changed my concept of what i can pull off and what can be done and it's also helped me have a better understanding of what i can really use and what's available out there to really grow my business if you are thinking and you are on the fence about whether or not you should start a youtube channel and if a youtube channel can help your business trust me it will you've got to get going i am so thankful and so excited and so pumped and so immensely blessed that each of you have been watching and on this journey with us from zero to ten thousand subscribers i was so pumped when we actually hit it and i just want you to know it took us a while to get to a thousand subscribers but from a thousand to ten thousand it was less than a year that speaks volumes to the blood sweat and tears you too can grow a successful business using youtube and again if you didn't subscribe please make sure you do so like this video share it click that bell so you get notifications because the next few weeks i'm about to kick you in the butt with teaching you what i've learned to get to 10 000 subscribers giving you all the tips and tools until next time my love have a good one stay safe [Music]
