what is that jams you hear welcome to cheese Runners so this is a game that I genuinely thought was a joke until I realized it's not this is a cyberpunk cheese trading underground uh game about post-capitalism and uh the Underground Market of cheese I'm gonna read the kind of tldr in a second but before we say anything else I think I should say this game is on Steam and it's three dollars nobody's played it it seems to have just kind of completely flown under the radar and that's just kind of my my jam right also I love ASCII and I also seem to like synthwave stuff because it you know it's easily appealing right um this is a score based pretty short game about trading cheese on the Underground so you you buy sell trade there's some light combat uh with three different options where you can fight run or ditch your cheese uh you buy low sell high it's that kind of thing there's a lone shark there's a bank you can accrue interest it's that kind of thing uh but we're just going to jump into the help screen real quick because that's where the lore is I'm gonna read the lore story for you and then we're gonna dive into a little bit of gameplay after we do this about thing uh so first off shout outs to a design and writing uh programming Arts music Etc all of that and everything else um this game runs in the Gadot engine but it does actually have mouse support too which I think is kind of incredible but I'm gonna be using keyboard um so here we have our intro what happens when the societal death spiral of hyper consumerism meets the results of backfired biote terrorism it's a world with ultra Elite corporate shareholders that meets the desperate overpopulated and polluted streets of an over urbanized world with the population kept barely alive to avoid riots and revolution is a steady stream of the Inspire spit when the auto when the automation does the important work the humans are left Scavenging while the others are fighting for social Rank and control of the profits against the Machinery of the corporate control one resource is almost eviscerated and it gives rise to an underground culture you can say that again cheese the luxury the diversity the memory of better times with most livestock eliminated due to the plague of mysterious origin cheese has become an illicit commodity unable to synthesize and Jason the bio labs and food factories can't scratch the itch of this cultural Legacy with corporations unable to control its production they bought politicians to make it an illicit good thanks to small enclaves of surrounding livestock and brave underground cheese syndicates operate to provide this forbidden Delight you've now got the opportunity to make it as a cheese Runner buying and selling the Kurds to fulfill people's secret desires and you've had to get financing from a loan shark who runs this crowd and now you can make it in the underground now and now can you make it in the underground world of cheese running I feel like there's a comma missing in there somewhere but anyway that's this um under here it says we buy sell and trade six different types of cheese to make a profit see how much money you can make within 30 turns which is 30 moves uh or 30 traveling sessions right uh and you can only hold a total amount of cheese equal to your hold rating okay combat you can fight you can run or you can ditch fighting you use drones to hack enemy killbots and hack money out of them run uh you try to escape escape the kill box and they do get one free hit attempt each time you can take damage or if you succeed you run away and then ditch you throw all your cheese in the ditch and you run and to get away for free that's like a last ditch effort if you're in trouble um so we're gonna jump into the options mode real quick and I just want to point out that there's Pixel Perfect options um if you're a horrible person you can turn on this CRT effect uh if you don't value uh your eyes you can make the screen brighter and um well I mean it's more of like a glow effect but I'm not a fan of more of I like the harsh blacks and then the the colors um there's music volume obviously in audio effects but there's also color palettes now you unlock these I've unlocked two of them uh on my first run so there's like this velvet this one's nice and soft I quite like it and then there's this Cali nights I like games that let me unlock color palettes big in on that but we're gonna use the default one for this run just to kind of showcase the game and let's Dive In welcome to cheese Runner cheese Runner all right so right off the bat I'm gonna explain the UI real quick top left that's our turn counter here I can actually play with the mouse because this game does have mouse support right and when you move the mouse on the screen this appears you can actually click this to like play with Mouse um so we got uh turn one out of 30 Health 15 and our hold which is our 15. so that's the amount of space that we have to hold more cheese currently currently we have no cheese so it doesn't matter uh we're 50 500 in debt that's the default and we have 2 000 cash on hand um we are not going to visit the loan shark because going further into debt we have no cheese to manage otherwise it would ask me if I want to put it in the fridge in the docks and uh then do you wish to visit the bank nope because we have nothing in the bank all right so we can look at the area we're currently in the docks a lot of the world might be digital but things still gotta move the ports always busy and there's too much going on to ask too many questions that's kind of our base of operations over there on the right is our event history so once we are a little bit further into a run we can actually look at that and it'll tell you what has happened previously what we bought Etc um so uh we can't buy or sell anything here at the Docks so we are going to jet uh we're currently at the Docks we're going to jump over the worker pods ooh event two times the price okay so prices are higher here uh keep fun do doing till it's done done done uh Emma's gone to the Putt and prices are hot okay so um prices are higher than normal um I mean ricotta is not that expensive we'll we'll jet again we're gonna jump over to sled field that's much better all right all right all right so so we're gonna we're gonna buy ourselves some ricotta by hitting B and then R and uh we can afford 100 ricotta because we do have two thousand I'm going to buy 95. ricotta uh just in case something bad happens and I have to throw some money at a at a Mugger or something um so we just bought at 20.
uh we're gonna sell at 30. um sorry we're gonna sell ricotta so r at 30. or rather we're going to sell the the 95 I think and then I think with that we're gonna buy cheddar because cheddar is currently on sale although we have lost money apparently um because oh right yeah because I owe money uh we're going to buy some cheddar I'm just gonna buy the 26 cheddar uh bye cheddar 26.
dump us up okay uh we're gonna jet again so we just bought that at was it 130 I think killbots are after well that's not good we're gonna just try and run because I don't have any Bots yet we did take one damage two times price excellent so we can uh oh well unload any ricotta well I don't have any ricotta that's fine we're gonna make a profit on our cheddar anyway so we're gonna sell uh cheddar C and we're going to sell all 26 of it there we go we've made profits we're actually getting somewhere um do I want to buy anything here uh we could take a bit of a risk we're going to buy enough I I'm just gonna call them by the letters because I don't actually know how to pronounce that type of cheese I'm going to be completely honest with you chat's gonna get more comment section is gonna get mad at me tell me how I'm pronouncing these wrong that's fine um so what will I buy e I'm going to buy let's buy eight uh so that leaves us with 1515 Bank uh we're gonna jet we're going to jump back to the docs real quick there is an event Happening Here a containers come in from offshore and they brought Brie and her body get them all they're cheap question is how much are they um no no I would not like to visit the bank holy that's cheap all right well we're gonna buy some havarti um buy Harrod havarti um we can also make some money back on our e so we're going to sell e and we're gonna sell eight we're going to buy ing and we're going to buy 18 havarti uh yeah we're gonna jet so we just bought that at what 400. um let's go to Suburbia so if we look at Suburbia full of gated communities the truth is those wolves keep more in more Psychopaths than they keep out plenty of freaks in this den of normality all right see look at that profit we can make on that right it's actually not a very good price for her body I think I'm going to um buy some ricotta because that's not a bad price for ricotta just five um and we're going to jump to the shiny yeah see that's that's much better 3600 a piece I like all right um let's look high-end downtown full of towering shining skyscrapers that give it its name we are going to sell everything I think make a make a little bit of um profit off with a tiny bit of ricotta I have which is not much but um and then we're gonna sell the uh her body for all all 18. all right so now that we've made that lucky sale we're gonna jump back to the docks we're going to visit the loan shark and we're going to repay one one seven eight seven and uh we're no longer in debt um the next thing that we're going to do is we're going to visit the bank and I'm just going to deposit like 40 000. okay um let's get out of the bank see what they have Cheddar's a decent price make some money on that let's buy some cheddar um let's just buy 80 whoops no no no no no 80.
I can't type eat each other um and uh so it's 120 we're gonna jet let's jump up to slagville one kill boss is after us is oh no that's not good can I just shout out the pixel or not the ASCII art of these kill Bots they look rad they kind of remind me of um uh what's it called Cog mind a little bit they look just they just look awesome um well we're gonna try and run you failed to run we took one damage took another damage police missed take another day oh come on man that is the most damage I've taken at one of those before uh slagville event the scavs have just picked a runner's husk clean uh they don't know how to deal they've got 10 E for 3600. that seems like a good deal just afford it I mean we can make a profit right here quick profit yeah sure um well um you know what no I'm not gonna sell that but I will sell hmm actually I'm not gonna buy anything here because there's not very many there's no good prices here uh the industrial Zone has a thriving ecosystem of alternate living societies and rejects live here on the heaping piles of waste and garbage all right so we do have 10 hold we're gonna jet let's um let's go back to Suburbia oh event five times price crazy Jimmy's just put up put up a recipe for the ultimate grilled cheese her body prices are insane to pay we don't have any her body I could wow that's a lot of money um damn damn so every single time we're moving the turned taker up in the top left is going up when that hit third when that hits 30 the game ends man I just want to make some money here one kill Bots is after me we're gonna run okay well at least we made it away after two two times the price on something cheddar heads are getting their nachos on excellent so you can get a Primo deal if you've got the shred we got the shred and they can have our ched um I don't know what that means but I'm gonna sell it so buy our cheddar um we're gonna sell 80 cheddar not a bad set of profits there uh we can also sell our e for a much better profit than we bought them for um doubled our money actually I think on that ricotta is real cheap her body is actually a pretty good deal here it's actually not we're gonna buy some her body we're gonna try and get into better more profitable sales shall we say we can afford 30 we're gonna buy 20. um I'm gonna try and buy I'm gonna buy two Bree so we now have two Brie in our inventory so if I were to like kind of criticize anything about this aside from the fact that this game's a vibe the balancing on it seems kind of easy I'd really like to see some difficulty modifiers you could unlock maybe harder events more frequent events things like that [Music] our body is the same price but I could sell the breed a profit I'm going I'm going to yeah we're gonna sell our Brie uh both of them both pieces of Brie um havarti is the price that we just bought it for so let's go back to Suburbia I've already got cheaper uh I could buy ricotta get a lot of ricotta um I'm gonna buy some ricotta because that's not bad let's just do seven five I see um normal jet again two kilowatts after us this is not good the game also hasn't given me the opportunity to buy a drone just yet which is how you fight back against those [Music] um that's a bad price on ricotta uh I mean I can make my money back on her body so let's do that um sell our body uh all 20. I only made like 80 thou so there's that um I also kind of wish that there was locations you could go to specifically to like get meds or something because like finding a medic is a random event right um I would really like there to be like a hospital maybe I could take a turn and spend some money to get patched up you know um Cheddar's really cheap so we're gonna buy some cheddar all 20 yeah all 25 I get them yeah I guess we're gonna buy 25 because that's all I can carry um we're gonna jet I'm gonna sell the cheddar I'm also gonna sell the ricotta okay um see sell the cheddar for 25. and we are going to sell the ricotta for 75. Perfect Look at that uh let's jump
back over the docks we found something a new her body maker wants to get in and they gave you four for free a taste of what they can do oh yeah I'll take free money uh no I don't want to visit the loan shark uh I would not like to transfer trees to my fridge I would however like to go to the bank and deposit uh 50 Grand all right so we do have a good number of turns left Ricotta's cheap cheddar is Affordable uh we just got some free harvati I think that we're gonna buy some cheddar or I you know I think we're just gonna do like 80 cheddar and then we're going to buy Brie we're gonna buy two um so it's not the worst price and I've seen it above 10 000 pretty consistently so I think we're gonna do that and we're gonna go back to the shiny well I mean we can make money on our cheddar but not much else let's go back to Suburbia will sell the Brie both the pieces that I had unless I see oh her bodies are actually a pretty good deal we're gonna buy her body here um I could buy 16. that's by 15. um we're gonna jet once again event recipe Heights Event someone's looking for a promotion if you've got five cheddar they'll pay 960.
